And now they’re gone

I’ve been fortunate to have two quick visits by my kids. They called my husband and asked what he wanted for Father’s Day. He said he wanted to see them.

My daughter’s visit was fun because she had a few days off and we got to spend a lot of time together. It’s been great to have my son here, too, but he works remotely so we only had evenings free to talk and hang out.

Both kids wanted my home cooking rather than going out. That made me smile. It made me mom proud.

I enjoyed watching my son work remotely. He wears a headset and stands while working on his computer. He’s either typing away furiously or conducting meetings, laughing, talking and smiling. He works nonstop from 8 a,m. until the evening when he finishes up with his last meeting.

I’m very proud of the adult he’s become and how hard working he is. Also, it seems this is a job he really enjoys.

Now that they’re gone I’m a bit sad, but happy that they are living their lives.

It’s back to me, my husband and Olive the cat.

What are you doing for Father’s Day?

  1. Ha! Yesterday was my birthday, and Cupcake asked me what I wanted. My answer? A pedicure. Full blown: warm stones, warm wax, calf massage pedicure (no polish). So that is what I got. Never mind about the testosterone confusion here. I am old enough to not give a shit. I liked it, big time.

  2. When my kids first leave after spending the weekend with us, I find I often need to give myself a good reality shake. We tell old stories and reminisce and then poof they’re gone. I need to remind myself that yes, they’re doing fun stuff with their lives and that’s exactly what I want for them. But that doesn’t make it any easier. Ha, ha. In any event, enjoy the time together as a family!

      • My father and my ex are both gone – one physically, the other emotionally. I am coming closer to getting a furbaby of my own, though, as my kids have been pushing me to do. Mothering really never totally stops and a cat is akin to an independent adult.

      • When we left this weekend for the wedding out of state, my cat wasn’t drinking or eating. or using the litter box. I worried about her the whole time away. Fortunately, she is absolutely fine and the litter box and food and water were used. Yes, a dog is more affectionate than a cat, but I don’t know what I’d do without my Olive.

  3. Having grown up kids is bittersweet. On one hand you’re proud of their independence and on the other hand, you miss when they were little and dependent on you. I’m glad you got to see them. I haven’t seen my oldest brother in 4 years and my youngest in 8 years. I wonder how my mom feels. The middle one moved back in with my parents a year ago. It seems to make her happy.
