This year, we planted several bougainvillea. I love the color they add to our yard. They are small now and I can’t wait to see how much they grow in a few years. We had to replace several due to our javelina buddies who ate them.
I’m sharing several plant photos from around our yard. It’s been a very quiet week of rest, elevating and icing my foot. The pain has not been too bad post surgery. Honestly, not much has been going on this week and I’m enjoying the quiet.
We are meeting a fellow swim mom from our Palm Springs team later today who was one of my swim mom mentors. Her daughter went to ASU for college and lives nearby. The daughter was an All American collegiate swimmer and held ASU records. She and her husband had a baby recently and her mom is here to do grandma duties for her daughter’s return to work. It will be my first outing post surgery.
I always enjoy getting together with people from a former phase of my life. It seems as though no time has passed and we can reminisce about our parenting days.
The weather is beautiful and I’m loving sitting outside enjoying the sun reading, since there’s not much I can do — except for a small walk wearing my boot.

This photo was taken with me seated looking up at a mesquite tree branch.

Our fire sticks are turning bright orange. We have several plants throughout the yard. Why is it called “fire stick?” Not only does it resemble a stick on fire with its orange color, its sap is toxic and causes a burning sensation on skin and in eyes, leading to severe irritation and potential temporary blindness. I’m always careful walking by them.

I love these plants called Fairy Dusters. They do remind me of fairies. They can be light pink to a darker red like this one.
I hope you enjoyed my plant photos. Yes, I’ve seen Red but he’s staying far away in the wash behind our house. I’ve seen him where I believe their nest is in the cholla cactus.
Happy Friday! What plans do you have for the weekend?

Love that fairy plant. The blooms are really unique. We’re on the edge of that winter storm moving through the country. Snow and way below freezing temps. I’m layering and most likely staying inside. This cold is a new thing for me.
I love the fairy dusters too. It’s a treat when I see them along the road during long walks. I think the seeds must have floated from someone yard.
Stay warm. It will be exciting for you to have cold and snow. We have a dark gray sky and rain is forecast. That’s a change from our 70 plus degrees and sun.
It’s about 10F right now. Tonight it will be 0 or lower!!
Yikes!
Yikes indeed 😉
👍🏼
Beautiful photos! Nothing too exciting planned around here beyond enjoying the nice weather.
Thank you! I’m usually focused on birds, but it was fun to highlight some of our beautiful plants. It looks like we might get rain today, at least I hope so!
I hope so, too!!
great color, love it.
Thanks!
Wow, I LOVE the many beautiful plants you have on your property, Elizabeth!! Lovely. The Firestick is so cool but don’t touch, wow. The Fairy Duster is amazing! Can you fence your property off to keep those critters out?
We have a fence around the backyard and only the bobcats can get in. They hop the fence. The bougainvillea that was eaten was in the front of the house, planted around an enclosure for our trash cans. Now we have chicken wire around the plants.
That’s good but a bummer that you have to fence things.
Javelina are garbage disposals. They eat everything in sight.
😂😂😂😂 They can save you a rubbish disposal fee each month. Just toss it all over the fence! 🤙🏻😎😂
👍🏼
Today I’m meeting a friend for a tour of a historical synogogie. Movie tonight. Moma tomorrow. Dinner with friends tomorrow evening. Supposed to see a movie on Sunday but let’s see how weather pans out. Lovely photos!!
Thanks! You are busy as usual. I’m having my first time out since surgery. That’s about it plus reading Dorian Gray.
The fairy dusters are so cool!
It’s really cold here today and tomorrow, so not really doing anything. But the sun is out! ☀️
I love the fairy dusters, too. We have rain in the forecast. I can’t do much, so I’m taking it easy, too.
How are you feeling?
Not too bad. Except for being really tired. I guess anesthesia and surgery takes it out of me!
They do! It’s a big shock to the body.
That must be it. I am more than a normal tired!
LOL, I smiled when you said you were enjoying sitting outside. Here in Chicago, below zero temps, they told us within 10 min we can get frost bitten. So, excited for the future and Spring.
Wow! We have colder weather today. It’s about 50 degrees and we’re expecting rain.
Would love your weather.
Dorian is worth being home to read
I can feel your rest and ease in these photos. Love the way you take all in as you heal! The fairy duster photo is stunning!
I always enjoy plants! Hope you had a nice get-together with your friend. No big weekend plans here. I’ve been putting in too much work time and with try doing some painting today.
It was so much fun to see my fellow swim mom, plus her daughter, son-in-law and new baby! Enjoy your painting!
Oh my goodness…what a welcome bright spot this morning, Elizabeth! Thank you for the gorgeous bougainvillea pics! 💝💝💝
I’m so glad you enjoyed my photos. I smile every time I look out the window and see the bougainvillea.
Gorgeous!!! Xo! 😘
💕
Lovely photos Elizabeth. I’m glad the foot is healing well. Enjoy the good weather and relaxing time
I’m glad you enjoyed my photos. Our beautiful weather went away. Now it’s cold and rainy!
We are also facing a cold wave. But we needed this rain- it has refreshed everything.
The rain didn’t come, at least not where we live. But it’s cold and cloudy.
I think winter is on its way out.
Pretty flowers! Glad you are taking it easy and healing. Hope the pain gets less and less each day.
I agree about reconnecting with friends from different phases of life. 🙂
I’m glad you are able to take this time to rest, relax and heal; what a blessing.
I love your plants, especially the Fairy Duster. How aptly named. I recall having Mesquite trees when we lived in the Dallas area; other than that, I’d not heard of them until your post.
I hope you enjoy your time with your cohort, Swim Mom.
It’s been one week and I’m feeling no pain. Just tired. It was so much fun to see my fellow swim mom and her amazing daughter and son-in-law. We do see the kids more often because they live closeby.
