I’ve taken a few photos I like this week of Red and other backyard creatures including quail, bunnies and javelina. I’m posting some of them here. It’s always entertaining to be surrounded by wildlife and to be able to capture the birds and animals with my Nikon or iPhone.

A papa quail perched in a planter above his family to keep watch.

Seven or eight javelina stopped by Monday night. They were mostly younger creatures including one wee one with a couple adults. The yellow flowers on the ground are from the Palo Verde trees. We had one night of rain and then a big wind and the flowers are down.

I watched a bunny dig a hole next to our tree. Maybe he’s going for roots? Or building a den?

Look at the feet on this guy!

Red with a mourning dove.

A squirrel and quail are sharing birdseed I placed on a boulder.
Happy Wednesday! Which photos do you like best and why?

Your photos are all wonderful. Made even more so because aside from the cardinal, all the creatures are exotic to me.
❤️
Thanks! I’m glad I can bring these exotic creatures into your world and that you enjoy them!
These are all delightful, E.A.!
Thank you, Erin. I had fun taking them. Also, on a morning walk yesterday I noticed lots of plants and cacti in bloom. I went home and put my macro lens on and went back on my walk to get close up photos of blooms.
Beautiful shots Elizabeth. I think the first shot of Red is my new favorite of him. I think it just might beat out the one that you blew up into a larger frame. They’re so good. However, I love the papa quail too (the second one.) He’s no Red, but love the crispness of the shot. Wow.
Thank you so much, Brian. I had a week of out of focus shots. I realized I wasn’t wearing my glasses! I was so relieved to get these sharp photos of Red and Papa Quail. That first shot of Red is fun.
He’s a showman! Just keep taking the pics! Ha ha, he doesn’t seem to mind.
True! I was frustrated and then I got some good ones. He loves to pose and sing for me!
Very beautiful photos, Elizabeth!! I love how all animals recognise each other as not being a threat. I think they are better than many humans.
Thank you! I have photos of many of the birds and creatures together. They seem to all like birdseed too, including the javelina.
Awww…the sharing moment…the squirrel and the quail…what a great pic! Thanks, Elizabeth! 💝😊💝
Thank you, Vicki! I had a few photos of two creatures together. So much fun for me! 💕
So good! 😊❤️😊
Thank you! 🥰
Beautiful photos! Your wonderful quail photos remind me to ask about when the eggs are due to hatch. Soon?
Thank you! The parents have not been at the nest for a few weeks and a dozen eggs remain. Unfortunately, even though I stayed away as much as possible, our gardeners and pool man walk by that planter. So that’s on top of our having to take out the trash. The gardeners have blowers that I’m sure frightened them. Hopefully, they will hatch but I’m not feeling it’s likely.
I like the last photo of the share. I am so happy that a) rain came and continues b) the large crow has moved on from our birdbath.
I was happy to get that shot. We were happy to get rain, too, even though it was only one night.
I understand. Our rain is supposed to continue until the end of the week. We shall see.
I would love more rain. Lucky you!
Mr Red is stunning. Looks extra red in this shot, one of my favorites of him. I love the quail one too. Thanks for sharing your little zoo. 😊
Thanks! I put birdseed on the ground closer to where I sit and take photos. He couldn’t resist!
Ahh! He trusts you and he knows he is handsome. 😊
My husband thinks I’ll have him eating out of my hand some day! Wouldn’t that be something?
That would be awesome! 💞
Maybe someday? At least he hangs out close by when I fill the bird feeder.
I can see it happening 🙂
I hope you’re correct!
Would love it for you! ❤️
💕
I just filled the bird feeder and Red was chirping at me but I couldn’t see him. He was somewhere in the tree overheard. I kept called, “Hey Red!” as soon as I turned my back, he was in the feeder. I turned around to peak. So close!
Wow! 😍
That’s what I said. But when I turned to look back, I was so excited I tripped on a rock and spilled birdseed. But I managed to stay on my feet!
Yay for staying on your feet! No more sprained/broken ankles!!
Exactly! It could have been another disaster including hitting my head on the rocks.
That would Not have been good!
👍🏼
I always like the quail. They’re always so funny with that head feather and those big feet!
Thank you! Those big feet made me laugh!
red with morning dove. just beautiful contrast
I do like the photos when I have interactions betwen the creatures.
💕
It is wonderful to be surrounded by wildlife. That quail is quite handsome (as, of course, is Mr. Red).
I loved how the quail put himself in a planter and stood on succulents! I thought, “now there’s a picture.” I never get enough of Red. Red and Mrs. are showing up separately, so I wonder if there are eggs or babies in their nest?
I like that last one since it’s such an interesting juxtaposition of species.
Thanks. I had a few others of species together. I may use them in other posts. It’s fun to see interactions between birds plus other creatures.
Lovely photos Elizabeth.
Thank you so much! I am enjoying photography, even though my class was cancelled. I can work on improving on my own, plus I have a professional photographer friend who is also taking bird photos who helps me.
That’s really great.
👍🏼
Great portraits of each one.
I’m glad you like them. Thank you!
