Red looking majestic in our backyard tree.
Now that I’m back home and have my camera, I’ve been taking photos when something interesting pops up in my backyard. From my cardinal couple, quail, finches and roadrunner, there’s been lots of action. Throw in a few chipmunks and I’ve taken a lot of pictures!

I’m impressed with this chipmunk’s balance on two legs.

I think this sweet bird is a female house finch?

This roadrunner actually laid down in our yard, waiting for prey. He had his eye on the chipmunk but left without any luck.

Mrs. staring at me taking while I took her picture.

Red found himself fending off quail to get a bite of birdseed.

Another shot of the roadrunner. Isn’t he beautiful?
Do you have a favorite of my backyard buddy pics? If so, which one?

The roadrunner looks kind of mean. Beautiful photos.
Roadrunners are predators. I think he looks prehistoric. I wasn’t sure if he was laying down to cool off or ready to pounce on one of the birds or chipmunks.
Love the Roadrunner, wish we had them but …. I guess my favourites are the Pheasant or Partridges, they can be SO funny 🙂
Thanks. The roadrunner has surprising color by his eyes. I bet we have pheasants, but not in the yard. We don’t have partridges.
Oh wow, great photos! I’ve been in Phoenix my entire life and have never seen a chipmunk, so that’s really neat to see.
Really? We have a little family of them here. But two years ago, I kept seeing one run by with white fuzz. It turned out he destroyed a chaise lounge, going under the cover and creating a huge hole in it.
The chipmunk is very impressive.
Thanks! They are cute and I’m surprised they can stand up on their hind legs.
I’ve seen pictures of them in this pose before as well.
😊
Quails and roadrunners! These are exotic backyard visitors to me…
💕
The roadrunner doesn’t come by very often, so that’s exotic to me. I have dozens of quail at the same time in my yard. All the babies are grown but they are still with their parents.
Red doesn’t look so big compared to the Quail. Maybe they put in his place. Ha, ha.
He’s really a small bird. But with a big ego! I introduced Red and Mrs. to my new photography class last night. There are five other photographers who are all amazing!
I had a big surprise here a couple weeks ago—a roadrunner near my home! I’ve never heard of one this far north. The nearest I’ve ever seen one before was Albuquerque.
That’s exciting! We had more in Palm Springs than Scottsdale. I didn’t see roadrunners here for a couple years.
The Roadrunner is a beautiful bird. A great lot of photos Elizabeth
That’s a big compliment coming from you!
All great photos, but the chipmunk is cute, and the finch is adorable. 🙂
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed them.
Oh my stars! So many scene-stealer shots! Thank you, Elizabeth! 🥰
Thank you! 💕
Beautiful photos!
I appreciate that so much!
Your backyard photos capture so much life and stillness at once, Elizabeth. Chipmunk standing up is too cute ❤️
Thanks for your kind words. 😊
I sort of love the chipmunk
👍🏼
The chipmunk is my favorite. I love his pose. Great job!
He’s a character and stays like that for many minutes!
💕
