A Harris’s Hawk landed in a tree in our backyard. We haven’t had one stop by for months, although I see them soaring overhead. I could hear his call and I spent a bit of time trying to spot him behind branches. The link is to a Youtube video of Harris’s hawks in flight with their sounds. I wouldn’t want to mess with those claws or beak!
This is a compilation of my favorite photos that I took this week.

Papa quail shares the birdseed block with a few of his babies.

A White-winged Dove perches on a flamingo buddy.

Bully bird Curve-billed Thrasher lands on the cactus statue before scaring everyone away from the birdseed block.

An adult House Finch feeds it’s juvenile.

Red watches over the rain meter during a Monsoon week.
Do you have a favorite photo? If so, which one?
What fun plans do you have for the weekend?

Amazing capture Elizabeth.
I love the photo of the hawk, with all the yellow in it.
Thanks! It’s always exciting to get hawk photos.
I would not want to be in the clutches of that hawks talons. Great capture and he clearly had his eye on something I think.
I heard him for about an hour. He took off over the wall where another hawk was calling to him. He definitely was hunting for some prey.
That hawk is looking deadly serious. Good pictures – as always
Thanks! That hawk does look deadly serious. I see them flying around and then they land on the other side of the wall on the golf course.
I like Papa Quail and his babies, best. Zero plans here, maybe a pedicure. 😂
A pedicure sounds like a good idea. I’ll have to schedule one for myself! I’m glad you enjoyed the quail.
I hate to ask, but was the hawk there for those adorable quail? They seem like they’d make the perfect snack.
I’m sure the hawks do eat quail. We also have two types of doves they like plus bunnies.
Another nice selection of the birds, EA. I’ve been watching the swallows in my gourd birdhouse, but the activity is sporadic and I don’t hear any chicks. I had assumed the eggs did not hatch. I guess I’ll just keep watching! Maybe they’ll surprise me and have fledglings.
