I’m frustrated because I planned to post beautiful sunsets for this post. I clicked on the block called “image” and got this message: “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.” It’s not previewing I’m concerned about — it’s posting a photo!
I’ve tried everything suggested after I clicked on help. Live chat is now down. I’ve emailed help and got a response that somebody will get back to me. In the meantime, if you want to see my sunset photos, look at https://www.instagram.com/e.a.wickham/.
According to one of my friends who moved from Palm Springs to Arizona 10 years before us, it’s Sunset Season.
I didn’t know there was a season for sunsets, did you?
Before we moved, we’d visit a friend here who introduced me to my husband almost 40 years ago. The friend and I were from Seattle. My husband came up to visit said friend in Seattle and we were introduced. The rest is history.
Our friend moved to Scottsdale five or six years ago and invited us to visit. We’d stay in his casita and really liked it out here. I couldn’t believe the sunsets for one thing. I wonder if it was sunset season?
The plan was to move here after my husband retired. But then COVID hit and my husband was working remotely. Real estate prices in Palm Springs were going through the roof and hubby felt it was time to make our move — because if he could work from home in Palm Springs, he could work from home in Scottsdale.
At first I was against the move. I loved my old Spanish Colonial home downtown Palm Springs. We were two blocks from restaurants and shopping. We had raised our kids in that home and lived there for 28 years. Our kids promised to never talk to us again if we sold the house. The realtor gave us a price to sell and I (not wanting to sell) insisted on raising the sale price by 40% and told my kids NOBODY would pay that much for our 1930s house that needed work.
To my surprise, we had four offers in four hours — two over asking — and one of those with “no inspections.”
So here we are in Arizona, three years later, enjoying the Winter Sunset Season. Oh yes, the kids got over it. They are speaking to us.
Is anyone else experiencing glitches with WP?
Have you thought about moving your home or blog from WP? If so where would you go?

I haven’t noticed any glitches, but I didn’t try to post any images this morning
I got an email that someone will look into it. I’m waiting.
I’m having glitches with reader. It acts twitchy sometimes. As to moving… eventually yes…
I have trouble with reader too. But this is the first time I can’t post photos. Where would you like to move to?
Warmer, walkable and interesting. Haven’t found anyplace so far
Palm Springs. But you might find 110 to 120 degrees more than “warm.” 😀
Yeah….😉
😂
No glitches…but I’m probably overdue for a WP headache. Sorry for yours….but your sunset pics make me happy…so thanks for persevering! As to your Palm Springs house…gosh…you couldn’t NOT sell, but I love that little haven so much. I can’t imagine how hard it was to leave — even for beautiful Arizona. 🥰
I’m glad you enjoyed my sunset photos on Instagram. I was sad to leave my community of Palm Springs and my unique home. But now I’m so thankful we did for many reasons.
Yes, yes…and thank you for sharing all of those parts of yourself. Xo! 🥰
😌
I’ve been in Phoenix metro (Gilbert, Tempe, Scottsdale) my entire life have spent the last 20 years dreaming of leaving. 😅 The only two things I’ll miss are the August monsoon/lightening storms and the January sunsets. Both give me the sweetest nostalgia for me childhood. I loved growing up here, but Phoenix has just changed too much in my lifetime and it makes me sad because I’m not fond of the changes.
I loved Sequim/Port Angeles and the Olymipic National Forest, but don’t like the crime rates and some of the statet politics. We fell in love with Boise and some of the small towns in the valley of the Boise National Forest, so that’s our 5-10 year plan.
I don’t like change either. I totally understand that. When we put our Palm Springs home up for sale the local Indian tribe who owns every other section of land, planned a 15,000-seat arena for hockey and concerts. It was to be built two blocks from our home without adequate parking or infrastructure! After we moved, they bent to pressure and built it in a vacant area off the 10. I love Sequim and Boise. My dream when I was in college was to live in Hailey, ID.
Change is so tough, isn’t it? Ugh. I’ve not heard of Haily, ID, but I’ll need to check it out.
Hailey is close to Sun Valley. When I was growing up it was a small ranching town. Funny, my daughter’s college swim coach grew up there.
Did you try turning your computer off and on? LOL! It usually works! I have thought about moving after my mom passes away, which could be a year or sooner. This house feels too big now. I was thinking of selling and buying an RV and traveling for a year.
Yes. I turned it on and off, emptied the cache, did everything WP suggested… Traveling by RV sounds fun. We bought one for a short period of time, but neither of us liked to drive it. We found out some handle better than others. Ours was not good driving wise.
Hope you get it fixed. So frustrating. A friend told me that they thought pulling a trailer was better than an actual RV. They had tried both methods.
I have friends who do that and they like it. Our RV was tall and didn’t have stability. I refused to drive it and my husband found it stressful. He said he felt like he had no control on the freeway of staying in a lane.
We got tired of towing a trailer and went for a Ford Transit conversion van 🚐. Much better and we are both comfortable driving it. But it is small!
I think if we got something small rather than a Winnebago, we’d still be in it.
Does it have a bathroom?
Yes! Small, but toilet, sink, and shower (which I have only used once, in desperation).
I take it from the comments that you meant moving as in where you live. When I read the question, I thought you were asking about moving from WordPress… and I have thought about that. But, I recently helped a friend set up a blog on another platform and let me tell ya- the glitches were so much worse! It really showed me that WordPress is pretty great. As for changing where I live, I pretty much love home, no matter where it is. The more places I live, the more I discover to like, and also the more places I have to miss. We move around a lot. I’m not in my last home yet, unless something unforeseen happens to me. I’m curious to see where I’ll eventually end up, but I’m more than content where I am while I wait. I’m so glad you like your new(ish) space.
It’s interesting you brought up moving your blog. I thought about it and did some research, but stuck with what seemed easiest. WP tech support is good, so I’m sure my glitch will be resolved. How fortunate for you to live in different places and enjoy each experience.
You gave me an idea to update my question 😊
Reader is weird at times- blogs with new posts are listed, then I turn around and they aren’t there anymore. Not really dependable, but I don’t want to go to email notifications either- I find those irritating!
While I might eventually end up in another area of WA I really don’t anticipate ever leaving the state. The oldest keeps hinting at CO but I keep saying no. This is home.
Washington is gorgeous. After I moved to Palm Springs and got married, I spent the next ten years trying to convince my husband to move to WA. By then we had kids, careers and we stayed in Palm Springs.
I won’t do email notifications either. WP reader is glitchy and they keep moving things around, but I can deal with it. What I dislike are the ads they put on some blogs. I won’t visit those sites, but just view in Reader format.
I had forgotten about the adds Eilene, and I think since I am still holding onto the free version they might be on mine! I usually always view posts in reader. It’s pretty rare that I go to the actual site unless I’m checking a new to me blog and I want to see more about the author and what they typically write.
Agree!
Sometimes, I enjoy the formatting and look of a site. It also appears that reads on Reader do not get counted in stats, but most people don’t really care about that.
Well there’s another thing I never knew- the reads aren’t counted…all so much behind the scenes stuff I don’t care about and interesting facts that I bet many don’t know as well!
I do like to see how others set up their sites initially when I’m getting to know them. Maybe I read into that aspect a bit in my decisions to jump onboard with a new blog. I know I have a preference for certain themes and formats- which sounds very judgmental as I write that, yikes! I do read quite a few old posts to get a better idea of the author so wow, I hope I’m not basing my decision to subscribe on looks alone!
I understand that. Some people use a format that shrinks everything to cram a full screen into a phone screen. All is too small to read! But if I like the content, I just read them in Reader. My biggest peeve is poor grammar, typos, and repetitive material that goes nowhere. Those, I drop.
I had ads on at one point but turned them off because of comments like yours.
Sorry about WP glitch, hope they get it fixed soon. I use images a lot!! Fortunately I haven’t had serious issues with WP. My main problem is there are blogs that I am subscribed to, but they don’t show up on my reader when they have a new post and sometimes i have had trouble commenting on blogs.
As for moving. My husband talks about moving south when we retire, but it will depend where the children are most likely. Though I know we won’t move to any colder climate. LOL!. He is ready to be done with snow.
I have the same WP glitch you have with reader. I’m sure I miss many posts. We were hoping our kids would move to AZ by us. My daughter lived here for one year and moved to the Bay Area to be by her brother. It costs so much to live there, we hope they figure it out. We’d love to be closer to them, but we’re not moving there!
This is a problem a few bloggers are having. I think it has something to do with your plugins. The sunset photos are amazing.
Thank you!
🥰
I hope they fix your problem. I had an image glitch a while back and WP was no help. I finally figured out a solution on my own.
I love Durango and while I enjoy traveling and visiting many places, even fantasize about living in some of them, I doubt I would ever move. This feels like home to me. And I like that feeling.
I found out images works from my phone, but that’s not how I want to post. I haven’t been to Durango but I’ve been to several other places in Colorado — all beautiful.
Not with pictures. I use the OS version and the Web version of WP. While on the Web version if I am editing a post and click the Back Arrow on the browser, WP will rename my post for me. Usually the same name as the last post.
That’s a weird glitch.
It gets entertaining when one realizes that 2 or 3 posts all have the same name.
Ugh!
I have the free platform and hate their new compositing modules. I always opt for Classic Editor when I create posts and save them as drafts. I’ve never had any issues with it. It’s an extra step, but worth it to me.
I did that for about a year using Classic. I finally moved to the blocks.
I’ve been hearing a lot of people are having issues with the image link. You’re not alone. I hear they’re working on it but nothing yet. That’s such an interesting story about how you met your husband, your beautiful home in PS, and your eventual movie to Arizona. You’ve managed the move so beautifully. And I’m glad the kids came around. I haven’t really considered moving to another platform but if I did I hear Substack is really good. Are you considering moving your blog? Hugs, C
I thought about moving to another platform a few years ago, but after looking into it, decided to stay with WP.
