Birds and More Birds

What are your plans for the weekend? Can you believe we’re almost through the month of February?

  1. Pigeons are really pretty with those iridescent feathers aren’t they? I had a flock show up for a bit not long before I left WA. Had never seen any there in 8 years then there they were. It was odd. Enjoy your time with daughter. It’s great that she can get a reliable, well cared for car and I love that she asked you for the Carfax report LOL 🙂

    • I never saw a pigeon before in our yard. The beautiful colors stood out among the Mourning Doves and Quail. I didn’t run the Carfax report. She can do that if she wants to! The car is 10 years old and in great shape with less than 50,000 miles. We got it checked out last week and there were no issues. I sure hope it stays that way!

  2. They do have some distinct coloring. Those pigeons might belong to someone, who let them loose for some exercise. They have a way of returning home to their keeper.

I hope the car you’re giving to your daughter will be able to pass California’s strict emission standards, or she might have to pay for some expensive modifications.

    • I really thought the pigeons were some exotic species with their beautiful coloring. The car is registered in Arizona. Maybe she should keep it that way! Although, we did buy it in California and had it there for years.

  3. The exotic pigeon! 🤣 But it’s true that there are surprisingly few pigeons around.

Have an absolutely wonderful time with your daughter!!

  4. I hope your daughter will wait until there is good news about the passes, Elizabeth. Yay for buying your car, not a used from who knows who. The pigeons are Rock Pigeons and are a problem here. I see a Mourning Dove too, they gather on my fence every eve at dusk to drink from the birdbath then they disappear for the night. ❤️

    • My daughter will wait until the passes are clear. Especially after not driving a car for two years! There’s no point to push it. So that’s the Rock Pigeons you’ve talked about. They are beautiful, but that one day is the only time I’ve seen them. The Mourning Doves are here in force.

  5. That is good that you are able to see your daughter and sell her your car. That is a plus for both of you. This has been a busy week for me. I am looking for a little relaxation and finishing some more line editing for my publisher. I’m not sure how many of us can survive for long without a license or a car to drive unless you are near good transit or working at home or retired.

    • That’s great that you’re doing some line editing. My daughter and son live on in an area with lots of rapid transit like BART and buses. She’s been taking the bus to work at UC Berkeley. It’s only two miles from her apartment. The hard thing is she has to use a laundry mat and bringing groceries home is a pain. Also, in the summer she wants to get to the ocean and swim. There’s lots of things you realize is more difficult without a car.

      • I understand. When I returned from teaching in South Korea, I needed to find a car. The area I stayed in temporarily had lots of retired people, Lower Alabama, so I was able to find a great car for my move to Florida. I can still remember my mom and I car shopping at lots together. A little funny but it was my dad who ultimately found the car through a friend of a friend. A car definitely brings more independence.

  6. Pigeons are really beautiful birds with their shiny plumage. But they do make a lot of mess. I love all the pictures. Have a wonderful time with your daughter. ♥️♥️♥️

      • You’re welcome. Kids coming to visit is such a happy occasion. We have so many pigeons here and I love their feathers shining in the sun, in so many shades of rainbow. But it’s good that they have moved on.

  7. Car prices have exploded. Wise of her to buy from you. If nothing else, she knows the car’s history. And yes, Red’s color really stands out today. Wow. He always stands out, but seems to be an even darker reddish. Gotta be noticed that guy. Ha, ha.

    • The sparrows looked like they were having so much fun. But it was in the low 40s! I don’t know how they managed to jump in! Yes, it’s great to have my daughter home for a short visit.

  8. As gorgeous as pigeons are with their pretty feathers, it’s actually a blessing they didn’t stay — their poo is toxic and large groups of them can do real harm to your roof

  9. Have fun with your daughter today! Getting a car from you is probably the best bet. Carfax LOL!

My niece is coming for a week on Tuesday. We’ll spend a couple days in Santa Fe. I’m looking forward to a change in scenery—haven’t been out of town since September!

My ski pass is only good for weekdays and we just got the best snow of the season. So I’m playing hooky on Monday!

    Great bird photos!

  10. February is flying by!
I’m giggling at your exotic pigeon. But yes, the colors are striking!

Well, I’m a few days behind (always). I hope you had a lovely visit and that your daughter made it home safely; surely Waffles was miffed about missing the trip to Grandma’s house. 🤪 Well, maybe he didn’t know what was happening, unless he reads your blog.
