Happy Friday! I was excited to see a few plants in bloom. Because it’s so hot — it will top 100 degrees today — I had to snap photos before the blooms wilt. I was especially excited with this red bottlebrush that was attracting multiple bees.

This will be something else when all those buds bloom.

More busy bees on the bottlebrush!
On another note, I was scheduled for a colonoscopy Monday. I had a referral from my primary to a specialist. When I made the appointment, I asked the scheduler about prep. I’ve done this before and there’s more to it than just showing up for the appointment. She said she’d text me the instructions. Well, I was texted the name of the doctor, address and phone number.
I tried unsuccessfully to send a message through their patient portal. It asked for an office location from a drop down menu that said “no location found.” Without that field, I couldn’t send the message.
Since it’s fast approaching my appointment, I called and left a detailed message explaining I never received any instructions for colonoscopy prep. I got a call back. I learned that I was scheduled for a consultation PRIOR to the colonoscopy. I asked why did I need a separate appointment since I my referral spells out the procedure requested by my primary. Consultation cancelled. Waiting for my colonoscopy date in April. Medicine these days!

Here’s the bottlebrush bush from a few steps back. I can’t wait to see this in full bloom!

And a photo of Red to go with the red bottlebrush photos.
Have a great weekend! What are your plans?

I’ve never seen a bottlebrush bush, but the blooms are stunning.
I was so fascinated to see those blooms like that on a bottlebrush bush. It’s a first for me too!~
Love those plants EA, I wonder if we can grow them here? I should check… Daughter just scheduled her first colonoscopy and they have a new prep process now, supposed to be easier than the standard. We’re doing a short hike this morning up on the ridge. I may go out to the Mesa over the weekend, early though because we’re hitting 90F.
We had bottlebrush bushes in Palm Springs but never had blooms like this. They never had blooms like that before in the five years we’ve lived here either. I hope my prep is easier than my one before for the colonoscopy. Wow, you have the heat wave too. My kids have it in Berkeley.
100 already. I’m trying to wrap my head around that. Stay cool! Beautiful shots!
This heat is not normal. March is usually in the 70s. My kids live in Berkeley and they have the mid 90s! My daughter doesn’t have AC in her apartment and works from home. I told her to find a hotel with AC for her and Waffles the 10 year old pug.
The pipe cleaner flowers are so pretty! 🤭 Have a fine weekend, Elizabeth. 😎
I’m glad you like them! It’s a hot weekend ahead. We’re thinking of driving to Flagstaff for cooler weather.
Medicine these days is right! I could go on… Glad you got it sorted out.
With the weather heating up, we’re going to the Desert Botanical Gardens this weekend. We just learned that you can check out Cultural Passes from the library to attend various museums for free, so we’re looking forward to exploring all the places that have been out of our budget in recent years, like the Phx Art Museum.
That’s a great idea to explore with Cultural Passes. I’ll have to see if our library has them. We enjoy going to the MIM in the summer while it’s hot. It’s a nice cool place to be!
The MIM is great! Definitely look into the Culture Pass! Here’s some info: https://www.mcldaz.org/subject/culture-pass/
Thanks for the link!
We have bottle brush around here too and I love the fuzzy blooms. While not 100 degrees (thank goodness), it’s been way hotter than normal around here. I just pulled off my first cherry tomatoes from our “volunteer” plants. So yummy!
Btw, for my last coloscopy (I had to have yearly ones for a while), I opted to take prep pills rather than that foul tasting drink. It was SO much better.
The bottlebrush are so pretty! My kids have heat in NorCal, too! I love the idea of cherry tomatoes. Thanks for the idea of prep pills. I hope that is an option.
I have seen bottle brush somewhere. My cactus did not fully survive the cold. I trimmed it back. We just returned from a very busy day finding plants through marketplace including amaryllis, mint, and sunflowers. Distances are often misleading in Florida. It seems like a straight haul but with traffic and other things, it is like a well played chess game when it works. We did get to see a few interesting places we normally would not know of including private greenhouses. Mike stopped at Lowe’s and loaded up on dirt and wood chips. Along the way, we stopped at Aldi’s en route and Mike went to a very early doc appt . today to check his heart. I kept telling him ‘slow down,’ and maybe he will but then he came home, planted the new amaryllis and I watered, unloaded the groceries, and planted a few in the pots, myself once we took out the hostas which had died. This life sure is busy. I am happy to be home and out of the traffic and running around!
What a busy day! Your yard is going to look amazing with the new plants and the ones that didn’t survive the cold cleaned out.
It was but a good one!
👍🏼
Beautiful shrub! We have flowers, too—weeds, that is!
I need to get another photo of the bottlebrush bush. In one day there are many more blooms. We have weeds blooming too!
A post about bottlebrushes and a colonoscopy seems quite appropriate.
Haha! I got a good laugh out of that one.
LOL! Oh gosh!
😅
Beautiful bottle brush brooms.
They are so pretty. Now the entire plant is in bloom.
We used to have this in our previous home.

my gastro makes me come in for an appointment before they make the appointment even with the referral from my primary. as to weekend, yesterday I went to the museum at FIT. this morning took dog on nice walk to park and sat outside with tea and my daughter. going to see Project Hail Mary this afternoon then dinner with friends tonight. tomorrow going to the Friends Experience with different friends and then brunch.
I’ve never had a consultation appointment before, except for the two surgeries I had in the past year. That sounds so lovely to sit outside with tea with your dog and daughter. My husband told me yesterday morning that friends were coming over for dinner. He swears he told me, but he told me invited them, not that they accepted! So I rushed to the grocery store, spent the day cleaning and preparing!
that is totally something my husband would do. this morning he told me that he invited the friends were dining with to come over for drinks at 530. I’m like, you know the movie let’s out at five, we have to pick up hummus, walk home and he has to walk dog….so he told them to come at 615…
Too funny! My husband invited them over for tri tip, which was frozen solid in the freezer! Also I eat fish on Fridays during Lent. It all worked out though.
👍👍
😊
I served fish and tri tip. At 100 degrees outside, we put the the tri tip and it defrosted quickly.
excellent

I love the spring, the blooms, the color. Sorry to hear about the mess up with your colonoscopy, I’m finding it really hard to find doctors, to get appointments, and communicate. Our health care system needs an overhaul. Hugs, C
It is a beautiful time of year, but this week is too hot! I agree with you on medicine. It was hard to leave Palm Springs because we were connected to many doctors and had to start over in a highly populated place. Our kids’ Catholic school in Palm Springs was filled with doctor families. We could always get in or get referrals.
Gorgeous flowers!
Good luck navigating doctors and appointments. It can be so frustrating.
Thank you so much. We moved a few years ago and it’s been a challenge getting doctors.
Beautiful blooms, and glad your appointment is straightened out!
Thanks! The appointment is two months later than what I expected. But that’s okay!
I love all the vivid red adornments! 💯
I like how red pops in our desert. That’s probably why I like my cardinal so much I named “Red.”
Love the brilliant red color of the flowers. And Mr Red goes perfectly with the blooms. 🙂
Yes Red matches the flowers perfectly!
❣️
💕
I’m glad that Mr. Cooper’s hawk is gone and Red is back. A consultation before a colonoscopy, that’s weird. It’s a pretty standard procedure, and the prep is usually the same. It sounds like they might have been trying to get some extra cash.
Yes, I’m happy to have Red here. The hawks are beautiful, but they can be lethal to our other birds. It sounds like the consultation was a billing issue to me. An extra appointment.
Indeed. We like seeing Red and the quails, so we don’t need the hawk messing with them.
100 percent correct!
All sorts of fun Reds today. Of course I loved seeing the bees do their thing; hey, I recognize a few of those guys: My cousins! 🤣
Crazy about the doctors office not having a clear understanding of what is needed. Like, who wants to make extra visits? No one, that’s who.
Thanks for enjoying my photos. Also for understanding my frustration with the doctor’s office. My actual appointment is now in May!
