I was surprised to get an email Tuesday that I needed to submit my Sea Glass Work In Progress for Thursday night’s photography class. After traveling to Northern California to help my kids, I hadn’t had a thought about photography in more than 10 days. Before I left town, I sent a few photos to my professor that I took with my Macro lens and asked him for suggestions. He pointed out that I needed to adjust a setting for “exposure compensation” to zero. It was set at -.7 and my photos were too dark.
So, Tuesday and Wednesday with my camera adjusted, I set out to take more sea glass photos. I also looked through my scanned images of kids and beach photos. Finally I settled on some and sent in my WIP. As I’m writing this, I haven’t had my Thursday night class yet, so I’m not sure what my feedback from the professor and students will be. It’s more than a little nerve wracking.
Here are photos I’ve taken this week since coming home:

Bougainvillea blossom from a new plant. The last plant was eaten at the roots by a raccoon, skunk or javelina.

A house sparrow at the bird bath. The little birds like the bird bath, rarely do the bigger birds use it.

Someone in Laguna decorated this city structure with shells and sea glass. This was an old photo I scanned from our summers in Laguna Beach.

Another sea glass photo from this week.

I identified this pretty shrub with blue flowers as “Imperial Blue.”

Red on his flamingo buddy.

Mrs. gets a turn.
Three more photos of Red, just because:

Happy Friday and weekend!
Which photos do you like best?
What plans do you have for Saturday and Sunday?

I give you an A plus! It’s a beautiful shot.
That’s so nice! Thank you!
It’s always lovely to see Red & Mrs. At least this submission was more of a check in vs. missing the entire assignment. I like that display you saw of the glass and shells from your archive.
I got an email from the professor yesterday that he didn’t get any of my photos. Only my text overview of what I was working on. I’m so glad he let me know so I could resubmit photos. It’s so nice to have Red and Mrs. home and to know they haven’t left.
It may not be the best photo, but I love seeing your quails so that gets my vote.
😊
I liked Red’s response to them. He was overwhelmed at them taking over the bird seed block.
I vote for the sea glass photo, because it’s so colorful.
That is so good to hear. I was worried at the response to my sea glass photos. My professor said last night in class that he thinks they are much better than my earlier attempts and I’m on the right path. Whew!
The imperial blue flower! OMG- so pretty!
It is so pretty! It’s on the side of our driveway. It was a surprise to see it in bloom.
Ooh, I love the backlit bougainvillea blossom best, but the photos are all wonderful! I hope you got some great feedback from your professor and classmates.
Thanks! I thought that was so pretty too. It’s a new plant with only a few blossoms. We had to put chicken wire around it to protect it from animals!
I hope the class went well! I liked the sea glass photos, Red and Mrs on the flamingo, and Red looking at the covey of quail. All of the images are excellent.
The class was good. I had feedback from the professor including how to use Photoshop to improve my scanned photos from 20 years ago. He said my sea glass photos have improved and I’m on the right track. Whew! Good feedback.
Love these pictures. The last one is awesome.
I was so excited to get that one. Red was trying to scare of the sparrow.
A full action photo
Yes. I don’t know what I’ve captured until I download the photo to my laptop. Most of the time, it’s an empty scene because I’m late snapping the photo.
Yes, with a camera, there is a wait while a phone gives instant results but they aren’t as good.
That’s so true!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I like the first bird on the flamingo. The red stood out to me, and how the bird was perched. Just interesting angle. Let’s see, today we are doing the traditional corn maze, and tomorrow seeing movie Blue Moon
Red had a bunch of poses for me on the flamingo. Also, I’m going to Blue Moon with a small group of women tomorrow. It has great reviews.
I’m very excited to see it
Me too! Plus we’re having lunch first at my favorite restaurant.
Yay!
👍🏼
Sea glass for a photo was a fun idea. Great photos.
Thanks! I’m going to try more ideas with sea glass. I have until the first week of December to turn in my assignment.
It’s hard to choose a favorite b/c they’re all gorgeous. But the middle sea glass photo is stunning. 🤩
Thanks! My professor said I was on the right track and improving from the first sea glass photos he saw. Now I need to figure out more creative ways to take photos of sea glass.
It’s hard to pick a favorite because they are all so good! The sea glass, the bougainvillea, and every picture ever of Red. The last one reminded me of dancing- like 💃!
Thanks so much for your encouraging words! Red was in a battle with that sparrow, trying to chase him off in the last photo.
I can never pick a favorite photo! They’re all lovely….but the sea glass always grabs my attention.
We have Plumbago all over, and I’ve never heard of it being called Imperial Blue, but after checking, they are one in the same.
Thank you! I saw both names when I was looking at images for blue flowering plants. But Imperial Blue was easier for me to remember!
I really like the bouganvillea photo and the imperial blue one. I think you arranged the beautiful sea glass perfectly.
Love the last photo of Mr Red. 💕
Thanks so much for your positive and encouraging comment! 😊
Very welcome! I really enjoyed the photos. I hope you get a good grade.
Ha! I’m now in the advanced workshop straight out of my intro class. No grades and it’s a way of life. There are five people in the group besides me who have taken it every semester from 3 to 10 years! I’m the newbie and nervous.
Wow! Good for you! I am sure you will do fine!
They are a cohesive group and amazing photographers. The professor is very supportive and sends me emails once in awhile to see if I have questions or need help. I am going ahead and registering this week for my second semester!
Great! Wonderful to have a supportive professor.
It’s so good! I’m intimidated by the other students, and everyone is to quiet..I guess I’ll get to know them through the years.
