I was so excited to capture this photo of Red taking off the Ocotillo!
I’m going to the Bay Area to take care of my daughter post shoulder surgery. She has a repetitive use injury from swimming from kindergarten through college. Her practices in college added up to 12,000 yards of swimming per day.
I’ve been especially nervous and haven’t been sleeping well. There’s a back story to that, besides the anxiety and worry. (Ever since our last thunder and lightning storm our house alarm has been going of at 3 a.m. Now that I figured out how to get it to stop, my body is programmed to get up at 3 a.m.) Once awake, I worry about my upcoming trip and my daughter.

I had an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon to take a last look at my ankle. I discussed my other foot with the doctor. My first visit to her was about the left foot, but she discovered my “sprain” was a break in the right ankle — and I was scheduled for emergency surgery.
Now we’re back to the original issue and I’ll have surgery after taking care of my daughter!
Here are more photos from my backyard buddies:

Gila woodpecker taking a turn on a flamingo.

I learned my chipmunks are really Harris Antelope Squirrels! Who knew?

Red’s turn on the flamingo.

The Beavertail sculpture is another favorite perch for Mrs.

This father quail keeps watch over his flock from the tree.

I’m afraid I’m at that age where my future will be lots of doctor visits. Hopefully no more surgeries.
Which photos do you like?
How is your week going?

I’m so sorry to hear about all the injuries and surgeries. I hope you and your daughter both heal up nicely.
The shot of Red in flight is great! The squirrel looks like he’s begging for treat, which is pretty cute, too.
Thank you for your kind words. I’m more worried about my daughter than myself!
I was so surprised to see that photo of Red in flight. I get many more where there is just a wing or a tail. The squirrel is such a character.
Oh I hope your daughter’s surgery goes well and she recovers quickly. I’ve had so many surgeries but my point of view is that I’m grateful that I’m living in an era where these issues can be treated by surgery and we don’t have to tolerate the pain! I hope that you don’t need another surgery after this. Hugs
Thank you! I appreciate your encouraging words on my daughter’s surgery and that after my next one, I’m done!
Amen.
🙏
Sorry that you have to deal with health issues EA, your daughters and now again your own. I absolutely love that you captured the quail in the tree and Red in flight 🙂
I’m getting a little tired of the surgery drama. I’ve been up to Berkeley to take care of my son two times for surgery in the last couple years. I told my husband yesterday that I’m going to plan a trip to visit them without any surgeries involved! I remember you took care of your daughter, too.
I’m glad you enjoyed the photos! I am enjoying taking a bunch of photos, viewing them on my laptop and getting some nice surprises!
Oh, I’m sorry about the new surgery, Elizabeth! I hope your daughter’s surgery and recovery goes well.
The pictures are stunning. Love the one of Red ignoring the flamingo.
I was going to put off my surgery until the new year. After discussing it with my orthopedic surgeon, she is going to do a procedure that is much simpler than originally planned. So, I decided to move it up and get it over with!
Thanks for your comments on my photos. I’m having so much fun with my backyard buddies.
Wonderful photos Elizabeth. The lighting on some is so good. I like the Quail and your attentive little squirrel
Thanks! I appreciate your opinion and love your photography.
😁
I love all the photos, and catching Red in flight is so fun! Get well wishes for both you and your daughter-and safe travels, too!
Thank you so much. It makes me smile to hear your kind words about my photos!
I hope all goes well with your daughter’s surgery. I understand why you’d worry- as mom’s, I feel like we always do. 💜
Definitely. I am a pro at worrying about my kids.
So am I. I think a lot of mommies are. 💜
💕
Fab photos! Safe travels…sending hugs to you and good wishes to your daughter!
Thank you for all the encouraging words!!! 🥰
Good luck to your daughter. And yes, we all need to know. When’s your photo exhibit? Red flying is amazing. And I would expect to see the chipmunk there too. He looks like he’s making a personal plea. Love them!
Thank you so much for the well wishes for my daughter. Plus the idea of a photo exhibit! My neighbor joined a local art league as a painter and got in her first juried show this summer. They had several photographers in the show. Joining may be in my future. The town is Carefree and is one mile away. It has tons of artists and art shows year-round.
That’s awesome! Bet those two shots draw lots of interest!
Wait a minute. I’m in the mulling it over, contemplating stage!
Awesome that you caught Mr Red in flight! Enjoyed your other pics too. LOL at Mrs Red giving the side eye.
Hope your daughter’s surgery goes fine and that the healing process isn’t too painful. How nice that you can be with her to help her out.
So sorry that you have to get another surgery. Hope it goes well and a quick recovery. I totally understand you wanting this to be your last surgery! I hope it is! You have been through a lot lately!
nice pic 👌
Thanks!
The father quail speaks to me. It’s got a moodiness I like. I’m taking two writing classes, one in person and one asynchronous. It’s an adjustment doing both. I can’t believe surgery! Take care!
Thanks! My daughter is in surgery right now….I’m worrying. I liked the background of that quail photo as well as the subject.
How do you do two writing classes at once? Do they have a different focus? How do you switch back and forth?
One is critique based and the other is practical advice to get you through your first draft. I love the in person draft class. It gives me motivation. I just started doing the work for the critique class. I really like the notes the teacher prepared, but it’s a lot. I’ll need to do a little every day
That sounds very inspiring, especially the in person draft class!
Here’s hoping!!
👍🏼
Good morning Elizabeth! Great photos…sorry to read about your daughter’s surgery and 3am wake ups let alone more surgery on the horizon for you…sending healing hugs your way for all…by the way, chipmunk is my fav…just such a cutie!
Thank you for all your kind words. My daughter is having her procedure right now, and my surgery was just scheduled for mid November. I’ll be happy when all of this is over. I’m glad you like my photos!
Please let us all know how it goes. I’ve got you all in my prayers xo
Thank you!
Oh my goodness. I hate this for you; another surgery after going through all the pain and recovery for the first one. So sorry.
Athletes, like your daughter do pay a price for all that wear and tear. I hope her surgery goes well and she recovers swiftly. She’s lucky to have you there, nursing her to better health.
Lolo played competitive softball from five to nineteen; she has injured labrums in her shoulder and hip, which will stay with her for her entire life. 🙁
All the photos are lovely, but that little Harris Antelope Squirrel is ADORABLE.
Thanks! Yes, it was my daughter’s swimming from age five through college that ruined her shoulder. She doesn’t think sprinters suffer as much as distance swimmers.
My first night at my son’s (my daughter is staying there so my son and DIL can watch her at night) my son ended up in ER at midnight with a hernia that now needs surgery. That’s number three in a number of weeks! We’re waiting to hear when is will be scheduled. Maybe I should just move in!
That little squirrel is a character! Glad you liked the photos.
Sorry to hear about your daughter’s softball injuries too!
Oh no, when it rains, it pours. I hope your son recovers quickly! Hey, at least they’re together, right?
Yes and I can help out at the same time. I just don’t know when my son’s surgery will be scheduled, yet.
