While I’m resting and recovering from a bout of COVID-25, I discovered writing isn’t that easy. My head feels stuffy and thick. I’m doing better sitting inside the casita photographing my bird buddies. Instead of focusing on my cardinal couple Red and Mrs., I felt it was time for the ordinary guys to have their day in the sun.
The photo above is a House Finch munching on a sunflower seed. (Please feel free to correct my bird identification.) I like the wings of a dove behind him.

Papa quail and a teen in front of a Barrel Cactus.

The baby quails are growing into awkward looking teens.

A House Finch on top of a Barrel Cactus.

House Finch on Beavertail Cactus statue.

I liked the angle of the finch and a different cactus.

We have an abundance of White-Winged Doves. Here’s one in a tree.
One not so ordinary guy:

Last but not least, our resident Roadrunner, getting ready make his move.
Do you have a favorite bird photo? If so, which one?
What exciting plans do you have for the weekend?

I’m sorry that you’ve made friends with Covid yet again EA 🙁
Love the road runner. They always remind me of mini dinosaurs. Take care of yourself.
I’m packing the moving Pod this weekend, then it’s cleaning…yuck 😉
My husband started with a sore throat on Sunday and got so sick quickly. We knew it wasn’t a normal summer cold. He got out of bed yesterday, thankfully. I was asymptomatic until yesterday. Now it’s my turn!
I bet you’ll feel such an sense of accomplishment when you get to the cleaning stage! Especially when that is done.
Had to be that wedding I suspect?
There are boxes in every room so until those are in the pod cleaning is futile. I wonder how big the dust bunnies are going to be hiding in the corners 🙂
I think it was flying to and from the wedding. We were delayed for hours on the way up in a packed waiting area. The wedding was outdoors and there was lots of space between us and other guests so I don’t think it was the wedding itself. Good luck packing the pod and going after dust bunnies!
I like that photo with the bird wing in the background, best. Nice catch.
Thank you. That’s one of my favorites too. I like the wing in the background, plus the sparrow is really in sharp focus, too.
I love your quails… but a roadrunner is exotic to this Yankee so I’ll choose him.
😊
The roadrunner always surprises me. They were more common in Palm Springs. I hadn’t seen them in Arizona except for once and now lots of times this summer.
The teen in front of the barrel cactus! COVID 25-first time I have heard this-lol.
The teens are so awkward but cute in their own way. The doctor we had a zoom call with called it COVID 25. That’s the first time I heard it. The good news is it’s a bad virus, but he said it’s no longer deadly like in the beginning.
I have noticed a few snivels but I am more on alert with my husband as he has cancer, metastatic and I watch him closely. That was indeed an interesting time. Interesting in that some colleges are just asking some people to return to onsite work as is the federal government. It has been over for awhile now. I just learned this by reading. I seem to be behind this news.
My husband got so sick this time, he didn’t leave his bed for four days. I was really worried, so it was good to hear from the doctor that this new variant isn’t life threatening. I’m sorry for your husband. Our daughter in law had colon cancer surgery two years ago. We would worry about her being exposed to COVID, too.
Thank you. We move forward. Everyday is a lesson lately in something. I learned from my husband’s blog that I do think too much or overanalyze what I say for social media and to people. What is really important I learned is how they make you feel which is why I keep my pugs and Mike tight. A few friends I let in but work associates and even friends come and go. The important ones remain. Hoping for the best for all of us.
👍🏼
You might think of them as the ‘ordinary’ guys but your photos are extraordinary – as always! Sending hugs…hope you’re feeling better very soon! 🥰
Such a sweet comment that is making me feel better 💕💕
Much love! 🥰❤️🥰
🥰
Just so you know, Covid-25 is the name of a novel and tv show. https://www.amazon.ca/COVID-25-became-killer-James-Phillips/dp/B08J1Y6Y97
I hope you feel better soon.
Ha! I didn’t know that. It’s what our doctor called our recent infection.
Maybe he was exaggerating for effect! 😊
Thank you for sharing a photo of the roadrunner. It’s my first time to see one.
Wow! I’m glad I could share that with you. They were a common sight in our home of 35 years in Southern California. Now a rare thing to see in Arizona, but one seems to like our back yard and we see it fairly often.
I love the roadrunner. Your “sparrow” is the female house finch. I’ll be busy working on writing for my critique group this weekend, and then doing a reconnaissance for next weekend’s plant walk I’m leading.
Thanks for the bird identity. I wasn’t sure between the House Sparrow and female House Finch! I was asking for help on it. I appreciate it.
And so sorry to hear you’re having a bout of COVID! 😢
It’s a pain but not long lasting.
Aww, glad to see your bird buddies are coming through in a time of need. Ha, ha.
Definitely, they’re keeping me busy. I got a visit today from four hawks. I’ll post photos on Monday.
Sparrow on cactus. My goddaughters bridal shower!! Yay!!
That sounds like so much fun to go to a bridal shower for your goddaughter! Have fun!
I find it interesting that you get some of the same birds we get here. Arizona is so much hotter than the Midwest. I always love your bird pictures.
Thanks! They are different birds than we had in Palm Springs, which is only four hours away and in the same desert.
I hope you’re feeling better! Love the bird photos – wow! You live in a casita with amazing views! I believe the road runner is my favorite as I’ve never seen one before (except on cartoons)! Beep Beep!
Thanks for all the kind words! Today I had a visit by four huge hawks. They were doing something I’ve never seen before. Panting in the heat! I’ll post photos on Monday.
OMG! Panting in the heat? I can’t wait to see the photos! Wow – you have a plethora of birds there and such interesting ones!
It looked like panting go me. I had to look it up and it’s true, they do pant!
WOW!!! Learn something new everyday!
You do have lots of lovely birds to photograph. I hope you feel better soon. Hugs and prayers for you.
Thank you! I hope to feel better soon.
You’re most welcome. 🤗
☺️
Love the Road Runner. COVID-25, I didn’t know people were still getting COVID. Did you test yourself at home with normal cold symptoms?
My husband was as sick as I’ve ever seen him. He couldn’t get out of bed, had a high fever and sore throat. I bought a test for him and it was positive within seconds. We had a zoom call with our doctor’s office. The doctor said I didn’t need to test, but to assume I’d get it too. He said COVID was spiking in Arizona because people were traveling. Also that people know they have COVID and get on planes to fly anyway!
Agree, I think people travel knowing they don’t feel well, but to be honest… we did that before COVID when we had a cold. If we have minor cold symptoms, we aren’t going to test ourselves for COVID constantly. This is a challenge. So, sorry you both have been sick, no fun, for sure. Also, this isn’t just about traveling. It’s going to the grocery store or shopping, you can be around sick people and not know it. This is life, right.
I think you’re 100 percent correct. Our doctor said unless symptoms are severe people don’t test. So they don’t know they have Covid.
I’m so sorry you’ve been sick; hopefully by now you’re on the mend? Seems like I get ill after traveling too.
I love the Ordinary Guys, but Papa Quail is the most handsome dude.
We are both better from Covid now. But I have a lingering cough. The quail was favorite until the cardinals moved in.
