A photo of Red and Mrs. that I selected for my first homework assignment for my workshop.
Vacation time has come to an end. Now I’m back home and I have to say, “There’s no place like home.” At the end of our vacation, we were both so looking forward to being in our home with our own creature comforts.
I have a ton of doctor’s appointments including seeing my orthopedic surgeon for one last look at my ankle. Three appointments at an imaging place for ankle, bone density and mammogram. Then there’s a colonoscopy plus a trip to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned. I’m trying to fit everything in before I fly to California to take care of my daughter post shoulder surgery. I postponed some of these appointments due to my emergency ankle surgery. That was enough for me to deal with.
When I return from taking care of my daughter, I’ll be bringing home Waffles the pug. My daughter won’t be able to take care of him for awhile. So, I’ll be taking care of Waffy for a month or so.
My first photography class is Thursday night via zoom. The class I took from January through May was all online. We had reading, assignments, etc. But I never interacted with anyone but the professor. This workshop has five students who have taken it for two to eight years. I’m the newbie. It will be nice to see what other people are working on and to get feedback from students and the professor.
The first assignment was to take a new photo, or select one you’ve previously taken and write about it. The prompt is: “I want you to consider and relate to us in class, why you took this particular photo. In other words, what was your motivation?”
That’s easy. It’s Red and the Mrs. Of course I was motivated to take their photo!
I’ve had some Red and Mrs. sightings since I’ve returned home. I’ve taken a few photos, but they stop by one at a time. I like the photo above for the photography class because they’re both in it and I can introduce my cardinal couple to the class. The photo also tells a story of Red taking off and Mrs. wanting to know where he was going and what time he’ll be back!
What do you like best about Fall and the end of Summer?

I love the feel of new beginnings and change. Crisper air. Really good apples. Sweater weather
Well, we are not there yet. Low of 75 high of 95 degrees. But I do love that feeling of crisp air. It’s coming soon.
I wore a jacket last night. Heaven
Ha! I didn’t even need a jacket at the beach. I usually forget to bring one with me because it’s so hot here. The beach can get cold in the mornings and evenings. This year I brought one and didn’t need it!
My guess is we will get one more spell of hot weather before it settles down
That’s how it always works.
It’s good to be home. Very nice introductory photo Elizabeth.
It does feel good to be home. Thank you for your thoughts on my photo.
My pleasure dear friend
😊
There is so much going on in you life, but it seems you’ll have a nice balance of necessity and fun. The photo of the cardinals is great, the missus face say it all! And, the shifting weather is the best part of the season.. the crisp air, comfy sweaters, and warm tea in the morning are all such delights.
I’m glad you like the photo I selected. I think it will be a nice way to introduce my photography interest to the group. I’m waiting for a bit of cooler weather. All my upcoming appointments are giving me anxiety!
If you happen to have a free day next week, Greer AZ is expected to have it’s first frost of the season on Wed the 17th, so next week and weekend will have stunning fall colors up north… just in case you need a distraction from the anxiety, it would be a fantastic photo op. 🍁🍂 Hang in there!
That sounds ideal. I’ve never been to Greer, so maybe we’ll make it there the following weekend. Have you been to Williams? My husband is interested in going there.
Greer, Pinetop, the Mogollon Rim and that entire area is beautiful this time of year. I consider Williams a pass-through city on the way the Grand Canyon, so haven’t spent much time there. I know they have a drive-through bear sanctuary, but I don’t know too much else about it.
Thanks! I was hoping Williams would be more foresty. Pinetop is where I fell and broke my ankle our first day there!
From what I’ve seen, it’s pretty barren, but it may be worth exploring. 😊
👍🏼
Glad your home EA but it sounds like there’s a lot on your plate in the coming weeks and months. You are one busy person suddenly! Love the photo you chose and I hope the class goes well.
It’s the suddenly busy that stresses me out — after weeks of beach walking and watching dolphins.
You have a full calendar, Elizabeth! I’m looking forward to learning from you as you take this class and also seeing some pictures of Waffles! Hope all your appointments go well!
Thanks! This will be an interesting class. We’ll have group projects, plus share our own photography. The professor said the group is very supportive of each other. My daughter is ordering all sorts of things for Waffles including a crate and a dog stairway so he can get on our bed!
Great capture!
Thanks! It is definitely one of my favorite photos I’ve taken this summer.
Welcome home! Busy days ahead for you!
Waffles is coming to be with you for a while! I’m excited for this. He is a hoot and a half. As for what I love about fall, how about everything? After our buggy humid pollen-y summer, I am grooving on cooler temps and being outside. Good luck with the appointments, may you find yourself in good health.
I’m hoping for good health. I avoid doctors mostly because I’m afraid they’ll find something wrong with me! Yes, I’ll have fun with Waffles. Although he’s nine and getting to be an old man. He has to wear a hood out of netting because he has a bad habit of putting everything in his mouth.
Welcome home! Busy days ahead for you!
Busier than I like! But it’s good to be home.
It’s not hard to imagine the missus pointing to a watch and saying “Yo Red, make sure you’re back on time!” Ha, ha, a great first shot to take to class. Ha, ha.
Thanks! Mrs. expression says it all.
You’re fortunate to have the Mr. and Mrs. on a regular basis. I’ve had my mammogram, bone density and colonoscopy (ugh). Happy a colonoscopy is only once every 5 years. I may opt to never have another one! Glad you are back home with your creature comforts.
Thanks! I am anxious to get all the doctor appointments over. Then go take care of my daughter. It’s nice to be home!
All the best for the doctor appointments and with Waffy coming to stay for a bit! Love the cardinals. Can’t wait to hear more about the photography class!
I’m nervous about the photography class. But the professor said, “We are all on the same learning curve, just on different point along the way.” I’m excited for Waffy, too.
Wishing you the best with doc appointments. I know Waffles will be a loving minute very minute, like a pug!
I’m excited to have Waffles and it will be cool enough to take him for walks.
It will an interesting class. I hope the photo isn’t too hard to work with
I tonight’s class is to introduce ourselves and we won’t be doing anything with the photos we share. Then we will be assigned new projects to work on. I’m a little nervous…
Nervous is good
👍🏼
I’m sure it feels good to be home, and I love your narrative for your great photo of Red and the Mrs. 🙂
It’s good to be home. 💜
I love this time of year in the Midwest. We can finally open the windows and get fresh air in our house.
You do have a lot of upcoming appointments. But dang, that ankle of yours really put you behind….it always reminds me (us) That Health Is Wealth!! I hope you get through them all with Gold Stars and that you can then help your daughter—-which is very sweet by the way, but obviously, it’s a pleasure for you.
We moved four years ago and we finally settled in with a primary doctor that we love. So, now I have all the appointments to catch up on. Also, the ankle put me back on the appointments. It seemed too difficult for me to do them on a knee scooter or walker!
