Friday’s Photos

A Harris’s Hawk landed in a tree in our backyard. We haven’t had one stop by for months, although I see them soaring overhead. I could hear his call and I spent a bit of time trying to spot him behind branches. The link is to a Youtube video of Harris’s hawks in flight with their sounds. I wouldn’t want to mess with those claws or beak!

This is a compilation of my favorite photos that I took this week.

What fun plans do you have for the weekend?

  1. I would not want to be in the clutches of that hawks talons. Great capture and he clearly had his eye on something I think.

  2. Another nice selection of the birds, EA. I’ve been watching the swallows in my gourd birdhouse, but the activity is sporadic and I don’t hear any chicks. I had assumed the eggs did not hatch. I guess I’ll just keep watching! Maybe they’ll surprise me and have fledglings.

  3. Do your hawks attack your birds? As much as I love hawks, they are definitely predatory around here. I have to be very careful with the dogs and the yard birds, especially during the winter.

    Beautiful pictures as always. 😘💜

    • Thank you! I’ve never seen the hawks attack our birds. The only time I saw them eat a bird was when a dove flew into our patio and was dead on the patio. We used to have hawks often, but this was the first one I’ve seen in a long time. I do see them hunting around the desert flying in twos or threes. But they don’t stop in our yard much. You do have to be careful with small animals and dogs.
