I’m not on Facebook that often. I used to be on it every day while my kids were growing up. But now I don’t think of it that often. I post my wildlife photos on Instagram and they automatically get posted to FB.
Anywho. I was surprised when my daughter texted me and asked why I had posted something about her pug Waffles on FB. I told her I didn’t. She said the post was getting comments including from my sister-in-law, moms from my kids’ grade school that I haven’t talked to since then. It was getting likes, hearts and hugs.
Next I got a phone call from my dad asking what in the heck was going on with Waffles.
“Nothing,” I said. “He turned 10 years old in August.”
My dad explained that he had seen a Facebook post and that Waffles was having emergency surgery.

Somehow this memory from 2021 was showing up in people’s feeds. I looked at my Facebook page and it wasn’t there.
Five years ago, Waffles had eaten a chunk of wood from a planter and it lodged in his small intestine. He had to have emergency surgery but is fine now except for getting older.

When Waffles was a pup.
Are you on Facebook and have you had an old memory pop up that people thought was current and commented on? If so, what was the post about?
How often do you use Facebook compared to years ago?

That’s rather odd isn’t it? I have never used FB and never will as I have heard so many bad things happening to people through their own fault. I’m surprised that platform is still going. Waffles should eat waffles, not wood. 😂❤️😍
That’s great you stayed off of FB. And yes, waffles would be better than chunks of wood for Waffles. 😉
Glad to know the answer is that Waffles is fine and this is old news! I dropped FB many, many years ago. It was a thing when the kids were in school, parent info and such but after about 8th grade I never used it and deleted my account. I don’t do any form of social media. Just not a fan.
Yes, it s good news that Waffles is healthy. Good for you for dropping FB and social media.
Pugs are so reassuring! Glad Waffles is fine. Yes, some social media can be helpful and some you take with a grain of salt. Rasputin believes he needs to do my PT with me each morning and then sniffs my hair. Funny!
Pug’s are the best! Waffles is such a character. Good luck with PT.
I think some of Facebook can be helpful as with chats about hip surgery, teachers in a district, retirement but I try to look at it as entertainment. Sometimes you get good information! Next on to the orthopedic surgeon, first outpatient visit.
Good luck on your first visit with your doctor!
How bizarre! You would think “the algorithm” would know better than to post negative/scary memories. I deleted my Facebook 13 years ago, so I’m totally out of the loop on how it works nowadays.
I don’t look at Facebook for months on end. I could delete it and not miss it. You’re right. It is odd that post showed up in other people’s feeds. And that people didn’t look at the date of the post, too.
I don’t check FB much anymore but sometimes memories do pop up like that but it should show on your feed not on others. That’s very odd.
It was odd that I couldn’t see what everyone else saw.
Definitely odd, memories are usually supposed to be on your page.
Maybe it wasn’t a a memory but someone saw it from years ago through scrolling?
Yeah, that could be it and if they interacted with it that could lead to FB putting it on everyone’s feed again.
Yes, I think that’s what happened.
Wow – how weird! Love that picture of Waffles and your daughter snuggling! Thanks goodness he’s fine — now and then!
Thanks! It was funny to have so many people concerned. I had no clue what my dad was talking about when he called. I like the photo of the snuggles, too.
Ah, Snuggles has a big fan club!!
😊
Must be perplexing to your family and friends. I haven’t had this happen to me. If a memory pops up, FB asks permission to share which I often deny.
Yes, that has been my experience, too. There are times I may share the photo again, but it’s rare.
Same here
I didn’t share it. It must have popped up on someone else’s timeline or they were scrolling and clicked on it and commented.
Yes, that’s what happened, probably.
I am glad Waffles made it through the surgery back then. Weird about it showing up on FB, for yes, I have had memories pop up from years ago, but I need to click on it to share it with everyone. Otherwise, only I can see it.
I don’t post near as much as I used too but I stalk. LOL! I like keeping up with my neices and nephews. My sisters and I communicate through FB messenger a lot, for my one sister doesn’t really text. I also have book groups on FB that I enjoy.
I’m thinking someone was scrolling on FB and clicked and commented on the post. Then people started seeing it. I didn’t see it until my daughter asked me about it and sent me a screen shot. Very strange. Yes, I look at FB to see what others are up to. But way less than when I was constantly posting about my kids when they were young.
Oh my goodness….how wacky – and scary – for folks to see this pop up! I know just enough about FB to post updates about books and promo stuff…but steer clear other than that. So many odd things happening randomly. Not necessarily harmful but weird! 😟
It was weird. Especially getting texts and phone calls, like from my 94-year-old dad all upset!
Yes! So unnecessary and confusing!
🤪❤️🤪
Just an odd thing to happen. Makes me thankful I’m not on Facebook much!
Yes!!!😉❤️😉
😍
I love that picture of your daughter and Waffles.
I left Facebook six years ago, and honestly, I don’t miss it at all.
Thanks! Yes, I love that photo, too. I could leave FB and not miss it either.
So glad Waffles is okay! I was told to maintain a Facebook page as a writer, but I am not very good at it. I do however find that I see friend and family posts and pictures on FB once in a while that help me stay connected, so that’s a positive. It seems to be mostly ads these days?
I do like getting caught up with family and friends I don’t see very often. I haven’t noticed ads. Maybe because I rarely go on it.
I almost forget FB still exists but unfortunately it’s not so easy to get people to migrate away from WhatsApp (e.g., using Signal instead

Open source platforms are preferable to supporting megalomaniacs!

Adorable! I closed my Facebook account years ago, but my Mac has a similar feature, and it’s nice to see old photos popping up from time to time.
I do see memories popping up on my iphone, too. I’ve only owned Macs since the early 1990s. A neighbor asked me for help on his PC and I told him I couldn’t help!
Same here. Macs since 2002. PCs are a pain.
I tried to help my neighbor, but I told him I had a lack of knowledge of PCs. I couldn’t figure out his issue. But I helped another neighbor with her first Mac and showed her how to use it.
Very nice! I’m sure she was happy.
Yes, she was grateful. Plus I left her a list of keyboard shortcuts.
Cool! They are useful.
It was fun to introduce my neighbor to a Mac. When I worked in PR in the late 1980s, we got our first Macs at work. Our company enrolled our department with a year-long Mac Class in Orange County, CA. I took every Mac class offered for all the software back then. It was so helpful.
Oh, wow, you’re a Mac superfan. I have a Mac mini and a MacBook, and I love them.
I’ve been through many Macs and bought stock decades ago.
They are excellent computers that last a long time.
Yes, except for the Mac Book Air. I’ve gone through two rapidly because they’d overheat. The Mac Book Pro is better. We have a desktop that’s ancient from when my son was in high school. He’s 33 now.
I considered a MacBook Air, but after reading the specs, I went with the regular MacBook. I didn’t see the value in getting the Air. I guess that was a good decision. We also have iPads, iPhones, and an Apple TV, so we’re big Apple fans.
You made a good choice avoiding the MacBook Air. I went through two and my son warned me not to buy another one! I liked them but they didn’t last. Yes, we’ve got all the Apple stuff you have too. My only regret was not buying more Apple stock in the 1990s.
Yeah, you probably missed out on a few million dollars.
I did the numbers. $38 million. I asked my husband to invest and he did a few hundred dollars instead of the thousands I asked for. At the time, people didn’t know if Apple would survive. He thought it was too risky. And we didn’t have the ability to survive that risk.
Wow, that’s a big number! But since we don’t know what the future holds, your decision at that time was probably the right one.
Absolutely! My husband is a financial advisor and we were just starting out then.
Sometimes we are not in the best position to take risks. I know some people who get into debt chasing fortunes, and they end up in a really bad place. It’s better to take the safe route.
Having clients being able to sleep at night is one of my husband’s standards when making investment decisions for them.
He’s a good advisor then.
I agree! That’s why he has three generations of families with him. Not that I’m prejudiced😊
Awesome!

Sounds like your FB algorithm wanted you to get back into it. HA!
I’ve not had that happen to me, yet. I check it usually once a day, or less lately. I used to go on every single day to catch up with my friends, but the allure has dulled over the years. Sweet Waffles!!
