My first day back home and I was thrilled to have visits by Red and Mrs. They haven’t been fed in the week that we were away, so I was afraid they left. My husband reminded me that they live in the wild. All of our birds have to find their own food — unless I’m home.

Mrs. the cutie pie was first to arrive after I put out the seed block. The seed blocks usually last four days. This one was gone within 24 hours. The birds must have been hungry. The pouring rain didn’t stop them from feasting.

Red and friends munching away.

This wet momma quail was hanging out under a bench to get out of the rain.

Can you see the rain on the barrel cactus spines?

The last bits of the seed block enjoyed by quail, sparrows and Red.

No, the quail aren’t fat, but fluffed up their feathers to protect from the rain.

Red with his House Sparrow buddies braving the rain.
What’s happening with your winter weather?
If you have a favorite photo, which one is it?

Your affection for these adorable birds shows your kindness. They must have missed you a lot while you were away from home. They are such adorable birds.
Thanks!
🤗🤗
So much responsibility! Thank goodness Red and the Mrs have you!!!! Sounds like they really missed you … they attacked that block. “Food is out guys! Get it while it’s hot!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣😎
There were birds the entire day eating at the food block. Yes, I guess they did miss me — and the birdseed.
Oh, I’m sure it was all you. The food block was a nice add-on, but they all popped in to see you Elizabeth!!!! Don’t cut yourself short. Ha, ha.
Ha! I’m just happy they are still here. I have no idea if they migrate in the Winter or not. I’ll find out.
There’s always that bit of guilt when you’re away and you think about the wildlife not getting their “extra” food 😉 We are waiting anxiously for the smallest chance of some snow along the metro corridor. The high country is finally getting snow- the peaks look amazing when we walk in the morning- but very low chance of any snow down here still for some time. They are saying much colder next week but if there’s no storms rolling in…no snow sadly.
I hope you get your snow. At least you have snow in the mountains. We have a full week of rain which is really unusual. I’m glad I’m home to feed the birds!
Very beautiful photos! The Mr is giving you the stink eye… 😂 I love our bird friends. 🥰
Thanks! I missed my backyard bird buddies while away.
Aw! I had a Robin having a bath in the birdbath a few minutes ago. Some smaller birds were hanging out with him. ❤️
That amazing! The only birds who use our birdbath are the House Sparrows.
No Robins? I think there’s a nest nearby but the couple are still in the area.
I haven’t seen a single Robin here. We had tons of them in Washington state where I grew up.
Bummer. They are very common in Michigan too.
My husband says the same thing when I worry about running out of seed and suet. “They survived without you just fine.” 😉
Love the shot of the quail seeking rain shelter. So sweet.
It’s hard to remember that these birds survived without us! There was a whole group of quail under the bench, but by the time I got my camera out and focused there was the one left.
I just love the photo of Red peeking from behind the cactus! The birds sure did miss you… or their gourmet meals. 😉
I really like that photo, too. I was so happy to come home to a warm welcome from the birds. But you’re correct, they missed their free meals.
I do like the picture of the quail! Welcome home. There is no place like home!
Thanks! Yes, it’s wonderful to be home!
Ah, must feel good to be home. Beautiful pictures
Thanks! It is great to be home, but I’m very tired. I think it will take me a few days to recover from the trip.
You should, and being stress free you relax soon.
😊
♥️♥️♥️
Great to see them all 👍 we’ve been away for a couple of days and the feeders were bare when came back this afternoon, the birds dropped on them instantly, it’s been snowing now and tonight there’s a real blow out there, I’ll need to make sure we’re all stocked up 👍
I enjoy the backyard birds so much. I’m so happy to be back home feeding them. I can imagine how the birds enjoyed your full feeders. I have a couple dozen quail devouring the birdseed. I’m glad we don’t have snow. We had two snow days the first year we moved here. I thought it was going to be every year, but never since then. We do have six straight days of rain which is unusual.
Ah, so nice to be home. Love the picture of the rain drops on the cactus! And the beautiful birds, of course!
That’s my favorite photo, too. Yes, it feels good to be home!
I am happy the birds welcomed you (and a seed block) home
Me too!
Glad your feathered friends have not abandoned you! I did really like the photo with the raindrops on the cactus spines.
That’s my favorite too. I’m so thankful my birds waited for me!
It is always great to get home after being away for a while. It definitely looks like you were missed!
Thanks! It does feel good to be home.
I am sure Mr and Mrs Red were chattering to each other about how glad they were to have you back. 😉
I like the fluffy quail photo the best. But always like photos of Mr Red too!
Thanks! I think all the birds are excited to have free food!
Yes! 😊
Wonderful photos!
Thanks!
Beautiful photos, especially the ones with the quail. It’s rare to see those. The weather here is holding steady in the 50s, but it’s about to change very soon.
I’m glad you enjoyed my photos. We have mostly quail here, plus doves. They are our most common birds.
Nice! I can’t remember the last time I saw one, so it was great to see them in your photos.
Top photo of red on the cactus!! And weather got chilly here past few days
I can never choose a favorite photo — they’re all lovely captures. Glad you are home, safe and sound. Maybe the birds will write you a thank-you letter for feeding them, again? 😃
Thanks so much! The birds do seem happy to have the bird seed back.
