Wednesday morning on our walk before sunrise was stunning!
“As long as autumn lasts, I shall not have hands, canvas and colors enough to paint the beautiful things I see.” — Vincent Van Gogh
Now that our beach days are behind us, we’re back to desert life. We’re walking before sunrise to avoid the heat. But the past few days, the weather has cooled down. It’s been in the low 60s during our walks! Maybe we don’t have to leave quite so early.
On the other hand, it’s a gorgeous time to be outside. The first thing I saw was a wily coyote dashing across the street. Then I noticed the moon high in the sky with balloons rising in cool air.

This guy has been a frequent visitor to our backyard. We’ve got both Roadrunner and Wily Coyote.

Finally, the sun peeked over the horizon.
What is your favorite time to walk? What sights do you see?

What beautiful photos! Golden hour is my favorite time to walk. I was doing sunrise treks over the summer too, but it’s gotten too cool here, for my liking, to do that now. So a sunset walk is my perfect time- I do have to stay close, though, once the sun goes down, it gets dark quickly and I don’t like to walk alone after dark. Is it called golden hour when the sun comes up too? The sunrise sheds such a pretty light! Maybe a tad pinker than golden?
Thank you! Yes, it’s a beautiful time of day at sunrise and sunset. I’m thinking about adding a small walk in the golden hour, too. Finally the weather makes it possible.
I think that I will always enjoy walking in the early morning the most. It’s not so much about what I will or won’t see but about starting my day in a way that makes me happy and leaves me feeling good.
Yes. I totally agree with you. I also feel that I have more energy in the morning and gravity hasn’t taken it’s toll. Evenings and afternoons take more effort.
A brisk morning walk is the best. Balloons are always an exhilarating sight. I would add the hues of the morning as they cross the mtn range. The evening is all about the sunsetting on the clouds.
Yes, I love watching the balloons. And the evening sunsets.
The Van Gogh quote is brilliant. I most enjoy walks at sunrise and sunset, but when the weather is nice I go out for walks whenever I can get away.
Yes! The weather is perfect now for walking.
Wow wow wow! That’s a lot of color and character, Elizabeth! Thank you for sharing your desert beauty!
Thank you! It was a gorgeous morning.
The views are so amazing Elizabeth. Thanks for sharing
Thanks. It was a beautiful morning!
You’re most welcome 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

How’s Olive?
She seems fine. Active, eating, happy but constipated again. It is an issue. Thank you for asking. I’m worried.
I hope she gets better soon.
I love warm – not hot – summer and early-fall evenings (I’m too late of a riser to see many sunrises). The sunsets have now moved south enough so I can watch them from our deck. This is such a fabulous time of year.
I love warm not hot, too. I’ve spent the last forty years in hot!
I remember my first year of college I didn’t need an alarm clock because my window faced east.
Our bedroom faces east as well. I do get to see the most amazing sunrises.
Fabulous photos!
Thank you! It was a fabulous morning.
Beautiful photos, Elizabeth! So glad to hear the weather’s cooled off a bit. Enjoy your walks and keep the pics coming! 🥰
Thanks! It has been perfect weather. Today I walked at the decent hour of 7 a.m. instead of 5:30 am.! Yay!
That’s awesome!!! 🥰☀️🥰
😅
My favorite time to walk in nature is early afternoons. I feel the peppiest then and see more of my surroundings because of it. As for what I see, usually the plants and flowers and trees. Plus many dogs.
I tend to lose energy in the afternoons, plus the weather here can be too hot.
There are lots of people walking dogs in my neighborhood park, but they tend to be the early birds getting in the walk before they have to go to work.
I’ve only been to Arizona once but loved it. I really wanted to see a roadrunner but we were in Sedona and I’m told they’re not common there.
🥺
We moved to Arizona in 2020 from Palm Springs. We had more roadrunners in Palm Springs than here, but this one seems to be hanging out more and more.
My favorite time to walk is when there is enough light to see but the sun hasn’t had time to warm us up too much. Of course, when I lived in Vietnam for a couple of years, that was a very narrow window of opportunity.
Yes. I agree with that. We have lived in the desert for the past 30 plus years. First Palm Springs and then Scottsdale. So heat is an issue.
