We’re at home from our family Hawaii trip that I shared photos of HERE and HERE. I’m now in my real life wild kingdom and enjoyed a visit by a squadron of javelina.
I counted three or four babies, two moms and a handful of males. I took photos with my Nikon and telephoto lens, but the best photos and videos were from my iphone. I got amazingly close feeling confident our fence would hold. I had thrown a few handfuls of birdseed out for our quail, but the javelina discovered it and soon took over.
I wouldn’t want to get between these two guys!
Babies. I especially like peewee redhead!

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2026 for all of us and our wildlife friends!
What are your plans for the first weekend of 2026?

Happy new year dear E.A Wickham🎊🎊.
Happy New Year to you!
May God give you all the happiness.☺️☺️
😊
Wish you a wonderful day dear E. A . Wickham.
Oh my god! My heart is melting. So adorable.
If I lived there I’d be feeding them all day…. and getting in trouble with the neighbors I’m sure!
I threw a few handfuls of birdseed and hoped the neighbors didn’t see!
Are they destructive… or are people just scared of them?
They can be destructive. They view pet dogs as coyotes who are their enemies. So you wouldn’t want to be walking a dog. Some of the males have huge tusks, so you wouldn’t want to run into those either!
So not as cute as I thought.
😉
Yep. Although it was fun to be so close with our fence between them and me.
Happy New Year EA! What fun visitors to have just outside the fence.
Outside the fence is the operative word!
Interesting. We don’t get javelinas in our desert. I’m surprised they let you get so close to them.
I’ve run into javelina several times out on walks. They are not afraid of us and when they take steps to get closer, I get a little nervous!
I’d feel nervous, too. Yikes!
Some of the males have huge tusks!
Oh. They look like me, then.
Ha!
Wow, when the home owner is away, who will play?
So true! 😀
The babies are very cute.
The babies are adorable. I was surprised at how the javelina were not afraid of me.
I’ve seen these animals for the first time in your photos and videos
I’ve never seen them so close before. Although they don’t run away or seem very frightened, I stay away without a fence!
They are quite bold.
That’s a good way to describe them. Once I saw them on the sidewalk during a walk and I was taking photos. There were three and they walked right at me! I backed away.
I can imagine that it wouldn’t be a welcome sight- them walking straight at you.
Not at all. Quite frightening!

😅
Are these wild in your area? They look like they are in the Pig family. No such thing around here which is good.
They are wild here. They look like they are related to pigs, but they are in the Guinea Pig family!
Oh. Something wild there? We don’t have them here.
We have a ton of wildlife including bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes, and foxes too.
Wow, that’s very different from the Mojave Desert!
It’s different than Palm Springs too even though it’s the same desert.
Interesting! 🤔
Javelinas!! Let’s see….my daughter and I went to The Museum of the City of Ny today. Seeing a play tonight. Whitney tomorrow. Jazz show with friends tomorrow night. And perhaps a backgammon cafe on Sunday.
That sounds busy and fun! My husband and I got a bug returning from Hawaii. So we are lying low! The kids are fine. They flew into SFO while our flight was to Phoenix.
Rest up and feel better!
I’m trying. I tend to keep busy and not get the rest.
The javalina are so cute!! Good thing you have the fence between you, though. I hope 2026 is good to you and your family, E.A.!
The babies are adorable. I’m grateful for the fence. It keeps coyotes and javelina on the outside. The bobcats jump over.
Thanks for the good thoughts about 2026. Happy New Year to you and Dr. Zeus.
I didn’t know javelinas are in the guinea pig family!
Isn’t that odd? We had to look it up after we first saw them here.
So cute (as long as they are behind a fence)!
Best wishes to you and your family for a happy, healthy 2026!
Exactly! Behind a fence I enjoyed getting up close to them. Best wishes to you and yours for a great 2026!
I get it
👍🏼
What great good fortune to get these videos! Loved seeing them so close up like that. And that littlest one, so cute.
Happy New Year!
The little red one is so adorable! I felt very secure behind my fence to get close videos and pictures. Without the fence, I’d be frightened.
I’m planning on resting, writing and reading this week! xoxo, C
That’s me! We picked up a bug on the flight home. At least that’s what I think. Lots of rest is needed.
Hope you’re feeling better soon! xoxo
Love all of this! Thanks, Elizabeth! 💝😊💝
Thank you for reading!! 💕
Xo! 😘
I don’t recall ever seeing a Javelina before. And yes, I’d NOT want to get in between the two of you. 🙂 What a welcome home!!
I was outside a few minutes ago and smelled something like skunk. They were back! I got more photos.
