A dove took off, being forced from the birdseed by a covey of quail.
When I looked through my old photos from last January’s intro to photography class, I found quite a few of birds in flight. I remember trying and trying to catch them flying and found it was almost impossible. So, it was surprising to see a few that were okay. If you missed my post Wednesday, I posted old photos of Red HERE.

I found this view of a stately predator to be fascinating.

Doves in flight.

Quail sound like jets planes taking off.

Harris’s Hawk landing on a mesquite tree.

A Harris’s Hawk flying from a Century Plant.

A hawk I caught right before he flew off the neighbor’s roof.

This is a framed photo of birds in flight that is hanging in our living room. Gary Gruber has a lengthy career as a photographer that includes street photography, public relations, landscapes and more. We worked together back in my PR days and I remember helping him in his booth at a juried art show in La Quinta. Now he has photography in a gallery in Palm Desert. You should spend some time looking through his photography on his website HERE. His work is stunning and will brighten your day! Here’s a photo from his Birds on a wire tab.

Happy Friday! Any exciting plans for the weekend?

What great photos! The hawks are especially impressive.
Thanks! I haven’t had any exciting visitors lately, other than the javelina. It was fun to look back on old photos.
I’m jealous of just one quail and you have a covey!
Nice hawk shots.
Thanks! We seem to have an abundance of quail. They are having babies and they all thrive.
Those quail just took over didn’t they! The hawks are very impressive. I hope they were flying away rather than getting ready to dive for prey in your yard 🙁
The quail swarm in for a few minutes and then the leave. I haven’t had any hawks stop by lately. I see them flying high above, but not attacking anything or anyone here.
We’ve had a hawk targeting our yard birds, so we stopped filling the tree feeders and now only fill the window feeders. 😔
That’s smart to keep the little ones safe. I see hawks circling around, but they haven’t been stopping in.
Love the hawk photos! They are really good! Exercise at the health club present tomorrow..2x a week is about it. We are having a cold front-work up to the 30’s today. Took mint plants in last night and all looks good. I am happy to be home and healthy, mostly! Have a good weekend!
Thanks! I need to get back to our YMCA and get some exercise. But I’m scheduled for minor surgery Monday and it will have to wait!
Oh, I hope all is well! The recreation club is just 15 minutes or so away which is helpful. Then I do my shopping and other things.
Our YMCA is about the same distance away. I was supposed to get a bunion removed last May. When I went in I had sprained my ankle hiking. The doctor discovered it was broken so I was rushed in for ankle surgery! Then I rescheduled months later for the bunion and my son asked to take care of him after his surgery which was the same week! So finally, it’s my turn to take care of this.
Very beautiful photos, Elizabeth! Lovely. Have a great weekend. 😎
Thanks! You have a great weekend, too!
Oh I love your- birds in action photos. Amazing how you have captured them in flight
Thanks! It’s difficult to do. It’s really just pointing the camera and getting lucky.
Yes, I know. I can’t take a decent picture of a bird sitting, because as soon as I point my phone at it, it flys away.
That’s so true. It’s rare for them to sit still for a picture. The quail on guard is usually elevated and sits still.
It’s as if they have a sixth sense that tells them that we are going to take a picture
So true! That’s what I found with Red on my last sightings of him. I’d reach for my camera and he’d be gone!
I saw a red bird here once and it might be a cardinal and it didn’t let me photograph it. Very quick to fly away.
😅
Those are some great shots!
You have some really nice images – especially the ones of the hawk. I love the La Quinta art show. The quality is generally good and I usually find something to come home with.
Thank you. That’s awesome you’ve been to the La Quinta arts show, too.
The dove flying away from the quail and the Hawk landing on a mesquite tree are stunning. They all are. So delightful and fun. Thank you, Elizabeth!
I’m glad you enjoyed them. I’ve discovered that photography and working in Adobe is very relaxing to me.
very beautifull 👍
😊
Hmmmm. Yesterday lunch with a friend and we went to a kane Austen exhibit. Today movie. Tomorrow my daughter and I are doing a thing called shoot and spin where we get to throw darts or something at paint filled balloons and the splatter creates a painting. Will tell you about it next week! Andy daughter and I are having a Sunday night traitors marathon
That sounds like a fun weekend! We’re having dinner out two nights in a row which is unusual for us. I want to hear more about the shoot and spin.
Will definitely fill in the blanks!!
These are all excellent! I did wonder how the hawk took an entire roof. He’s quite the badass!😉😂 (Sorry, I couldn’t help but be amused at a little typo. It’s just how I am.)
😅
Great photos.
Thanks!
Wow, the last photo is stunning for sure! So bright!
You have great photos too. Especially the Harris Hawk landing on the mssquite. ❤️
Thank you!!!
Very welcome!
