I caught my favorite model taking off in flight. That was exciting for me. Much more so than PT.
I’m going to a Physical Therapy place twice a week. In the beginning, I was fine with it. But by the time I’d get home, which is 20 minutes away, I started to hurt. I didn’t ice the first couple visits because the appointments were during my husband’s work hours and I didn’t want to take up more of his time (which he said didn’t matter.) Oh well.
Now my appointments are in the afternoon, and I’m asking for ice. It’s helping. But what I really miss is the Game Ready machine my physical therapist had back in the Palm Springs area. The Game Ready is a game changer!
My husband asked if they had one and they said they aren’t very common here as they are in California. What’s a Game Ready you ask? It’s an ice machine that pumps cold into a sleeve you wear and it also adds compression. It is amazing. I used one after I fell skiing and had my ACL replaced.

I had a bad experience Monday when my assigned PT guy wasn’t there. The PT works my ankles with massage and stretches. I got a sub who did just as fine. When the PT is done, I get passed off to an assistant to guide me through exercises. The day which wasn’t so great, I got passed off two times to assistants and landed with one who was working with five patients at once. Needless to say, I did a lot of sitting, trying to get attention, and not getting any corrections or anyone watching me.
Back at “home” in Palm Springs, my PT office was owned by two former collegiate athletes — swimmers and women — who watched me every moment. That’s my comparison.
And they invested the money to have a row of Game Ready ice machines. Oh yeah.

I was frustrated when I got home. I called two friends and asked about their PT, thinking I might need a change. I called the kids, as well. Anyway, before calling my surgeon to complain, I decided to keep my Wednesday afternoon appointment and go with an open mind. (She had said to let her know if there were any issues with PT). Maybe my Monday appointment was a one off and Wednesday would be fine.

We have two new families of baby quail visiting our yard. They have six babies each!
Fortunately, it was a good appointment. I got attention, corrections and wasn’t left alone. I believe it’s essential to face something with a good attitude and open mind. I could have gone to PT with a negative point of view and my outcome would most likely have been bad.
What are your thoughts about point of view, attitude and keeping an open mind?

I’m finding that I need to keep my worlds separate. By that, I mean I can’t crave the best of all worlds at once. It is a recipe for disappointment. For instance, I had a great house in Hawaii. The one I have now is much more cramped and has less storage space. In California, I had some favorite restaurants that I can’t seem to replace where I live now. But, now I have fresh clean air and forest creatures out my window. When I move from here, I won’t likely have a similar view. I can’t expect the best of all worlds in 1 place. Thankfully, I probably won’t have the worst of them all in 1 place either. I just need to keep things separate, be present and appreciative of the up and downsides of each and be thankful for the experiences. I don’t know if that resonates with you, but I found myself reminding myself as I read your post 😁. Thanks for that! I’m a work in progress.
You’re correct. I find the similar things in my life. I loved my Palm Springs 1930s Spanish home. It was so unique. Plus the restaurants that I can’t find here. But I love the nature around us, rather than living down town. I agree with keeping things separate and being present and appreciative for what I have now.
Glad your next appointment went better! And coming home to your beautiful feathered friends obviously helps. 💕 Nature always improves my outlook.
Thank you! I’m relieved it was a better appointment. Nature does so much for me, too!
A positive attitude can be great, except when you enter a den of con artists. So perhaps a neutral attitude is best, when you’re not sure what to expect.
And by gosh, you need a Game Ready machine, darnit!
I do need the Game Ready! My daughter was in disbelief that PT where I live doesn’t have them. Her college swim team had them for recovery after practice! You’re correct about a positive attitude not working in a den of thieves!
I’ve had great experiences with PT and less than good ones. When the therapist is attentive it worked for me, but when dude wandered off to chat with other people I didn’t do so well. Your good attitude paid off, but you have to wonder about the whole process.
The only time I had PT was the one- on-one experience in Palm Springs. It was amazing. This is more like a factory where a lot is up to me. If I can get attention and corrections I’ll make the most of it. When I talked to my kids, they have has similar experiences — the excellent one-on-one PT and the busier centers.
Glad for you that things got back to AZ normal at therapy EA. I think when anyone is injured and not able to do their personal normal things little twists and turns get magnified into really hard things to cope with. I’ve never had to use PT for anything but I think anyone can relate given we’ve all dealt with illness at least and just want life to be normal and functional. I’m trying really hard to embrace all the new that will be home in CO and not comparing before I even get there! My granddaughter was so sweet the other day. She sent a picture of PIke’s Peak, which I will be able to see in the distance from the new house, much like I have seen Mt Rainier for 65 years here. Her text with the pic was: “Pikes Peak! The Mt Rainier of Colorado”
That is so sweet of your grand daughter. You’ll be so thankful for a mountain view, although Mt. Rainier is pretty spectacular and hard to compare anything to. My PT experience makes me realize that it’s up to me to be diligent and speak out when I need help. I also have to follow up and do my exercise daily at home!
Adorable quail baby!
Sorry your therapist doesn’t have that ice machine. It is indeed a game changer and a big help in recovery.
Thanks! I looked at the Game Ready website and I could rent one with an Rx from my surgeon. I just don’t know if I’d still need it by the time it arrived! But it’s worth looking into.
Good attitude and an open mind does make a difference – love how you were able to reset and do it. Game ready sounds amazing! As are your photos – as always! Happy healing!
It could have turned out so much worse with me hunting for a therapist who might not exist! I had to stop my husband from expressing his negative thoughts too on the drive to PT. Wish I had a Game Ready. My daughter had one at Utah for after swim practice.
I saw a new general practitioner this week. Part of me really liked her. Part of me wondered if she was on drugs. I’m staying open minded and embracing the first part.
Oh boy! That’s interesting. We started with a new general practitioner a few months ago. I’m thrilled with her.
Oh, hang in there Elizabeth. PT stinks no matter what. Glad you’re keeping a positive attitude. I gotta admit, I would be a mess. Sending positive healing thoughts.
Thank you, Brian. I’m not loving PT in the center or at home. But I know how important it is! Right now I’m icing my leg after doing PT at home and reading how to get my own Game Ready at home!
First time I have heard of Game Ready. Interesting. My PT through the VA has been great. I do the exercised on my own. Now that I have a little extra time over the summer, I may return as she told my anytime, just stop by but I also use YouTube Videos to find videos of people exercising and strengthening the right hip. It works and the pug, little Razz is my best friend during the work out.
I was used to the PT post ski accident who led me through exercises during appointments. It was helpful to let me know if my body wasn’t in alignment or if was not doing them properly. Otherwise I might not be making progress. As for Game Ready, it’s an amazing machine. I think professional sports teams have them and most PT offices have them in So Cal. Plus my daughter’s swim team had them at her college.
I would have reacted similarly to you and given them a second chance but I would have been really frustrated that day. I hope the good sessions continue (the attention/corrections and being seen at PT)! By the way, fabulous photos!!!
Thank you for saying you enjoyed my photos! They are helping me with excitement through my recovery days. I couldn’t face finding a new therapy place to go. Especially after talking to local friends and their experiences weren’t much improved. Best thing
I could do was have a good attitude and give them a second chance.
Good attitude is worth its weight in gold and improving health! Happy for you that PT came through!
Thanks! Now it’s up to me to stay positive and keep up with the work at home.
I am glad PT went better for you but sorry about your other experience! That would certainly be frustrating! Good for you in keeping an open mind and trying again!
I have gone for physical therapy a few times. The most recent being my cardiac therapy. I am glad to say that each one was a positive experience. Very caring therapists that worked with me one on one. I can’t imagine it any other way! The game ready machine sounds great! I never had that.
You’re fortunate to have had great PT one-on-one experiences. That’s the way to do it. I’m wondering if it’s the population where I am. Phoenix area is more than six million. Plus it’s an elderly population and they are all in PT!
Always look.at all the angles. There’s never just one way to think about something
Exactly. After I talked to two friends who have had PT in our area, I discovered there experience was not one-on-one. It was no better than what I experienced on Monday. I could make a change and find myself no better off.
Wow! My pt was completely one on one. That’s wild
Mine was too. I am doing some research but haven’t found one so far.
That sucks
I expected so much more! But I have to make the most of what I have.
My experience with PT was good, the doctor ( physiotherapist) used to come to my house after my knee replacement.
That’s amazing!
It was a part of the package that we paid to the hospital. In those days ( 13 years ago ) we didn’t have health insurance so we paid out of our pocket. But it wasn’t very expensive.
Interesting!
Yes, our system is quite different but the cost of medical treatment and medication is quite low as compared to America or Europe.
That’s good. We pay so much for insurance and it doesn’t cover that much!
Yes, that was what my brother who lives in Seattle told me. He advised me not to get travelers insurance because it won’t cover anything much.
That’s so true. We never get traveler’s insurance. Some airlines let you cancel and hold onto credit for the entire flight. That way you can book a flight later on.
Indeed. 👍🏼
It’s important to consider different perspectives—there’s rarely only one way to view a situation.
That’s so true!
Hope you’re doing better now. Love those birdies
We are both feeling better. I’m so glad you enjoy my birds.
