A week ago, we visited our son and daughter-in-law in the East Bay. This was the line at the bakery before it opened. My son introduced me to this bakery a few years ago. Now when we stay at the Claremont, I make it to the bakery which is across the street, before it opens and they sell out of the most delicious croissants.
A couple times, they sold out of my favorite ham and Manchego cheese croissants just as I was next in line! Also, they serve sandwiches a few days a week and I’ve never been lucky enough to buy one because they sell out, too.
Yum! Fortunately there are plenty of other tasty items to choose from when my favorites are sold out. I went every morning and was thankful for the steep walk down the hill from the hotel. It made me feel less guilty making the steep walk up the hill to the hotel with a bag full of treats.
One of the highlights of our trip was the food! The first night we went to a Mediterranean restaurant with our son. Night two, I treated my son and DIL to a famous French restaurant. And besides the hotel that has amazing food, we went to Nob Hill in San Francisco for Italian. All were delicious. But now I’m so spoiled nothing sounds good to eat at home.
But the biggest highlight of all was spending time with my son and daughter-in-law including a trip to Sonoma and this park in Fairfax with redwoods.

I’m not a huge fan of waiting on long lines, but that bakery could be worth it.

The good news is the line moved really fast. They had several people taking orders at once.
Crazy lines at the bakery! It does make for a special treat when you visit though. I would love to walk in that park.
My week is mostly medical stuff. It’s all starting to pile up, some routine and some not and there’s more later in the month. I anticipate a long post at some point just to process things.
It seems like so much of our lives this past year have been medical. I recently had my annual physical and I had so many tests to take including mammogram, colonoscopy, bone density plus blood work. The park was such a treat because it was a hot day and it was so cool and soothing to sit under the redwoods.
By any chance, was that famous French restaurant called, the “French Laundry”? Our governor highly recommends that place.
Ha! I remember that. I was a California resident at the time.

It was a great way to start the day, especially with the challenging walk up a steep hill. We don’t have hills like that where we live.
The redwoods are so beautiful! We have a croissant place near us in Lakeland, Florida. The owner trained in France and it is very popular here. Sells out quickly.
The redwoods gave us nice shade on a very hot and sunny day. That’s great that you have a bakery near you like this one. We don’t have anything like this around us in Arizona.
Well, Lakeland isn’t within walking distance, more of a small town. Probably about 45 minutes away or so. Lots of support for new businesses.
That sounds like a fun day trip.
Actually, I just mentioned it to the husband and he reminded me that they open at 6 and are often sold out by 9 and closed by 1 p.m. Open 3 days a week. Have to look it up and see if anything changed!
That’s crazy to sell out that fast.
Yes, Born & Bread Bakehouse. Not open today. Just looked them up and my mouth is watering! I think we can both find things we can eat!

What is really neat is the support from the community as she began very small and it grew. We have actually never visited but it has a wonderful small town area for walking. Maybe when it is not raining! We do welcome the rain!

The Sonoma park sounds fantastic but as I’m cursed with an extra sweet tooth I can’t take erase the image of those amazing pastries from my head now. I say well worth it the queue

It was a great week with my son and DIL. Unfortunately, our daughter was at a conference in LA. The croissant for breakfast with coffee was wonderful too.
