I was wondering what I was up to five years ago. I looked at my blog and this is what I found:
My husband called to me from the bedroom. “The bobcat is here!”
“Where?” I asked scanning my view past the fence in the backyard.
“Right here.”
Wow. The bobcat was lounging inches away from our sliding glass door. She looked hot with mouth open breathing. But instead of panting, she was scenting her next meal. My cat Olive used to do that when scouting for birds in our backyard — before we moved to the wilds of Arizona.
The bobcat nonchalantly grabbed a bird midair and took it behind a potted plant to munch. She climbed a tree and came down with another snack of a baby bird. Another baby bird was hopping on the patio oblivious to the danger. That life ended quickly.
The bobcat moved into the shade and fell asleep on our patio, sated with an afternoon meal.

I’m a little nervous to go outside after dark. You don’t know what’s out in those trees or under our patio furniture. It’s literally a jungle out there!
Thanks to my sister-in-law for the amazing videos.

That is so amazing Elizabeth. What a beautiful animal
I’m out of new birds at the moment for Bird of the Week. So, I looked back through the years and remembered our bobcat.
A beautiful cat! Not the kind you want on your lap. 💀😂
It is a pretty cat. It used to hang out in our backyard all the time. We haven’t had one for a year or two.
I remember this post. The cat would definitely be a greater wake up than coffee! In Florida, it is the equivalent of an alligator visiting.
I think an alligator would be scarier. The bobcats are pretty timid. It’s mountain lions I worry about.
We have never had an alligator visit our house but I was working at a school in a new development and a baby alligator was outside the back door. I discovered it and then the AP came and captured him with a garbage can. I am glad that day I choose not to go out the back door as I might have stepped on it and it was not near dismissal time so all was good.
That is scary! So glad you did not go out the back door!
Yeah, my car was in the back and there was a big parking lot, so sometimes on my break I used to go out the back and walk. That day, I did not.
You were lucky!
I totally agree about not venturing out after dark if too many of those bigger “cats” are roaming around. She is beautiful though.
What scares me more is there are lots of sightings of mountain lions. I haven’t seen any but they are known to be around.
Apparently we had a bear appear in a garbage truck the other day. No idea what part of town he was picked up in but they are getting much more brave as they search for food and not staying in the higher country where they belong.
Yikes! That would be scary. We used to have them in Snohomish where we lived out in the country.
Wow, you get quite a show in your backyard. Maybe you should set up a blind, and start charging people to come over and observe the wildlife.
I’ve thought about it!
Live entertainment! 😄
What a neat memory to have pop up. Bobcats are such cool creatures.
Yes, I enjoy looking back through the years in my blog. That was an exciting day with the bobcat. The bobcat used to visit us often but hasn’t for years now.
Oh Wow — incredible pictures and videos. Love seeing that one of Olive!! So beautiful!
I miss Olive! I’m glad you enjoyed the bobcat photos and videos.
Wow, that was definitely up close and personal!
It’s hard to watch the sweet little birds meet their end but everyone needs to eat.
Glad Olive was safe and sound.
We turned Olive into an indoor cat when we moved to Arizona. Our neighbor said cats and small dogs wouldn’t last an hour outside.
Wowza, wowza! Thanks for sharing again…wildlife kingdom, for sure…with a history of epic visitors! 😜
I’m so glad you enjoyed the photos and videos of our bobcat. He showed up with perfect timing while my sister in law was visiting. 😊
Amazing! 😘❤️😘
💕💕
Very good video of the bobcat. It’s not that small and one should be careful when it is seen around.
True! The mountain lions scare me more. They are around but I haven’t seen any so far.
Take care Elizabeth. I hope you carry a proper walking stick with you when out walking.
I have pepper spray and a whistle that’s supposed to scare wildlife away. I do have walking sticks too but I only use them on hiking trails.
That’s great then. Be safe dear friend
Way safer than the homeless living in our yard and break-in robberies in California!
Oh yes!
👍🏼
😍
Incredible! Yep, with all those wonderful birds visiting your home, it was only a matter of time before predators started showing up for a meal. As long as they don’t eat Red or Mrs., it’s all good.
I agree! I try to chase them away from our birds. Especially Red and Mrs.
Good! 👍🏼
Gorgeous creature! Or, I should say creatures! Olive is gorgeous, too!
Thank you! Olive was a beauty. She passed away two years ago from kidney and liver failure. I miss her so much!
Nature is both beautiful and ruthless! Olive was a looker as well.
Olive was a beauty and a sweetheart 💕
