I recently wrote about a weird thing that happened with Facebook. Somebody commented on a five-year old photo of Waffles needing emergency surgery. Then the post got more comments and my 94-year-old dad even called to find out if Waffles was okay. I couldn’t figure out why that old post was making the rounds, because it didn’t come up as a memory to me and I didn’t share it with anyone.
I wrote about that HERE.
Well, wouldn’t you know it! Waffles had emergency surgery yesterday! My daughter wondered if there was a connection to the FB post and Waffles back in ER. Was there something with the vibes or was he jinxed because of that post?
He got sick shortly after that and wouldn’t eat and if he drank water it came right back up. My daughter had a sleepless week but through subcutaneous fluids and several trips to the ER, Waffles’ tummy finally settled down. During this process the vet took an X-ray to make sure there wasn’t a blockage.

The X-ray revealed his bladder was filled with stones that could be life threatening. I was worried about a 10-year-old pug going through anesthesia and surgery. They don’t have the best noses for breathing and are at risk with anesthesia. But as the parent of a 30-year-old, I didn’t have any say so or monetary involvement.
Waffles is home today with my daughter in the Bay Area post surgery and it all went well.
Here are two more Utah Swim Team photos of Waffles:

A Fun Waffles Tale:
When our daughter graduated college, her first job was in Scottsdale, Arizona and she lived in Tempe. I was visiting her and Waffles (from Palm Springs where we lived then) and we took a walk across the Tempe Town Lake pedestrian bridge. We were halfway across when a woman we had never met stopped us and asked, “Is that Waffles?” We were stunned! It turned out the woman was married to a Utah swim coach who took a job with ASU’s swim team and is now the head coach. She definitely was familiar with Waffles!
Do you have a favorite of these Waffles photos? If so, which one?
Do you think it’s a weird coincidence with the old FB post showing up and Waffles having surgery again?

Every time I read about this dog, I get hungry for waffles. Just coincidence, I’m sure.
Ha! 😅
Aw! I’m glad Waffles is okay and he’s sooo cute! And famous! ❤️🥰
I’m relieved Waffles is okay too. I was against the surgery. Yes, he’s a star.
Love the lifeguard photo. Waffles looks so intent there. The only thing missing is the lifeguard whistle tucked into the corner of his mouth! Glad to read that he is okay after surgery. It is an odd coincidence though, with that very old FB post popping up.
The lifeguard photo is my favorite one, too. Yes, it was strange that Waffles had to have surgery after the old FB popped up.
Poor Waffles. Glad he came sailing through his surgery smoothly.
Love that he was famous enough to be recognized.
💕
That was such a surprise to have Waffles recognized in public. After that, my daughter made play dates with the coach’s wife and their dog.
Waffles is so cute! I’m glad surgery went smoothly.
What a relief on the surgery. He’s a cutie pie.
I do think it is a weird coincidence. We are so lucky with Iago as he is almost 17 and suffers from arthritis but still has a healthy appetite. I think Rasputin keeps him young! They loved them both the other day at the groomers! I believe I came to Tampa Bay area to meet my husband and the pugs!
It was an odd coincidence. I hope Waffles makes it to 17! My daughter is thinking about getting another pug. She went to a pug rescue event and found one that she almost adopted. She thought about her finances first, though. And then Waffles got sick and she’s had to pay thousands.
Yes, we did get lucky with the younger pug and found him through social media at a good buy. He was only available because someone did not pick him up. We have been lucky with the first pug. They are special!
We got Waffles at a good price, too. The mom was registered but not the dad. It was also their last puppy in the litter. The family owned both mom and dad dogs so we got to see them.
Yes, this couple and their children lived on a lake near Lake Alfred and it was small and they had a Doberman and other dogs. They were starting their own business, haircutting and I have a feeling the litter was unexpected. We did meet the mom pug and they just wanted the pugs to go to a good home.
That’s great!
So very glad Waffles is okay! That is eerie about the Facebook post showing up & then a real emergency following it. Every picture of Waffles is my favorite!💞
Eerie is a good word for it! Yes, Waffles is very photogenic 😉
Oh my….I’m so glad to hear Waffles is doing well! The photo of him wearing his “doggles” made my afternoon! Thanks so much for sharing. I’m with Lori…any Waffles pic is gonna be a fave. xo! 💝😊💝
The caption with the pupside down goggles was cute, too. I used to visit that site all the time, but haven’t seen it lately. Waffles is a fun subject for photos.
He sure is! 😎❤️😎
☺️
Not a fun coincidence about the surgery. Waffle’s photos always show him with the same harness, so I’d guess that would help with recognition.
Good point. That harness was also in the Utes colors.
Oh no – that’s a weird coincidence! I’m so glad Waffles is through surgery. Those are great pictures! Love the dog guard one! Sending my best to Waffles — and all of you since we’ve got a lot of surgery going on!
Thank you. I’m so relieved Waffles is doing well and I hope he has another ten years. I like the lifeguard photo too,
Aww on Waffles! So glad he is OK!
He looks cute in all those photos, no wonder he was the mascot. Love it!
I’m sure Waffles loved all the attention!
I’m so glad that Waffle is fine. It sure is a strange coincidence.
It was strange, wasn’t it?
Very strange. A premonition via facebook!!!
Yes. I never made the connection on my own, but my daughter brought it up to me.
Very intriguing coincidence
