The Day After

We had a week of clouds and rain — as photographed in Friday’s post.

Sunday morning, I woke up to sunshine and singing birds. I moved my coffee and notebook outside our bedroom to write my three pages. I began following Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way” more than 10 years ago. Part of her process to inspire creativity is journaling three pages every morning. I’ve done it faithfully, only missing a handful of days.

Sunday night was the fundraiser I’ve been working on since December. While I’m writing this post a few hours before having to get dressed up — complete with make up that I don’t wear except for special occasions — I’m looking forward to it being over! I’ll have quiet time to enjoy my walks, backyard and sitting out reading by the pool. I’ll be able to breathe. I can’t wait!

What are you looking forward to?

  1. I hope all went well with the fundraiser EA, but I can empathize how good it must feel to know it’s done and life can return to a more normal pattern. I find I like my routines quite a lot!

    • I woke up today so relieved. It was a success and I’m happy to get back my normal life. Also, our board voted not to hold a major event next year. We are too small of a group to do it without too much of a burden on a few people.

      • Definitely. We need to focus on growth to survive. We have 30 members down from 200 prior to COVID. They quit meeting for a few years, the membership aged into a majority of women in their 80s. I’m one of the youngest members.

  2. So pretty! I’m sure I could be encouraged to start doing Morning Pages again if I was looking at this view. As for what I’m looking forward to: a professional spring clean-up to our property so that all the dead bushes and leaves and fallen twigs will be gone. I want pretty and am willing to spend a pretty penny to get it.

    • Thanks! I have to do my morning pages to feel grounded each day. What a great idea to have your property Spring cleaned. We got rid of all the dead plants in the wild space between the fence and the wall. The whole neighborhood had to because we’re in a fire zone. It’s not so much about looks, but safety.

    • Thanks! Last night was our event and it was a success. Everything went according to plan, the food was delicious, people were happy and spent money on our fine dining raffle and silent auction. I won two $200 certificates to restaurants I like! Now I’m exhausted and will try to take it easy for a few days. But we have houseguests for a week!

    • After working on this fundraiser since December and being too busy with it in January and March, I was ready for it to be over. It has been so beautiful in the mornings in our backyard to have my coffee and listen to the birds. It’s been months since it’s been warm enough to enjoy that.

  3. What a lovely spot to do morning pages! I have a nice morning view, too, but indoors except mid-summer. I’m not quite as diligent about my morning pages, but I’ve come to like the routine.
Glad to hear your event went so well.
I’m looking forward to some Zoom calls with dear friends this week who live too far for visiting in person most of the time.

    • The past two days, I sat outside for morning pages. Such a treat after a cold winter. I’m glad the event worked out. Two weeks ago we had a little over 30 RSVPs and we needed 70 to break even! Stressful last few weeks, but we exceeded the 70. We should have a healthy profit to donate to the residential facility for sex-trafficked victims because of our silent auction, dining raffle and other things that people spent money on.

  4. I followed you but am not getting post notifications, I tried again. Your backyard is beautiful! I wish I had a pool. 😎❤️

    • Thank you. The event went smoothly. Today I should find out if it was successful financially. It’s so nice to sit outside in the mornings looking over the pool and listening to the birds.

  5. I hope your fundraiser went really well! I’m with you, I love to dress up once in a while but I favor my time alone, in the back yard, enjoying the silence and my thoughts. I love that you do the morning pages. That’s such a beautiful and inspiring practice. Hugs, C

    • Morning pages start my day feeling grounded. I get rid of any worries or lists of to dos off my brain. We feel the same way about getting dressed up. Once in awhile is fun. Every day would not be!
