I wish I had my camera, but on Veterans Day I spent some time taking pictures with my iphone around the Claremont Resort and Club, the historic hotel where we’re staying. I had to get photos while I could — because an atmospheric river and torrential rain was in the forecast for the rest of our trip.
Two days later it is pouring! I’m at my son’s apartment now and I couldn’t leap over the river that was rushing down the curb by his sidewalk. Now I’ve got soaking wet shoes and socks!

Flag at half mast for Veterans Day.

The hallway to our room. The blue light doesn’t show to the naked eye. I think it’s an effect of blue panels along the wall and the light reflecting on them.

Views of San Francisco from the resort.

Views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The lobby.

Looking from a balcony on the Lobby level towards the tennis courts.

Another city view.

A view of the hotel.

The Club — gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room — can be found at the building in the background. The Club has memberships for local residents for tennis, swimming and the gym. It even has a youth swim team who practices there.

Where are some of your favorite places to visit and favorite hotels?

Such a beautiful place! 🥰 I can see the blue light.
It is so beautiful and unique. It makes the trip so much fun. The blue light is so interesting.
Love these historic places! Daughter and I stayed at the Stanyan Park Hotel across from Golden Gate Park and Haight Ashbury when we visited SF years ago then went across to Sausalito to another old historic place for the end of our trip. I would choose historic over new and lux anytime!
I love historic, too. This is so fun and unique to explore. The hallways are mazes and it took us a few days to figure out how to get to our room. The hallways have photos about the history of the hotel and the people who built it.
I found that to be true (about the history photos) at the Hotel Colorado. The Strater Hotel here in Durango has some wonderful display cases of historic items.
I recall staying at a similar Victorian-era hotel in San Diego. There is a cobblestone street out in front, horse-drawn carriages to give rides to tourists, and the toilet in the room had a tank up near the ceiling!
It adds so much to a visit to stay in a historic site. The San Diego hotel sound interesting with a cobblestone street. We went on a historical tour there looking at architecture and hearing the stories of early San Diego.
Claremont Resort and Club is so beautiful . The view from inside and outside the hotel is excellent.
It is beautiful. It’s a joy every time we enter the hotel.
Wow. enjoy life my dear friend.
😊
You are very lucky that you get a chance to visit such a beautiful place.
I am. Also it’s very close to our children.
May God continue to send you such wonderful journeys in the future.
Beautiful! Like Deb, I have such a great appreciation for historical places.
I do too. A friend of mine from Palm Springs used to stay here when her daughter lived in Berkeley and told me about it. Then my kids insisted we stay here a few years ago. I’m glad we discovered it.
Looks like a wonderful place to relax. I hope your son is doing better now.
Each day he feels better. He still needs help with many tasks, but that’s why we’re here. It’s a wonderful place to stay.
That’s great, sending him healing thoughts.
💕
So cool of you to travel and help your son!
I’m enjoying my visit and thankful my husband came too. I feel fortunate to be able to help.
Such a beautiful resort☺️☺️.
A lovely resort and fantastic view of SF. Hope your son will be ok.
Thank you! He’s feeling better and stronger each day. The pain is getting less but still there.
Good that he’s getting better and you are there.
We just went out to lunch and he’s taking a walk with my husband. Two days ago he was in bed in massive pain.
Glad he got outside. Fresh air is amazing in lifting the spirits.
So true. Every day he was out for a walk. Doctor’s orders.
Wonderful place with great views. Like others, I also like those historical places.
It’s a beauty of an old historic hotel. Plus the service is amazing.
The hotel looks amazing and well-kept, so I’m not surprised the service was great. The hotel probably has outstanding management and a strong team.
👍🏼
Wow – how cool! I love your pic of the Golden Gate with the fog enshrouding it. The atmospheric river is hitting us too so I’m glad you got a window before it started dumping. And I hope your son is recovering well!
I love looking at the views from the Claremont. Truly gorgeous and a nice change from desert views. We have a break in the weather today, that was unexpected, but more rain to come! My son is doing so much better today!
Very elegant! I love visiting older towns in Florida including Sebring and eccentric places on the way to the Keys, including Everglades City. I want to visit Fernandina Beach. I have heard nice things about this area from people who lived there. Old Florida.
That sounds wonderful. My son told me that the train used to run up to the Claremont. That’s how people visited. It was and still is the place to stay.
They have a good rail system in Florida. We are still researching a few ideas after the older pug passes and we have the younger one. We shall see.
Sounds good 😊
I am interested also in the train from Tampa to Miami to see some of the architect and history. Not sure if I can get Michael to go there but we shall see. We have been to Miami and most places in Florida but not all.
I really enjoy seeing the different architectural styles from the past and learning the history of different places.
So lovely…thank you for taking us along, Elizabeth. I wonder if I’ll ever be able to enjoy San Francisco again…so many special places in my memories, thanks to my dad and fun adventures. I love this virtual visit with you. Looks like a fab hotel! 💝😉💝
I do recommend staying here if you visit San Francisco. It’s in the Berkeley Hills. My son told us about a French bakery across the street from the hotel that is the best in the east side. Now I’m even a bigger fan! 😉
Whoa….and yum! 😜💝😜
I went back after spending the morning at my son’s house to pick up sandwiches at the bakery for lunch. All sold out by noon — and they start selling them at 11 a.m.!
That’s gorgeous! My two favorite places to stay in the US: The Mission Inn, Riverside, CA and Sundance Resort above Provo, Utah.
We stayed at the Mission Inn for swim meets for the kids. I love their outdoor restaurant. We’ve stayed in Park City but never stopped at Sundance. I sure want to!
Nice picture 👌
Thanks!
When we went to Santorini we stayed in a cave. It was incredible. Gorgeous hut on the water in Bora Bora.those are the hotels that stand out for me
Wow! That’s beyond amazing. I’ve always wanted to stay in a hut over the water.
You must!!
I will tell my husband today! Please send me info on where you stayed.
Le meridian. But we went awhile ago
Thanks! I’ll check it out.
RESORT is actually spelled RE$$$$$ORT.
This resort changes the rate depending on what’s going on at the nearby schools. When my daughter had surgery a month ago, I couldn’t afford to stay here. It was “parents weekend” for UC Berkeley. This time, the nightly rate is less than Best Western in San Diego we stayed at last year for a wedding. Fortunately, nothing is going on around town this week.
Yeah, as soon as they see me coming the price always goes up. I just figure it is the “he is a bad ass” surcharge.
That’s funny! 😅
