A young female Gambel’s Quail walking past the cactus statue.
We have two types of birds that visit every day. Quail and doves. I enjoy quail more than doves, because with their top knots they look like clowns and have tons of personality.

I caught this sharp photo of a male quail alone on the bird block.

This female quail strikes a pose on a backyard bench.

Papa quail is looking a bit round. I can tell the difference between the adults and juveniles who are entering adulthood by their size. The ones who hatched in the Spring look skinny in comparison to this guy (see the first photo for a young one.)

Wickham Works Cards Update:
It’s been a couple days since my website went live for my photographic greeting cards. I mailed out my first order to a fellow blogger. Thank you!
I went out to dinner with women I used to volunteer with to raise money for a residential facility to rehab sex-trafficked victims. Our group is defunct, but we still get together socially. One of those ladies looked at my cards and asked for custom stationery featuring her name and flowers.
Yes, I can take custom orders, too! I hadn’t thought about that before.
If you get a chance, visit my website: https://www.wickhamworkscards.com/

Happy weekend! What are your plans?

Marvelous quail shots.
I just love seeing them strut!
I can get lost looking out the window watching the quail.
They’re simply adorable!
So true!
Nice photos! I wonder who Gamble is? I’m glad your business website is taking off, Elizabeth. Have a great weekend! 😎
Thank you! I’m looking for a quiet weekend after a busy week.
I wish we had quail. We just get the very greedy doves and pigeons although they are good foragers for everything dropped on the ground by the smaller birds so that helps. So happy for you that the business is already taking off. Maybe you should consider local shops or markets, although you may have already mentioned that?
I’m so happy we have quail. The doves would take over here without them. Yes, I’m going to go to local shops. There’s quite a few in the little towns of Carefree and Cave Creek right by us. Some sell cards on consignment. I’m just nervous about going, but will get in soon.
Good for you! I think it will help immensely to show that you are getting online orders and even special orders. That’s a great selling point 🙂
Thank you. I never thought of that!
I was thinking about what to grill this weekend, and then I read this post. Quail! Ha ha. Just kidding! 🙂
Ha! I told a friend from our old town that I had discovered a quail’s nest with 12 eggs. She asked me when I was going to eat them! She was serious. I can get quail eggs at the farmer’s market if I want them.
Your cards will also be a treat for Christmas cards! Publix sells many meats, but not Quail, I believe. I would like to explore a few new places for walking. This morning, I drove to a donation site at a church and they had a wonderful field, so I did my walking! I think this is the way to go so as not to get bored with the same walk.
That’s a good idea to walk to different areas. It can get boring to take the same walk everyday. I’m starting PT today. I lost a lot of strength and balance since my ankle surgery over a year ago. I like your idea about Christmas.
This time, she encouraged me at PT to return to the pool and it is a hassle getting dressed still, so I am like ‘another week or so.’
I understand. My girlfriend in Santa Barbara who broke her hip cycling can only wear loose sundresses right now.
I am still cautious of movements with posterior hip replacement. Maybe I am overcautious but I still feel like the bionic woman and I don’t want to incur any more $$ with my hip!
I think my friend should have gotten a hip replacement. Instead she got rods and plates to hold her hip together. Her leg looks like it turns in. She can’t hold it straight.
That sounds painful.
I think the recovery is supposed to be much better with a hip replacement.
I do love the quail, too. I saw some here recently for the first time in decades. I hope we start seeing more of them.
They are such a joy to have in my yard. I hope you see more too.
