A quail took over the Bird Buddy feeder to enjoy the birdseed.

A quail looking for birdseed that fell to the ground.

A quail walking among the backyard plants.

Mourning doves cooling off at the birdbath. I find it funny they often stand with their tails in water.

A Curved-Bill Thrasher on a bench. He’s the bully bird of the backyard.
This video shows the Curved-billed thrasher in action!
How is your week going so far?

Nobody better mess with the curved-bill thrasher.
The curved-bill thrasher rules the backyard. He really is a bully.
Now that’s what I call a quail close up! Love the little noises they make.
We don’t have Thrashers here, but he’s certainly territorial over that feeder. And the close up of his eyes? Positively demonic.
😉
It rare a quail will fly up into the feeder. They mostly stay on the ground picking up the spill of birdseed. That thrasher looks so mean and you’re right about his eyes!
Thank you for the excellent videos, Elizabeth! The Quail are so cute!
I’m glad you enjoyed the Bird Buddy videos. Most of them are Mourning Doves, so it was fun to see the Quail and Thrasher.
Your mourning doves look as though they could be cousins to the pair on our deck…and ya know what? Ours did the same thing — trailing their tail feathers in a puddle the other day. So funny that you mentioned it here…I’d forgotten how it registered as odd! 😜💝😜
How fun that you have a pair of mourning doves, too. Did you know that they mate for life? I don’t understand the tails in the water, but who knows? Maybe it their way to cool off?
I didn’t know it…the mating for life…but they do seem super attentive and devoted to each other. Rare to see one of them alone. 😊💝😊
Quail and Cardinals also mate for life. I always see them in pairs, too. I love that fact about the birds we have. 🥰
❤️😊❤️
💕💕
Lovely shots and videos Elizabeth.
I’m so glad you liked them!
It’s indeed so refreshing to see such lovely pictures
Thank you so much! My wildlife keeps me refreshed. I’m happy to share it.
You’re very welcome. And thanks for sharing
😊
❤️
Such great photos, EA!
I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. Friday I’m posting the Mule Deer that visited our yard.
Wow, I can’t wait to see that! I’ve seen a lot of wildlife, but have never seen a Mule Deer in Phoenix. Very neat!!
I had seven circle our yard. I haven’t seen them for more than a year!
I can see why the curved-bill thrasher got its name and reputation. Yikes!
Isn’t he something? My first photography class, I had to create a story with seven to ten photos and the curved-bill thrasher won the part of villain.
Did I miss anything? How are the eggs?
The eggs should be hatching this week or next. I can’t wait to get photos. Friday I’ll have photos of mule deer who stopped by.
Such unique visitors you have! I enjoyed watching the quail visits while in Phoenix a few summers ago.
I’m happy you enjoyed watching quail during your visit. They are such interesting characters. Tomorrow I’ll have more photos of wild creatures.
my week was writing hell….
Oh no!
Fun bird action you caught there!
Thanks!
Love the quail, but wow—the thrasher is a real bully!
In my photography class I took last January through May, my final project was to tell a story using photos. The thrasher was perfect as the evil one.
😂 I bet. He was kicking everyone out of there, even the mourning dove, which is bigger. I think we need Mr. Hawk to pay him a visit!
With that beak on the thrasher he might give a hawk a run for his money. But the hawk would win in the end.
He probably will, but like you said, the hawk will win in the end.
