I’m trying a few ideas for my sea glass project that is due the Thursday following Thanksgiving. What I did was bring in a glass table from outside and put a lamp under it. That way the light is shining up through the table and glass so it looks backlit. The only issue I have is the glass table is a smoky brown and I think it changes the color of the glass.

It seems heavy green and yellowish — which I’ve tried to tone down in Adobe Camera Raw. The photo below I played with in ACR and changed the colors. I’ll be back to the drawing board with more ideas to take sea glass photos that come out in a better color.

Here are the colors of sea glass that I prefer. I took these a few weeks ago out in the sunlight.

I have a few more days to play with my sea glass and try to get some unique photos. Then I also need to work with my scanned images from our beach days to tell a story about hunting for sea glass and summers at the beach with the kids.
I found sea glass on Etsy and there are artists who make jewelry from sea glass. Something else that caught my eye was bird art using drift wood with sea glass birds on it!

Cute.
Which sea glass photos do you like and why?

It’s interesting to see how the sea glass changes. I tend to love the lighter complexion. Good luck with your project. Love the sea glass birds. If you’re going to try that, you have to find some reddish sea glass to represent Big Red and the Mrs! Ha, ha. 🤣😎
I do have a couple pieces of red sea glass. I had no idea what it could be used for! I like the lighter colors, too. I’m going to look for a clear glass table at Kiwanis thrift store to see if that keeps the colors true.
The dark is beautiful too. I just tend to the prefer seeing the lighter shade. I guess it comes down to personal preference.
We have a sunny day for the first time in a week. We’ve had dark rainy days. I may move my project back outside to try natural light and get the lighter tones.
I really liked the sea glass birds carved on driftwood because there’s some emotion between the two birds. Where there are no feelings or emotions, anything is useless, whether it’s a relationship or an object.
Interesting thought.

Good morning dear E.A Wickham . May your day be filled with the fragrance of flowers.
It’s so interesting to see the glass in different ways based on where it sits, or how the light comes through or in it’s natural state. I think with any option you are doing a great job showing how light and surrounding color impacts a photo plus your skill at changing a photo digitally to show what an artist is capable of using “aids”! All of the photos are ways to discuss what you can do with photography for the project. I do love the framed birds 🙂
Thank you for your perspective. I’m going to keep photographing to see different effects I can get. I’d like to see what the colors look like on clear glass with a light, versus the smoky brown. The birds out of sea glass caught my eye because of all my birdwatching.
Beautiful colors, I like the colors in the third photo best. You are so creative!! ❤️
Thanks! I like those colors too, but like the last two with the real colors also. 😊
Ya welcome! ☺️☺️
I like the first one the best. It’s pretty and a little moody. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks! I appreciate your viewpoint. I wasn’t liking the dark ones but it’s interesting that you see them as moody. Happy Thanksgiving!
I like the first one and the middle aqua one. The aqua one is my favorite, but there is something about the brownish, green colors in the first one that stands out to me. Good luck with your project! Have fun with it. The sea birds were a cute idea. I am sure you can get lost down a bunny hole of ideas when looking online.
Surprisingly, I’m getting a wide variety of sea glass photos. At first, they all looked the same. Then my professor gave us demonstrations of different ways to set up photos. The variety will help my final project, I think!
💚
I love sea glass pictures! I’ve never seen it in person before, but if I ever do, I know I’ll be ridiculously excited.
We had so much joy each summer collecting sea glass. I still get super excited when I find some. I found a few pieces at the beach went to in August. I was thrilled!
I think the backlit photos look fantastic! I love seeing all your experimentation.
Thanks! Still trying! I looked over notes from my last class and I realized I’m barely touching creativity or suggestions.
Great photo of the sea glass
Thanks!
I’m a lover of earth tones and autumn, so I really liked the first two images, though they aren’t true to the actual colors of the glass. The bird art is quite cute!
Although I didn’t like them at first because the table glass made them darker, I do like your comment about autumn colors.
Wow – great photos, Elizabeth. I love how your lighting brings out the texture. And the driftwood art – so clever!
Thanks, Wynne. It’s interesting how different lighting and placement changes the colors and texture. I thought the birds were cute, but I don’t think I’ll be making those!
Each photo has its own beauty Elizabeth. The sea glass birds are so cute
Thanks! I wanted to go to a thrift shop yesterday to find a clear glass table and see how that would effect the color. It’s closed on Mondays so I’ll look there today.
That’s cool.
I found a clear glass end table! It was $15 and I will use it as a plant stand when I’m done using it for sea glass photography.
That’s very cool.

I like the two that look like scattered pears. Makes me hungry.
😊
Sea glass has always been a part of my life and I adore it all. I started life on Lake Michigan and my mom had rows of jars filled with sea glass we collected in the windows filled with water. Gorgeous.
I had no idea that Lake Michigan had sea glass. What an interesting thing to learn!
Such beautiful colors!!
Thanks!
I like the very top one. The colors are vivid and I like the way the light shines through the middle
Thanks for your input. Now I have to put my project together. It’s due this week. I have to write some background, decide which photos to include and label them in order.
Good luck!!
Thanks!
