  1. Love these historic places! Daughter and I stayed at the Stanyan Park Hotel across from Golden Gate Park and Haight Ashbury when we visited SF years ago then went across to Sausalito to another old historic place for the end of our trip. I would choose historic over new and lux anytime!

    • I love historic, too. This is so fun and unique to explore. The hallways are mazes and it took us a few days to figure out how to get to our room. The hallways have photos about the history of the hotel and the people who built it.

      • I found that to be true (about the history photos) at the Hotel Colorado. The Strater Hotel here in Durango has some wonderful display cases of historic items.

I recall staying at a similar Victorian-era hotel in San Diego. There is a cobblestone street out in front, horse-drawn carriages to give rides to tourists, and the toilet in the room had a tank up near the ceiling!

      • It adds so much to a visit to stay in a historic site. The San Diego hotel sound interesting with a cobblestone street. We went on a historical tour there looking at architecture and hearing the stories of early San Diego.

    • I do too. A friend of mine from Palm Springs used to stay here when her daughter lived in Berkeley and told me about it. Then my kids insisted we stay here a few years ago. I’m glad we discovered it.

  2. Wow – how cool! I love your pic of the Golden Gate with the fog enshrouding it. The atmospheric river is hitting us too so I’m glad you got a window before it started dumping. And I hope your son is recovering well!

    • I love looking at the views from the Claremont. Truly gorgeous and a nice change from desert views. We have a break in the weather today, that was unexpected, but more rain to come! My son is doing so much better today!

  3. Very elegant! I love visiting older towns in Florida including Sebring and eccentric places on the way to the Keys, including Everglades City. I want to visit Fernandina Beach. I have heard nice things about this area from people who lived there. Old Florida.

  4. So lovely…thank you for taking us along, Elizabeth. I wonder if I’ll ever be able to enjoy San Francisco again…so many special places in my memories, thanks to my dad and fun adventures. I love this virtual visit with you. Looks like a fab hotel! 💝😉💝

    • This resort changes the rate depending on what’s going on at the nearby schools. When my daughter had surgery a month ago, I couldn’t afford to stay here. It was “parents weekend” for UC Berkeley. This time, the nightly rate is less than Best Western in San Diego we stayed at last year for a wedding. Fortunately, nothing is going on around town this week.
