Mrs. sitting in a tree.
While I’m writing this post, the words from my headline are staring at me from my new phone. There’s a gray bar above those words that hasn’t made one iota of progress. It should tell me how much time I have left. But it’s estimating…
I’m not one to get new phones. But, I cracked my screen two haircuts ago getting out of the car at my hair dressers. I could live with it.
Then my husband completely killed his phone. It would ring, but nothing on the screen worked. He couldn’t slide the bar to open the phone. I ordered a new phone for him and set it up. He wanted me to get a new phone, too. I finally agreed, after I bought him the wrong size protective case by mistake. I agreed to buy the phone that would fit the case, so I didn’t have to drive 45 minutes to the Apple store and exchange it!
I went through our phone carrier to order my husband’s phone online. They asked for my ID to verify who I was. I had to sit with my driver’s license in my hand and show it to a camera on the screen. It said it successfully verified me.
Then I got a series of emails and texts telling me the order was going to be cancelled unless I verified myself with an ID. I clicked on the link and it said verification successful! But the website with my order said they were cancelling unless I verified my ID. Such is the new world.
I called a human being at the phone company and told them of my dilemma. While I was explaining the continual loop I was stuck in, I got a text and an email that my husband’s phone order had been cancelled! While I was on the phone with the phone company!
Now I’m patiently waiting. And waiting. And waiting while watching nothing happen on my new phone.
What recent technological or company snafus have you experienced lately?

Things like this are nightmares for sure! I really needed a new stick vac. I had used my original one to death. Found a deal, told it was delivered (which it never was) and then spent 2 1/2 days trying to get a refund for the purchase, much of that with AI bots who weren’t equipped to help and even worse the inability to talk to a real person. I hope for your sake that your phone can get it’s “estimating” done soon!
That’s the worst. Talking to chat bots that can’t help! I did some of that over the ID issue and phone purchase. Also, we have a big issue over roof damage due to solar installation and Costco has no email or bots for help.
This is the most tiresome part of the technology.
It is tiresome. Good word for it.
It really gives me the extreme stress when I need to set up a new device.
I agree. I feel apprehension facing the task.
When kids were younger, they would gladly take up the task. Now they all are busy so I am not planning to change any devices anytime soon.
It’s turned out to be a bigger job than I imagined. I’ve been logged out of every app I use, including WordPress.
Oh no. Can you take it to the Apple Store and tell them to do it.
No, I’m doing it bit by bit as needed. I didn’t want to go to the Apple store because it’s 45 minutes away.
Best of luck my friend. I hope it gets sorted out soon. 😍😍😍
I’m making progress!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I’ve never had trouble with he’s cell phones, but then I usually boy them in person so someone else does the initial set up. What I dread is new televisions and having to program them. Ugh.
We live far enough out of town it seemed to make sense to have phones delivered. When we lived downtown Palm Springs, I’d go in person.
How frustrating. It’s easy to become very reliant on cell phones these days. For instance, we often need them for “Two-Factor Authentication,” which is supposed to make our accounts more secure. Yeah, if you lose your cell phone, your account will be so secure you won’t even be able to access it.
So true! I spent several hours after my new phone finally loaded — trying to get into various apps and accounts.
It’s hard to like this post. I’m sad for the frustration you must feel. I rely on tech, but I also see it as my nemesis. Complication!
I long for the days when we didn’t rely on tech!
I’m not going to jinx myself….all snafus of my own making
👍🏼
That’s a frustrating loop! I hope you find your way out, Elizabeth!
Today is a new day. All that frustration is behind me! 😊
Customer service. Hang in there. Ha, ha.
I’m beginning to think customer service no longer exists!
It really does seem hit or miss. I can give you ten places I know that stink for customer service. It’s hard for me to think of one place that has great customer service. That’s kind of sad.
It is sad. There used to be places that were known for excellent customer service. I’m not sure that’s true anymore.
The other day, Facebook logged me out. They said someone was trying to log into my account. Anyhow, I was logged out of Facebook. I kept trying to get back in… similar to your situation… it seemed I was in some look of theirs. I FINALLY got in, re-set my password… but then could not tell if someone had actually logged into my account or Facebook just did this exercise to make me re-set my password. This must have taken 3 hours when all was said and done. I feel for you.
I have needed to relog into everything. When I set up my husband’s new phone, all his log ins were set. None of mine were!
That’s strange, usually those care over in the transfer to the new phone. Well, technology is “as it is,” right!
I know. I don’t get it. But I’m getting back into my apps one by one.
Ah, don’t you just love it? My online experiences seem to be declining, maybe it’s me? I’m getting older?
Yes, I agree. My online experiences are less, too.
This is definitely a pulling-my-hair-out post! I hope it resolves soon for you! I’ve had FB issues but I stepped away because I don’t like FB at all. And I’ve had tech issues on WP, and on sites while trying to format my Copper book. I’m burned out, but the book is important to me, so I’m persevering. 🙂 Good luck!
I rarely use FB, but being logged out I wanted to get back logged in. The first post I saw was a wedding picture from a girl who played with my kids when they were in grade school. The comments said something like “I’m sure your mom is smiling down on you.” That was a friend of mine, who I lost track of. Really sad. Good luck with your book and your tech headaches!
Oh my goodness. The amount of patience it takes to do the smallest things is mind blowing. I hope you finally were verified and two phones are now working?
We were trying to cancel our Comcast Internet at the old house this week and you’d thought we were trying to cancel the internet to the entire planet….still haven’t gotten that taken care of. I believe they want to add accounts, but never delete accounts.
Isn’t it crazy how small tasks take up so much time? Yes, our phones are now working and I love the new camera on the phone. Haven’t gotten good at swiping yet. My old phone had the home button, even though it was fairly new. Good luck on Comcast.
