More Beach Views

Sandpipers lined the beach this morning. I don’t have any quail at the beach, like at home, but there are plenty of sandpipers, pelicans and gulls.

What’s your is your favorite Mexican food or comfort food?

  1. How fun that you got to explore a new part of the beach! I don’t eat a lot of Mexican dishes. If I do it tends to be a veggie version of enchiladas- I think of my moms spaghetti sauce as comfort food. Rich, thick, full of garlic and cooked over 2 days time very slowly in a cast iron pot.

    • Yum! I love spaghetti. That’s one of my all time favorite foods. My husband’s uncle is from Sicily and makes the best meat sauce. I’ve asked him for his recipe or how he makes it, but he’s never shared it.

  2. Beautiful photos and the Mexican food looks delicious! All the good Mexican food places closed during the 2008 recession, and the final blow was COVID shutdowns in 2020. It’s such a bummer. I haven’t been in 15 years, but it looks like Backyard Taco is still around… though no longer out of a backyard shack haha! That one may be worth a shot.

My favorite comfort food is a chicken, rice casserole, and cream of mushroom soup my mom sometimes when I was growing up. Yum!

    • So it’s not just me that’s unhappy with the Mexican food. We went to the Tee Pee and it was better than others, but not worth a 45-minute drive. I’ll look into Backyard Taco. My mom made that casserole with wild rice. Yum.

  3. I have a HUGE appetite now for my favorite tacos…for breakfast? I dunno, but sometime soon I need my faves – tacos with onion and cilantro only. So good! Thanks for taking us along and for all the visual – and edible – delights, Elizabeth! 🥰

  4. Love the video. Sand pipers are fun to watch.
Yes, reading on the beach is wonderful. Thats what I do. Take a long walk along the water then read until I take another walk. 😊
Your food sounds and looks yummy! Mexican food is my fav too and something our whole family can agree on.

  5. Thanks for letting me visit the beach vicariously through you. My favorite Mexican food is a plain ole bean and cheese burrito with chips and guacamole on the side. Whenever I try a Mexican restaurant, I decide if I’ll return by the beans and the guac. I definitely don’t make beans as good as I can get them out, but my guac is better than any I’ve found anywhere. It is just hard to time it because the avocados are finicky. 😂 I do like a good taco, though, and your photo made me good and hungry!

    • I totally understand why you judge Mexican food by beans and the guac. One of my telltale signs is the salsa. We went to a Mexican restaurant recommended by a friend and the salsa was like tomato soup! Never again.

  6. I love Mexican food too and, fortunately, it’s plentiful where we live. Currently we are on the road and staying in an area where there are tons of fabulous Asian restaurants. I’m enjoying them but I’m looking forward to enjoying Mexican food again when we get home.

    • I love Asian food. Cantonese, Sushi, and the last few years, Korean. I was introduced to Korean food from a new friend of Korean descent plus a restaurant near my kids in Oakland written up in the NY Times for the best kimchee pancakes.

My college boyfriend immigrated from Hong Kong and his family owned a restaurant in Seattle’s Chinatown. My favorite Chinese comfort foods are congee and chow fun. What type of Asian food is your favorite?

  7. Wow! You are right up the street from Kevin’s house! Have you ever seen him? Love your pics, and the pace of your vacation, so relaxing. And the food…so good. I love our local Mexican restaurant, Luna’s, we can walk there, enjoy a great meal and margarita, and walk home, no worries. Hugs, C

    • We used to walk to the Original Las Casuelas from our Palm Springs home. That’s so nice! I saw Kevin on his deck one day, but that’s it. It’s great vacation. I look forward to being here all year long.
