Friday I went to see my surgeon and she removed my cast! YAY! Then she put me in a heavy duty boot and told me to use my walker and walk around the house and outside with 50% weight on my right leg. The other thing she said was I could take a shower beginning Sunday with no huge plastic sleeve topped with saran wrap on my leg. WOOHOO!
It’s the little things like semi-walking and taking a shower that are making my days!
Part of my morning routine, after coffee and writing three pages, is to venture outside. I sit for about 45 minutes to an hour watching and listening to my birds. I also listen to the Hallow app on my phone. I’m listening to a podcast on it called “Bible in a Year.” I’m on day 180. I find this to be a peaceful and helpful way to approach my day. I was so over being laid up last Thursday that I didn’t want to do anything. Getting outside plus listening to this app and my birds has helped me over the hump.
Here are a few sights from my backyard:

Here’s a honeysuckle I took with my iphone while sitting outside.

Here’s a selfie of me in my sundress and boot with my walker.

Aloe in bloom next to honeysuckle.

One lone blossom on top of a saguaro.
What little things or moments in your day make it special?

Honeysuckle! So pretty, so invasive here. Your boot is a cutie! Progress for you.
I didn’t know honeysuckle was invasive. We just have the one plant and I enjoy it. Yes, the boot looks so good with sundresses! Four more weeks and I’m in tennis shoes — another good look with dresses.
Around here it’s against the law to plant it, but people do. While other people spend their spare time going along the side of roads to pull it up. It’s controversial.
Wow! Who knew. We have two invasive plants that the fire department will drive around and tell us to get rid of. One is called globe chamomile or stinknet and the other is desert broom. They are fire hazards in the summer and can completely take over spaces.
You’ve got your own invasive plants to deal with. Maybe everywhere does?
That would make sense. I have to include invasive plants in my HOA newsletter a couple times a year to make people be aware.
Hmmm…walking my dog, reading, hot tea with milk and sugar, texting my friends
That all sounds wonderful! Today I am going to attempt to walk down my driveway and back with my walker before it gets hot. It’s a long driveway, so it will be the furthest I’ve walked since surgery.
You got this
Thank you! 😊
Flashbacks to my daughters boot days in your picture EA! Although she chose to use crutches vs a walker. I’m glad that you can be more mobile now and the shower thing…that’s a milestone to celebrate as well! I’m loving early morning walks since it’s been getting really hot here.
The surgery center had me try out crutches and a walker. My balance was much better with the walker. I don’t need another fall! Your daughter is much stronger and agile than me. I’m going to take a walk down my driveway and back in a few minute before it gets hot here, too!
Yay for the boot! Yay for a shower! I remember those days when Mike broke his leg — the smallest things feel like big wins.
Little things I love: the first few sips of morning coffee, how I feel after yoga, and hearing our birds in the yard every morning.
It is the small milestones after surgery that mean so much. I totally agree with the first sips of coffee and listening to the birds. Yoga will have to wait 😉
Cheers to giving the cast the boot…to get the boot. I’m not sure anyone’s ever looked cuter — your cheery yellow sundress is making me smile! 🌞💕🌞
Thanks for the cheery words! I’ve found my bright sundresses are the perfect wardrobe post surgery. Bright colors and comfort!
Beautiful blooms! And they all look so tropical and exotic to this New Englander.
Love the one lone blossom on top of the saguaro!
Congrats on your return to semi-walking! I love how you’ve managed to navigate this down time with such grace! Here’s to the next stage of recovery!
Thank you, Wynne. Sitting outside in the mornings allows be to notice all sorts of things, like that one saguaro blossom.
Oh no, I have to catch up to see why you’re in a boot!
It’s not the most exciting story, but thankfully, I’ll get through this in about another month.
Good news about the cast getting the boot 😁 My honeysuckle is flowering too. It is a invasive plant. I have to hack it back all the time. I don’t want to get rid of it altogether.
Thanks! It does feel good to be out of the cast. Our honeysuckle doesn’t have room to grow. It’s in a planter surrounded by patio.
Yes in a pot is best that way they can’t get away
👍🏼
What a relief it must be for you Elizabeth. Lovely pictures my friend
Thank you!
You’re very welcome 🫶🏼
😊
Yay Elizabeth! Keep healing! Love the toe polish color by the way and the photographs!
Thanks! I desperately need a pedicure, but that’s not happening for awhile. I own the color, so I can do a touch up.
Good for you! Owning the color is so helpful when you have a little nick in the polish! I hope you get a pedicure sooner rather than later!
Thanks. My husband suggested I get half off for only having one foot available!
LOL I like the way he thinks!
😊
Congrats on getting your cast off, and the photos are beautiful!
Thank you! First PT appointment tomorrow!
Thank you! I start PT today which seems a little too quick!
I’m so happy to hear you are making good progress!
Beautiful photos and I believe you are starting your days the proper way: in nature. I read somewhere recently that we should all get outside in the morning for at least 10 minutes and let the sun touch our skin, that it is good for us physically and mentally.
I’m sure that is true! My doctor told me to get outside. I like the quiet listening to nature in the morning. Before my surgery I was walking for an hour every morning soaking it in.
