I loved how this quail kept watch over his family. His wife and a baby are below him. There were three other babies who were very bold and not close to his watch but mingling with doves.

Red and Mrs. have been visiting each day, but not at the same time. I’m waiting to see some fledglings.
Mrs. enjoying some birdseed. Thanks to photographer Bushboy, I did return to a mix of birdseed rather than using straight sunflower seeds. He warned that sunflower seeds are not as healthy for my bird buddies. But it seems Red and Mrs. pick out the sunflower seeds from the mix.

Not a bird buddy, but a Desert Spiny Lizard found a bit of shade next to a planter.

The baby Quail are so cute. They will go for the sunflower seeds first as they are used to them. Once those are all gone they should eat the others seeds as well.

Wow, you have a whole show in your back yard. I love the baby quail picture. When we were leaving Bend last weekend I saw a quail on top of a rock. Your picture makes me wonder whether he was watching out for a brood below! Beautiful pictures, Elizabeth!

I’m a big fan of my yard lizards… but they aren’t nearly as colorful as your Desert Spiny Lizard.
We have some little boring lizards too. They have very long tails. All our lizards in Palm Springs were tailless, thanks to our cat!
I like how lively your yard is. We had a rabbit visitor yesterday (very rare) a mule deer, the usual rodents and bird. The hummingbird feeders are starting to draw quite the crowd! Soon we’ll be going through at least a half-gallon a day or more.
That sounds like fun and a nice variety of visitors. I gave up on the hummingbird feeder when a Gila woodpecker attached himself to it each day and drained it!
Great photos, Elizabeth, and the lizard at the end was a fun ending to the selection.
