This is my first card, second attempt. I’m using the app Canva. I was so excited to receive my first test order of “Red cards” yesterday. But there was something wrong. My excitement soon turned to disappointment.
I thought I had created a folded card with Red’s photo on the front, my logo on the back and blank inside so people can write a personal message. What came in the mail was this:
A flat two-sided card that was blank on the back. No logo. No fold. Not what I thought I had created.
I used Canva AI to help with the layout to make sure I had the pages set up correctly. According to AI, it was ready to go and AI even complimented me on my card!
After delivery, I immediately went to Canva’s website to complain that my cards weren’t printed correctly. Customer service was through a chatbot. What a world we live in! No human beings around. The bot told me that I had selected “Cards” when I should have selected “Folded Cards.” I asked where to find it and was told “Go to Home, click on Print Shop, click on Folded Cards.”
But of course. Silly me. Why didn’t I think of that. Instead, I clicked on Templates. Ugh.
Canva was kind enough to give me an instant refund. After finding “Folded Cards,” I was able to recreate the card properly (I hope) and ordered another small test run. (See first photo above.)
In the meantime, while I wait to inspect round two of test cards, I got my business license, I ordered business cards (with my license number) and I’m creating more cards.
One of my graphic designer friends who encouraged me in this project said, “Next comes your website!”
I’ve tried to stay away from AI, but it pops up everywhere.
Are you finding more and more AI in your daily life? Where and do you use it?
Do you have any suggestions for an easy website app that’s not WP?

I mostly encounter AI when I do Google searches and they are consistently changing what is offered. It’s very rare that I go deeper than a basic search however.
Thank you! I’m glad I didn’t order all four versions of cards I had created so far. Now I need to update them all to fit the model of the folded version. I encounter AI when I do Google searches too. I don’t go beyond that, except in this one case I needed help with the layout of my card.
Glad you were able to get a refund. Maybe you found repurpose the mistakes as postcards?

AI is everywhere. I can’t avoid it. and no to websites….I’m a Luddite in that way

The first card upside down looked very good! I hope you get it straightened out. Yes, AI gives me too much information. Sometimes I just need the facts and sometimes the information is a little off when it comes from the internet and everything posted. IF you google a novel and the plot, characters, you might notice this and it is kind of funny.

AI has its pros and cons. One pro is that if you do something stupid, and only the chatbot knows, then you don’t look stupid to any humans.
But I feel bad for your disappointing experience. Maybe I’ll send you a sympathy card.
That’s true that you don’t have to deal with humans…Sometimes that’s a plus. I felt like I needed a sympathy card. Now I’m waiting to see what test run two looks like.

Yes, AI does pop up everywhere, and I mostly try to avoid it, though it can be helpful at times with questions about various things.
It was fun to use when I had it make that one image of me with things I like. So it can be entertaining. 😄
Thank you for liking the folded card. I’ve decided to wait to see the printed cards from Canva in person before I recreate my other three cards — so far. I’m glad it I didn’t order all the cards I had ready and did a test run! I was struggling with the layout and having AI pop up seemed so helpful.
I like the idea of using AI to make an image of things I like!

I get rather irritated with AI bots popping up with every app and software. Can’t even look at a PDF without a bot wanting to summarize the document for me. Ugh. I’ll have to figure out how to turn it off.
That said, I do read the Google AI response to questions often. Once in a great while I use ChatGPT for a project. It also helps me figure out how to do formatting in WP sometimes.
Thank you! Yes, it’s annoying to have AI pop up everywhere, but at times it can be useful doing research. But I always question AI information because it’s grabbing info from random sources.
Oh, I love it! Printing things can be tricky. I made bookmarks through canva for my book launch last year and I printed 100, only to discover I used a stupid QR code generator that wanted to charge me a huge fee after the fact. It’s all part of the process. Sounds like you have some great friends guiding you along.
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has had trouble with Canva. Yes, my friends are great. We worked together in Palm Springs. They both own graphic design businesses for 30 plus years.

Awww…I feel for you! I’ve had more than one mishap printing from Canva and then go back and yelp, to myself, “whoops” The good news? Your content — your photography — is spectacular! The rest is just execution and mechanics. Excited for you! 💝💝💝

Your card project is such a nice use of Red’s photos. For AI, I’ve found it most useful when it helps describe an image clearly before I start designing. A tool like PhotoPrompt can turn a photo into a structured prompt or description, which might help when creating matching cards, prints, or website images. I still wouldn’t trust AI with print settings, though!

I thought AI would help me make sure I did the card layout properly. Next, I started building a website and asked AI what would be good website builder to use for cards featuring nature photography. I worked on it for a week and realized I’m going to be with my son this week. I asked him if he’d review my website before it goes live. He’s going to help me but told me I used the wrong site to build the website and another one would be more effective for me!!! So much for AI.
