For one week, I’ve gotten in the pool each day to kick. Tuesday I went back to the Y for the first time in months and lap swam.
Why did I stop with the lap swimming? Mostly it was the weather. Summer in the Arizona desert is cloudy with daily thunderstorms and lightening. Not ideal outdoor swimming weather.
If it’s not storming it’s brilliant intense sunshine which I tend to avoid. Before I knew it, I was out of the lap swimming habit.
I’ve been following “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron for years. At least most of her routine of morning pages, prayer and daily walks. The thing I’ve been missing is the “artist’s date.”
My excuse before was COVID shutdowns.
Now I have no excuse. The artist date is to go out — alone — and experience something to feed your muse. Cameron’s suggestions are looking in antique and fabric stores, go anywhere that will fill your senses and spark your creativity.
I’m going to try a once-a-week date with myself. I’ve added two days of lap swimming, and three days of kicking — now an artist’s date. I think that’s quite enough for now!
What is your morning or daily routine? What would you like to add to it?
I wake up and read my faith -based books before starting my day.
That sounds like a positive way to start your day.
I used to take a walk early morning. I’ll start again as soon as my foot permits
I love my morning walks. I hope you can return to them soon.
I hope it’s sooner.
👍🏼
Yes, I think it’s up to me now to do as much as I easily can.
The view beyond that pool?? I could get used to that. ❤️
It’s gorgeous. When you swim and breathe to the side you get that view!
I love the idea of taking yourself on creative dates. There is so much out there to inspire you. Also, taking a camera along on walks can help you better notice things.
I agree! I have my phone/camera on all my walks. Friday I’m going to some art galleries,
Hmmm…water, meditate, journal, exercise, shower, blog, walk dog… didn’t add anything to morning, but I’ve made sure I allocate two hours for writing. I’m also doing restorative yoga every other week, and I added monthly 30 minute back massage…so far so good
The back massage sounds like something I could use! Our mornings are similar except I walk with a husband instead of a dog.
😉do the massage
I have a crink in my shoulder after my first day of swimming. A massage would help!
Go for it!
Wow that’s great. I’ve started a lot of journaling these days and just writing down my thoughts. My therapist suggested I start journaling and I have been enjoying it very much.
If you haven’t read The Artist’s Way, I recommend it.
I’ll keep the name in mind.
I’m trying to establish a morning routine involving exercise. I’ve gone on dates with myself and I didn’t enjoy them. I got bored.
