The big news on Thursday was Elon Musk offering to buy Twitter at a 38% premium. What will happen?
Twitter employees were given a day off to rest last week because of the stress of learning Musk bought 9.2% of their company and was offered a seat on the board. Imagine how they felt Thursday!
During the brief time the world thought Musk was going to be on the board of Twitter, he tweeted some funny stuff including this:
Musk said in a Ted Talk yesterday that he doesn’t have an economic motive but believes in free speech. I read that people at Babylon Bee, a satirical site, were contacted by Musk before he purchased shares. He asked if they had been banned and why.
Personally I’m against censorship and banning people unless they are breaking the law. I’m all for free speech.
I think Musk is one of those polarizing figures who people love or love to hate. I have taken the temperature of my immediate family to attest to this fact.

Even though I own a Tesla, I really dislike Musk. He is all for “freedom of speech” until it doesn’t please him. I, for one, am happy that a certain someone was banned from Twitter a while ago and I hope that continues. Freedom of speech is one thing, hate speech and disinformation is another. Anyway, the true freedom is based on government censorship. Private businesses can have any restrictions they want.
So if Musk takes over, he can reinstate anyone he wants because it’s a private company. Who decides what is disinformation? It happens on all sides. Thank you for expressing your point of view.
Yes, it’s a private company and he can do what he wants, within legal limits. I don’t remember who said that we are all entitled to our own opinions but not our own facts. To me, disinformation is nonfactual. And, yes, everyone (I don’t like the term “all sides” since it implies that we’re talking sides here, and I’m not) cherry picks their facts, but they still need to be verifiable facts (IMHO 🙂 ).
I agree with you 100%. What I mean by saying “both sides” is that there is a lot of disinformation circulated no matter what news source you use. I have to read a variety of publications and news sites to verify what’s what.

I think sometimes people say they believe in free speech until they find their own POV and ideology being challenged. When it becomes too personal it seems their feelings may change? I participate very little in SM. Most of the time it’s not a place I want to be.
I miss the days when people had calm discussions and could share their points of views. I agree with you completely!

What will @elonmusk bring to the twitter platform? An edit button? First Amendment rights? Neutrality? I have no idea. Buy I too miss calm discussions even ones that conflict with my own ideology! It’ll be an interesting transformation! Hugs, C
Twitter board rejected his offer today and put a poison pill in place that they’ll dilute shares if he buys more than 15%. Musk said there’s a plan B, but who knows what that is? If he dumps his shares, the stock plummets and the board is open to lawsuits for not practicing their fiduciary duty. Maybe someone with a better offer comes forward? It’s a soap opera.
