Gilded Flickers, Gila Woodpeckers, Mourning Doves and Red

What are your plans for this weekend? Are you rooting for the Seahawks?

    • The solar panel does keep the camera going, but only up until a week or two. Then I have to bring the camera in and charge it. The newer feeder is doing much better. I charged it inside initially, but it’s at around 80 percent two weeks later. The gilded flicker is amazing. It was a surprise to see it because they don’t come around much.

  1. Red looks lovely next to the bright blue color. So glad he and Mrs are back. We’re in the mid to high 60’s here so I was contemplating a hike. The game will be on and yes, rooting for the Seahawks of course! The family is also checking into a 2nd dog entering the family. They lost Coco early last year and are visiting a rescue tomorrow so I may have pictures at some point if Luca gets a new companion.

    • My husband said the same thing about Red and bright blue Bird Buddy. I’m so relieved that Red and Mrs. are back. Go Seahawks! I’d love to see the new addition to the family. I hope Luca gets a new friend. It’s so hard to say goodbye to our pets.

      • I hope Luca gets the last word on choice. He is very specific about dogs he tolerates/likes now that he’s the only dog. I hope he finds someone at the rescue he feels friendly with. Also- the Nancy Guthrie thing…I was shocked to hear about that when it happened!

      • I’ve wanted my daughter to get another dog, because I worry about how she’ll handle losing Waffles some day. He’s turning 10. But she said he’s the same way. He is used to be an only dog. I hope Luca gets a friendly dog who he likes. Being in Arizona and being out in nature in a home similar to Nancy Guthrie’s is really unsettling.

  2. The woodpeckers are quite striking up close and personal.
Funny thing I never thought about until seeing Bird Buddy videos? How much the feeders swing while the birds are eating. That would make me dizzy.
    🥴

  3. Wow, those feeders are fantastic, Elizabeth!! The birds are so close and the focus is perfect. Your backyard is so beautiful! I can’t feed seed because of the nasty Rock Pigeons here. I can’t fathom the mind that would kidnap anyone, especially senior citizens, its evil.

    • I feel like our Mourning Doves are similar to your Rock Pigeons. There are so many of them and they hog the feeders. I am happy I treated myself to a new Bird Buddy. It has kept me smiling while recovering from surgery. Years ago it was my son’s account to raise money and do fulfillment for the Bird Buddy guys who are from Yugoslavia. My son raised $11 million to get the project off the ground.

As for Nancy Guthrie, it’s so disturbing that a woman in her 80s would disappear and we don’t have any answers.

  4. What great videos! I’m familiar with the birds, but don’t often to get to see them face-to-face. Thanks for sharing! Red looks so handsome within the bright frame of the Bird Buddy. I don’t follow sports, but we will be seeing a theater production, The Merry Wives of Windsor, which will hopefully be fun.

    • I’m glad you enjoyed the videos and the photo of Red. The color blue really compliments him. I am from Seattle so I’m a Seahawks fan. Also, we’ve followed the QB Sam Darnold since he was in college. I’ve written about how his parents let him play whatever sport he wanted. He never attended camps or had private lessons, which in SOCAL is unheard of. He’s a humble, down-to-earth guy who could have gone pro in whatever sport he wanted. Plus, he’s had a really rough road in the NFL and was written off.

  5. That is a strange story about the missing woman in Arizona. My 83 year old retired teacher friend called to discuss it with me. She had lived in that area with her husband and family. She told me it is a little desolate. I don’t feel she will be found in a good state but I could be wrong.

    • I agree that I don’t think this is going to end well. We also live in a desolate area of Arizona about two hours away. The entire story makes me uncomfortable. We have a gate to our neighborhood with individual codes to get in. Yesterday somebody smashed through the heavy metal gate and destroyed the masonry monument where the gate is mounted. That’s creepy too. It must have really damaged a truck. The HOA is trying to figure out who did it.

      • We don’t have guards. Just a broken gate! There are cameras there, plus we have these fake saguaros on the road outside our neighborhood with license plate readers. They record every car that drives by.

  6. Fun with birds! I’m surprised you’re having to deal with charging batteries. My solar charger keeps mine topped up. It looks like yours has a solar panel, too.

    • I’m enjoying the new feeder. I had an issue with the older feeder being attacked by birds and the cord to the solar panel being dumped into the wash and broken. Thanks Mourning Doves! Bird Buddy sent me a new cord, but it’s never held a charge for more than a week. The new one is much better and the charge seems to last. I’m not sure if the older one is from the damage, or just an earlier model.

  7. You’re getting some AMAZING footage of those beautiful birds!! I absolutely LOVE woodpeckers. We get Northern Flickers here. I’ve seen little Hairy and Downy woodpeckers, Red-bellied and Red Headed, too. They are gorgeous!! And even a Pileated woodpecker once at a friend’s home. What a treat that was! 😀 Blue jays are one of my absolute favorite birds. I think it’s because of their size and incredible foliage. I know they’re bullies though. 🤭
Thanks for sharing your backyard birds with us. 😊

    • I’m so glad you enjoyed my videos of woodpeckers. You’ve seen so many varieties. I would love to see a Pileated woodpecker. What a treat that would be! I don’t see Blue jays here but you’re right they are beautiful. 😊

  8. You are such a kind and conscientious neighbor. Man, are your feeders getting a workout?! The birds are lovely and kinda noisy when up close. 🤣

My heart hurts for Nancy’s family!!!

    • The Bird Buddy instructions tell you not to record outside your own yard. It makes sense. Talk about a workout. The doves knocked down the new feeder. I found it on the ground along with the shepherd’s hook is was on.

Yes, I hope Nancy’s family gets some news soon.

      • Thank you Elizabeth, I’ll have to do some investigating 🙂 I spend most of my day by the window but one or two of these out and about would be great

      • I spend most of my day by the window, too. My photos are from a Nikon I bought ten years ago at Costco. I got two new lenses last year that I mentioned in my post. The bird feeders can be found on mybirdbuddy.com. My son worked on their account to get them off the ground raising money through campaigns and doing fulfillment.
