I had some fun bird photography this weekend.
Plus, we had guests over that I was so excited to see. One of our kids’ friends from club swimming in Palm Springs who lives in Tempe with her husband and six-month old first born baby! We made lunch and they played in the pool.
I also managed to get a few captures of bird photos that I like.

A Roadrunner darted about chasing quail. This clever guy hid himself in a planter at the far end of the yard with only his head showing. He’d jump out “Beep beep!” and go for the chase. Fortunately, he didn’t have success.

Curve-billed Thrasher with fuzzy feathers make me believe he’s a youngster.

This Abert’s Towhee juvenile explored a planter.

More juvies looking for trouble!

A Gila Woodpecker up in the tree surveying the quail spectacle below.

This grown up Curve-billed Thrasher was keeping an eye out for the young one.

Mrs. and Red hung out in the morning before it got too hot!

We even have a juvenile croc!
Which photos do you like best?
What fun did you have this weekend?

I like the roadrunner photo best. Great capture of the color behind his eyes.
We used to feed a roadrunner. One day as I was preparing to drop a meatball in his mouth, he suddenly crouched low, turned around, and quickly ran off. He’d spotted a sparrow about 15 feet away, and he was quick enough to grab it. The sparrow flapped around and finally got loose, but I was amazed at how fast the roadrunner was able to grab him.
Roadrunners are quick and crafty. I’m glad the sparrow in your yard made an escape!
I’m glad, too. It saved a sparrow lunch for our hawk.
😅
I’m drawn to the planter one. it looks so innocent and curious. we played electric shuffleboard over the weekend. it was so much fun!! we are good philipino food and saw The Invite which is funny and cringey and thought provoking
I’m enjoying all the young birds who stop by. I’ve never heard of electric shuffleboard. Also, I’ll have to look into The Invite.
my daughter had gone for her birthday a few years ago. it’s a long table and you push the disc with your fingers. there’s like four different games and everything is done electronically.
Interesting!
That’s a wonderful picture of Mrs. and I love the road runner story—beep beep!🤓
Thank you! I used PhotoShop to get rid of the rock in the Roadrunner photo. It looks much better. I may order a card with the updated photo!
Yay!
Excellent photos, Elizabeth! The Road Runner is such an attractive bird!
The Road Runner really stands out in a crowd!
These are all wonderful, especially the youngsters. So cute!
It’s such a delight to have so many young birds at our house.
I so wanted to see a roadrunner when we visited Arizona but never did.
I’d love a video if you ever get the chance.
😊
I have videos of roadrunners in Palm Springs, but none in Arizona. They move so quickly!
We have one of those juvenile crocodiles in our backyard! We just had our cherry tree trimmed this morning, long overdue, and I can see all the birds back at the feeder. I like the photo of the Road Runner! Great one to use in your new enterprise! We had a rainstorm last night, no watering as everything is watered!!!! How is the weather by you?
Funny you have a croc like ours! We were supposed to have rain and thunder and lightening last night but it didn’t happen. The rest of the week we have a chance of rain. I hope it happens!
This is our rainy season. Yes, we have lots of crocs nearby and a few alligators in real time!
This is our monsoon season. I hope it happens!
I hope it happens!
👍🏼
I am glad we had the tree trimmed. The rain and storms have been torrential in the evening. It was overgrown. He did a fantastic job and hauled away the debris. So nice!
I love Red playing “king of the mountain” in that first pic! 😜❤️😜
Red s such a show stopper!
He sure is!!!! 😎❤️😎
😊 💕
Well, hell. An Avian Cornucopia. “I liked the Road Runner best”, said the coyote.
Roadrunner is the winner today. I had two coyotes walking along the outside of our fence, but I wasn’t quick enough to get their picture.
Enjoyed them all, but the roadrunner is my favorite! Though the croc is cute. 🙂
We have a big croc and a juvie croc hanging out at our pool! Everyone seems to like the roadrunner.
We don’t see them here, so they are special to see. 😉 and of course, there was the Roadrunner cartoon we grew up. LOL!
👍🏼
The Roadrunner is fabulous. The Quail chicks with their top knot made me laugh. A good gallery of the weekend of birds
Thank you so much! I sent a photo of the roadrunner to a friend and asked if I should use Photoshop to remove the rock in the left hand corner if I want to use it for a card. She said to move on. What’s your opinion as a photographer?
I would remove it as well, especially if you are going to use it on a card.
Thanks! I appreciate your opinion.
I did a quick clone, a copy and paste of the other bits of the gravel to cover the big rock on the photo, and it does look better
Thanks for the idea! I think it’s a good enough photo for a greeting card. People seem to like the Roadrunner, but the rock is distracting.
I loved the Roadrunner and the juveniles looking for trouble! So good! Thank you, I smiled at every one. Hugs, C
Thank you! What sweet words to hear!
Absolutely stunning Elizabeth. Love that you’re making cards now. Awesome.
Thanks for the encouraging words. If nothing monetary comes from the cards, its a fun project to try. I gave away my first set to our guests yesterday. They were excited!
I like all your “juvies” looking for trouble. The best part of my weekend was actually this morning at 1:30 when we finally got a rainstorm!
Oh my goodness! We’ve been waiting for two days for the rainstorm. If it comes, that will be the highlight of my week.
We may get more over the next 9 days. Fingers crossed!🤞
We finally had rain last night. I sat out on the patio and enjoyed it.
Great photos, Elizabeth! Amazing how many juveniles you have around your yard this time of year. Including the one in the pool! So fun!
Thanks! I’m enjoying all the bird families and watching their babies grow.
All the pictures are amazing Elizabeth
Love them all.
Thank you so much!
You’re very welcome
Wonderful photos, and you made me laugh with your Roadrunner “Beep beep!” comment. 😂
I’m glad you enjoyed my photos. I had a few good ones over the weekend that I was happy with.
Excellent! Those photos are going to help with your new business.
I keep judging whether my photos are card worthy.
Well, nothing wrong with trying. I think people are going to buy them. Later on, you can probably check with gift shops and Welcome centers in your area. Visitors are always buying cards in those places. I’m sure Red is going to attract interest.
We have two touristy towns next to us with lots of galleries and gift shops. Some take cards and art on consignment. So I will try those.
That’s pretty cool. I think that is going to work.
Thanks! I hope so 😊
