Moon rising at Carpinteria State Beach.
We’re enjoying our beach time. We start the day with a morning walk and end with the same. In the evenings, we visit the beach with our towels and chairs. After our walk, my husband swims while I do my favorite thing — read a book at the beach.
Every day there is something new to see. Here are a few more pics:

I’ve complained about Mexican food in Arizona. I haven’t found anything with the same flavors I’m used to in SoCal. This is a dinner prepared by our friends in Carpinteria. Chicken mole, rice, beans and sauteed peppers. Delicious! We’re going back for leftovers!

Low tide standing near Kevin Costner’s estate. I’ve never seen the tide so low that we could walk on this part of the beach. It’s usually under water. Around the corner of the point in the distance is our beach. Well, the beach a few blocks from our VRBO.

This is the view looking back from Costner’s estate at the beach where we take our daily walks.

More incredible Mexican food. Al Pastor tacos from Kim’s Liquor a mile from our VRBO. What’s interesting, is most liquor/convenience stores have kitchens with amazing Mexican food to go. Maybe I should let Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives know about this?
My daughter once said her favorite comfort food she grew up with was Mexican food (which I do not make.) I thought she’d say one of my specialities like pan friend sole, chicken and dumplings or oxtail soup. Nope.
There are certain flavors and cuisines served in different areas of the country and the world that we enjoy and love.
What’s your is your favorite Mexican food or comfort food?

How fun that you got to explore a new part of the beach! I don’t eat a lot of Mexican dishes. If I do it tends to be a veggie version of enchiladas- I think of my moms spaghetti sauce as comfort food. Rich, thick, full of garlic and cooked over 2 days time very slowly in a cast iron pot.
Yum! I love spaghetti. That’s one of my all time favorite foods. My husband’s uncle is from Sicily and makes the best meat sauce. I’ve asked him for his recipe or how he makes it, but he’s never shared it.
I think every day should begin and end with a beach walk … sounds delightful! Ha ha, enjoy!
Thanks! That’s our motto and we’re sticking to it!
Beautiful photos and the Mexican food looks delicious! All the good Mexican food places closed during the 2008 recession, and the final blow was COVID shutdowns in 2020. It’s such a bummer. I haven’t been in 15 years, but it looks like Backyard Taco is still around… though no longer out of a backyard shack haha! That one may be worth a shot.
My favorite comfort food is a chicken, rice casserole, and cream of mushroom soup my mom sometimes when I was growing up. Yum!
So it’s not just me that’s unhappy with the Mexican food. We went to the Tee Pee and it was better than others, but not worth a 45-minute drive. I’ll look into Backyard Taco. My mom made that casserole with wild rice. Yum.
It’s pretty disappointing all around. I think I’ve gone out for Mexican food 4 times in the last 12 years and it’s always been a grave disappointment. It’s really unfortunate, and I don’t understand why that’s the case.
It is strange. It’s not that far from SoCal with delicious Mexican food. Also there’s a large Latino population. Maybe we’ll get new Mexican restaurants soon?
I hope so! The landscape has been awful for years, though, so I’m not holding my breath.
👍🏼
I have a HUGE appetite now for my favorite tacos…for breakfast? I dunno, but sometime soon I need my faves – tacos with onion and cilantro only. So good! Thanks for taking us along and for all the visual – and edible – delights, Elizabeth! 🥰
I will have to get my fill of tacos before we leave! I’m glad you enjoyed the photos.
🥰☀️🥰
💕💕💕
Love the video. Sand pipers are fun to watch.
Yes, reading on the beach is wonderful. Thats what I do. Take a long walk along the water then read until I take another walk. 😊
Your food sounds and looks yummy! Mexican food is my fav too and something our whole family can agree on.
Yes, our family can agree on Mexican food, too. I love to read on the beach so much that I got RX sunglasses with readers!
Good deal! 🙂
😎
Thanks for letting me visit the beach vicariously through you. My favorite Mexican food is a plain ole bean and cheese burrito with chips and guacamole on the side. Whenever I try a Mexican restaurant, I decide if I’ll return by the beans and the guac. I definitely don’t make beans as good as I can get them out, but my guac is better than any I’ve found anywhere. It is just hard to time it because the avocados are finicky. 😂 I do like a good taco, though, and your photo made me good and hungry!
I totally understand why you judge Mexican food by beans and the guac. One of my telltale signs is the salsa. We went to a Mexican restaurant recommended by a friend and the salsa was like tomato soup! Never again.
Beautiful photos, especially of the moon rising. I’m glad you’re vacation is going well
Thank you! I wish it was longer. But it’s a nice break. We can always come back.
You’re welcome. Yes, you can always go back. A shorter vacation has the advantage that it doesn’t gets boring
True!

I love Mexican food too and, fortunately, it’s plentiful where we live. Currently we are on the road and staying in an area where there are tons of fabulous Asian restaurants. I’m enjoying them but I’m looking forward to enjoying Mexican food again when we get home.
I love Asian food. Cantonese, Sushi, and the last few years, Korean. I was introduced to Korean food from a new friend of Korean descent plus a restaurant near my kids in Oakland written up in the NY Times for the best kimchee pancakes.
My college boyfriend immigrated from Hong Kong and his family owned a restaurant in Seattle’s Chinatown. My favorite Chinese comfort foods are congee and chow fun. What type of Asian food is your favorite?
I love that you are walking morning and night. What a great vacation ritual! And eating well too. It all sounds fantastic, Elizabeth!
I look forward to this trip every summer. It’s a great escape from the heat where it’s tough to be outside. Yesterday we saw dolphins on our morning walk.
What lovely photos! That looks like a wonderful place to visit and eat! Tacos are my favorite food.
Thank you. We have rented a small cottage here for four summers. We used to go to Laguna Beach but started coming to Santa Barbara when my son went to UCSB.
Wow! You are right up the street from Kevin’s house! Have you ever seen him? Love your pics, and the pace of your vacation, so relaxing. And the food…so good. I love our local Mexican restaurant, Luna’s, we can walk there, enjoy a great meal and margarita, and walk home, no worries. Hugs, C
We used to walk to the Original Las Casuelas from our Palm Springs home. That’s so nice! I saw Kevin on his deck one day, but that’s it. It’s great vacation. I look forward to being here all year long.
😋 yummy
