I had three squirrels running around the birdseed block yesterday. It turns out they like the sunflower seeds and run quickly to get their fair share. Here are a few photos of them, plus a description of the type of squirrel:
Harris’s antelope squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is found in Arizona and New Mexico in the United States, and in Sonora in Mexico. They are adapted to hot weather conditions. — Wikipedia

I had Red, Mrs., quail and a gila woodpecker hanging out as well.

Here’s Mrs. on a firestick plant.

This gila woodpecker likes to hang upside from time to time.

A handsome poppa quail keeping an eye on his family.

Red also likes the firestick as a perch.
I’m waiting to find out my son’s surgery date and when I’ll return to Northern California with Waffles.
Plus I need to prepare a presentation for my photography class about a photographer or photos that I’d like to share with the class. I’ve selected Inge Morath who was married to Arthur Miller for 40 years after he was married to Marilyn Monroe. I’ll share more about her with you — after I’ve done my homework and selected a few photos of hers.
What’s on your agenda for this week?

What a cute little squirrel. Looks more like our northern chipmunk.
And such a beautiful quail portrait!
❤️
Thanks! I’ve been calling them chipmunks for four years. I was corrected after sharing a photo of one on the Next Door site.
That was a fun mix of wildlife in the backyard! I like that you get to do these side projects for your class. Never heard of Inge Morath so that should be fun to hear more about her given the connection to MM. My week holds getting my car registered today. Attending a ceremony for my youngest grand later this week that she isn’t aware of yet so that should be fun. She won a fire safety contest so the school is making a big deal out of it! We are getting really cold at night here and the some of the mountain ski areas are open so winter is near.
I’m glad you liked the mix of wildlife photos. I read “Death of a Salesman” the other week following along with my DIL’s curriculum. On the first page there was a short biography of Arthur Miller and it mentioned his photographer wife Inge Morath and three books they did together. I looked at some of her photos and she has a wide variety from celebrities, Mao to street photos. Congrats to your grand on her competition and upcoming ceremony! Have a great week!
Trying not to carry an agenda and go with the flow, mostly! It is nice to be home. Sometimes it is nice not to have too full a plate, so you can take care of some details. And have some fun.
I agree. I enjoy a slower pace and relaxing at home. Yesterday I had a big day with lunch out with friends and the movie “Blue Moon.” Besides a mammogram today, I’m hoping to work on my photography assignments and having a quiet week.
Definitely agree. I am really enjoying being home.
I’ve been home for years with a few stints at new careers working with my husband. But mostly I was a freelance writer for PR clients, magazine writing and websites from home. It’s nice to be home!
Yes, the school district in my county is a tough gig, my last gig. If something great, like editing or proofreading should fall into my lap, I will take it.
👍🏼
Oh my gosh…thanks for these, Elizabeth! A great nature study moment to start my day. I’m off to the races (probably attempting too much) this week but I love checking in with you and basking in the nature scenes. Fabulous! 💝🌞💝
I think the nature photos really help me relax and slow down, too! I’m glad you are enjoying them. 🥰
I do, I do! 🥰😉🥰
💕💕
Great photos. Love the woodpecker on the flamingo.
I’m glad you enjoyed this batch of photos. The woodpecker had all sorts of angles on the flamingo, but I liked this one best.
What lovely photos of the local wildlife. Red in the firestick is an especially great shot!
Thanks! The firestick is right outside my window. It’s interesting how many birds like to go into it. The sparrows and finches completely disappear. I wonder if they have a nest? Or will have one?
Oh, interesting! They are so small that I bet inside the plant would be a great nesting spot.
Your squirrel looks so much different than ours here! Much like a chipmunk! So cute. 💜
I didn’t know they were squirrels. I posted a photo of my “chipmunk” on Next Door’s website and immediately got a correction giving me the exact name.
Incredible photos, Elizabeth. I think I would have said that was a chipmunk so that you for the information. Does your son’s surgery change your plan for your own?
Thank you! Yes, I got corrected on the site Next Door for calling these squirrels chipmunks. At least I learned something new.
I cancelled or put off my surgery. My son goes to a pre-op appointment Wednesday at UCSF. Then we’ll have a surgery date. I had x-ray and blood work this week, that I also cancelled because it has to be within a certain time frame of my surgery….It’s too close together so his and my surgery might have been on the same week.
You are a good mom, Elizabeth! I know that’s not news…but still just saying!
Thanks! I was stressing out on the timing. So I simplified life. It’s removing a bunion from my big toe, so I’ll live until January to have the procedure done!
I had to submit my writing for workshop this week, so that’s always fun. Otherwise, continue writing….went to the Met today. Going to try to catch a movie tomorrow, going to philharmonic on Thursday. 2 in person writing classes and one o line
Busy week! I have my community newsletter to do plus photography assignments. I’m trying to get everything done before I leave to take care of kids again!
You are a good mom
These pictures are fantastic. It’s like they all are posing for you.
Fab photos! Squirrels used to be the bane of my existence when Copper and I went for walks. He would go crazy! But now they’re entertaining.
I can only imagine!
I would’ve sworn that was a chipmunk, but they’re all in the same family, so that makes sense.
Great photos. I’ll be interested in reading about the photographer that you are going to investigate.
Thanks! The squirrels that look like chipmunks are out in force today. They are so entertaining.
