This chipmunk stood on his hind legs for a long, long time. I thought it was interesting as here I am sitting, laying down, trying to pass time with a broken ankle. By the time you read this, I could be done with my surgery today and headed home! The doctor said it’s a four to six-week recovery. We shall see! I’ll take all your positive thoughts and prayers for the next bit of time.
Unfortunately, I had to cancel our trip for next weekend to the Bay Area to see my kids, and attend a wedding of one of my close friend’s daughters. My daughter is a bridesmaid. I hated calling and telling of my unfortunate walk where I fell and broke my fibula. But it had to be done. On the bright side, I was able to get a refund for the entire price of our airline tickets and hotel. Thank goodness for a bit of good news. I booked the trip in January and was so looking forward to it.

I can’t believe I got this shot. It’s of Mrs. mid flight to meet up with her sweetheart.

Here’s Mrs. with another friend.

As I sit and sit and sit, I watched another bright red cardinal enter the backyard. Mrs. and Red were hanging out together. Red took off like a bullet chasing the other guy. Mrs. stayed close by where I got took photos of her.
Who is that other guy? And is there jealousy between the cardinals? Do they have territories and not welcome competition? It appears so. Red came back a few hours later.
I’m so thrilled I’m in for surgery two days after my diagnosis. The doctor was extremely worried about how unstable my ankle is. Also, that the bone could totally break and the tendons go. I’m trying my best to stay still and off my feet.
Any predictions on how long my recovery will be?

Hoping all goes really well EA! Just take each day and follow directions…and enjoy the wildlife! How fun to have on site entertainment while you recover 🙂
Thanks, Deb. I’m home post surgery and all went well. I’ll spend a few weeks resting, elevating and icing. The surgery center staff and facility were amazing. It was small and the doctors, anesthesiologist, nurses and other staff were so cohesive and you could tell enjoyed each other and their jobs.
So good to hear EA! Keep us updated 🙂
Thank you. The pain block is still in effect, so it’s been an easy day so far.
The bird coming in to land is wonderful. I enjoy finding a lucky photo on downloading
Thanks! It’s a thrill when I see the unexpected photo. It doesn’t happen very often.
Good news on the surgery front. Glad you’re able to take care of so soon. Love the photos. You’re right, love the one of the Mrs. coming in for a landing. So very cool. And yes, the story in my head had Red getting a little red under the collar too. He doesn’t like having a little competition. Ha, ha.
I like “red under the collar.” I hope Red doesn’t miss me too much while I’m recuperating 😉. Surgery went well and so far no pain — thanks to a pain block and pain pills. I started reading “Writing Down the Bones” a few days ago, plus started on a manuscript I’ve been thinking about for years. I’ll make the most of this time when I get through the worst of it.
Sending positive thoughts on your recovery!
Thanks!
My gosh, where were you walking? I haven’t been on WP for a few days, so surprised to hear you broke your ankle. Glad DR could take you quickly. You have the nice Memorial weekend to rest. Feel better.
I’m so relieved the doctor got me in so quickly. The fibula bone I fractured is a thin long bone. She wanted me in immediately, because she said it was bowing and ready to completely break and then the tendons would go too! What a relief to have it over. We were on a belated Mother’s Day treat to the White Mountains of Arizona, staying in a cabin on a lake. I fell on a steep gravely bank walking around the lake.
It sure is good she got you in. Well, we have a nice long weekend to rest and recuperate.
I will be taking advantage of it — and the next four to six weeks after that. But I hope after this long weekend to be able to write, read and work on Photoshop.
Get well soon! Love your pictures!
Thank you for the get well wishes and I’m glad you’re enjoying my photos!
I predict you’ll be hopping around in no time (on both feet). I hope your surgery goes well and your recovery even better.
Thanks so much. We left at 5 a.m. this morning and I’m back home by 9 a.m. Now for a few weeks of rest.
Sending you healing thoughts and lots of prayers my dear friend. I hope the ankle mends soon. It shouldn’t take more than 6 weeks to knit the bones properly. Hugs 🤗
Thanks! Six weeks is what the doctor said. That’s not too long of a time to heal.
Remember to keep the intake of calcium high. It helps
Thanks! The doctor also prescribed D3.
Very essential too
Hope by the time you’re reading this the surgery went well and you’re kicked back relaxing… being waited on hand and foot. So to speak.
😉
Thanks! We left at 5 a.m. and I was back on the sofa, icing and elevating my ankle, by 9 a.m. My husband is doing pretty well. He even made two trips to Costco to prepare!
Wow, that was fast!
Glad you have a good house nurse. Mine is horrible.
🤣
Mine is pretty good, except when I sent him to get all the post op meds. He said he was going to skip the list called “As Needed” because he didn’t think I’d need them. Like pain meds?!
Mine’s just the opposite, he loves to go run errands and pick things up but never checks on me at home or makes me a meal.
🤣
I totally understand that. There is a sense of accomplishment of checking things off a list when running errands. My husband is a good cook. But tonight he’s getting me my favorite Chinese takeout. I think he’s getting worn out, plus it will be a treat for me.
I’ve been married 41 years and he’s never cooked for me.
Ever.
🥴
Ha! Congrats on the 40 years, and you guys go out to eat a lot, so there’s that. We celebrate 40 years this summer. I cooked all the time for a few years without him cooking once. Then he cooked me stroganoff that was amazing. “I didn’t know you could cook,” I said. “I didn’t want to embarrass you,” he answered.
My guy’s idea of cooking is heating up a can of soup.
Sending all my best thoughts and prayers for your surgery and recovery! Those are fantastic shot. The one of Mrs. Red in flight? Wow!
Thank you. I was so impressed with doctors and staff. I wish the shot of Mrs. in flight was a with better lighting, but I’m thrilled I caught the action.
What a bummer, but how fortunate to get into surgery so quickly. Time spent recuperating will be time well spent, no matter how many weeks it is. Do it once, do it right.
Thanks! I so agree with your comment about doing it right. I started a new manuscript prior to surgery that I intend to work on. Plus stay off my feet, icing and resting.
Good luck with the surgery and YES that is an amazing picture of the Mrs coming in for a landing.
Thanks! So far the recovery is doing fine. But, the pain block hasn’t worn off yet. I was excited to see that photo of Mrs. I have been trying to take birds in flight. But that one was completely unexpected.
Sending love!!! You were on my mind this morning, my friend. Thank you for posting the update — and for sharing spectacular photos!!! 🥰❤️🥰
Thank you! I loved the staff, so caring and their obvious passion for their jobs was clear. I fell like I made it to the other side, but more other sides to come!
Keep us posted! Love you! 🥰
Will do! Thanks for your friendship and love 💕
🥰❤️🥰
I’m praying for a swift recovery(six weeks or less!) recovery for you. I’m also thankful you were able to get in so quickly and that you didn’t create further damage—which could have happened.
I’m so sorry you are missing out on this wedding; sounds like friends who are family for you. I’m sure they understand, but knowing how my dear friends are with my girls, I know they would be so upset to miss the big day.
That is an amazing shot of the Mrs!
Thank you for all your wonderful and supportive comments! Yes, these friends are from my youngest’s preschool days and they live not too far from each other now. The mom and I are very close. She convinced me to start this blog! The husband came to our rescue multiple times. Like when I was taking care of my dad post shoulder surgery and my husband and kids were out of town. I told Dad not to move while I picked up his meds. He tried to get up and I found him on the floor. The husband drove over and carried him back in the recliner! Im sorry to miss the wedding, but that is life. I’m healing and resting! Also hoping for six weeks recovery! Thank you for your prayers! 💕
They sound like the dearest of friends.
Rest up! ❤️🙏
Thanks! They are special 😊
Glad to hear the good news, Elizabeth, and the photos are incredible! Sorry about your trip though. Maybe start planning a new one? 🙂 Take care and rest up!
Thanks! I’m glad to have surgery so quickly and am now on the road to healing. We have our annual trip in a couple months to Summerland which is next to Santa Barbara that I’m looking forward to. I’m supposed to be good as new by then!
Glad the surgery went well and they were able to get you in so quickly. I hope there are no complications and recovery is super fast!
Thank you. I was so relieved to get in quickly. The doctor was worried the bone would completely break and the tendons, too. That’s why got in right away. I’m hoping for a speedy recovery, too!
