I find a lot of happiness and excitement in little things. Our lives are made of small moments strung together and if we spend too much time worrying or focusing on the past or future, we miss the little bits of joy in the present.
Here’s a list of moments that make me truly happy:
Hearing the birds sing early in the morning.
My kids calling just to talk. They aren’t asking for anything and there’s nothing big going on.
Having lunch yesterday with a good friend and spending a few hours catching up with our lives.
Noticing that my husband got his dish off the table, into the sink and miracle of miracles—into the dishwasher.
Watching baby quail in our backyard.
Seeing a bob cat on my outdoor camera.
Olive the cat honoring me with her presence and stretching out for a cat nap while I’m laying on my side. I have to be careful not to move, so she doesn’t fall off.
Sitting in by back yard reading a really good book.
Walking with my husband and marveling at the beauty surrounding us on a weekend morning.
Checking things off my to-do list and feeling productive.
What little things in your life make your day?
We had a visitor last night.

Fascinating. What do you suppose are those mysterious white streaks that are zipping around? Lightening bugs? Fairies? Devas? Nature spirits? Clearly, they are not intimidated by the bobcat! Love your list of “little things.” Thanks for showing us life through your eyes.
Thanks. I’m so fascinated by the bobcat. I think the white streaks are ordinary moths. Wouldn’t that be something if they were fairies!
I love the list of “little things”, too! I already have My Favorite Things in Julie Andrews’ voice humming in my head, you know “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.” It was my favorite song from the show 🙂
I love that song too! I was thinking about linking the song to my post, but the bobcat video took precedence.
Reading my friend’s blogs in the morning as I drink my coffee is something that gives me joy 😀.
That’s so sweet 😊
I was puttering around inside yesterday after my walk and spotted activity outside on the lawn. Lots of newish sparrow babies out with their parents learning how to find food. Some were very interested in discovering how to find their own seeds but a few just sat, chirping and waiting for a parent to feed them. Cute little fluff balls! Then I got good news regarding my SS journey and a great update on my investments from my financial planner. I was smiling a lot yesterday 🙂
I spend so much time observing birds. I discovered two nests with babies. Mourning doves and Gila woodpeckers. Yay for your good news!
I love this beautiful list and reminder that the “little” things really are the big things. Add this post to the list of things that make us happy!
Thank you, Wynne! It is the little things and being present in the moment that counts.
Right! <3

I love this post. This brings me joy. I enjoy reading about what brings others joy. I also love when my adult daughter calls just to talk. It’s one of my most-favorite things. ❤️
Thank you! Yes, I love it when my kids call to talk.
Life – surviving another day cancer free. When that trauma comes to your door, you immediately begin to appreciate the small things like never before.
I am sure. I’m glad you are cancer free. My daughter-in-law was diagnosed with cancer in August. She’s had surgery and six months of chemo. So far she is cancer free.
Your bobcat has a new home. I hope you are careful, I don’t know if they would be lounging, you go outside and they attack? I would be concerned about that.
When we bought our house the bobcat was disclosed by the previous owners. We had a home inspection and they found bones on the roof — leftovers from the bobcat. I did come face to face with a bobcat on the trash bin. We both ran away!
Well, hopefully, you live in harmony. Just be mindful that the bobcat is a wild animal. https://youtu.be/d8kRiqTfe18?feature=shared
Wow. That’s a scary video. All but the garbage bin sighting, I’m looking through the window at the bobcat. I’m more afraid of javelina and coyotes that I see out on walks.
Ok, be safe.

I love your list! I’m such a predictable girl…I love checking things off, feeling productive. (And the bobcat! Whoa!) 🥰
Yes, I like making a daily list and crossing off the items with red ink. That makes me smile! I love checking my outdoor camera in the mornings to see who stopped by. That was at 10 p.m. Usually the bobcat comes by in the wee hours.
Love it! The suspense waiting to see who’s gonna arrive…I need popcorn! 😜

A good book, a good recipe, a good workday, someone who remembers me from forever, a trip away, a moment shared with my husband, a call from my brother, a clean house, making progress on my writing, the pug, both. Thanks for asking!
All good things to enjoy life!
What a shot of the bob cat. It’s interesting that the previous owner told you about the bob cat, would that push potential buyers away or bring them in? Ha, ha, I’m not sure which. I know enough about animals to know that he’s probably scared of you as much as you might be scared of him. And then I love this comment: “My kids calling just to talk. They aren’t asking for anything and there’s nothing big going on.” That is the absolute best thing in the entire world!!!!!! I never get tired of those kind of calls, make me feel warm inside like I’ve done a good job as a parent. Good for you!
As for the bobcat, we didn’t find out about it until we agreed to buy the house. We tried getting some wildlife department to trap it but learned that the bobcats have large territories of miles and miles and they’d be back. I was worried about my cat, but was told by the realtor to never let her outside. I’m waiting for a phone call today. I usually hear from one of them. You are a great parent, too! Thanks for the kind comments.
Kind of neat that you get to see the Bob cat up close. It reminds me of the foxes we sometimes see — more scared of us than anything.
I agree bobcats are scared of us, too. The outside of our sliding door and all windows have a reflective coating, so the bobcat can’t see us. If we didn’t have it, the bobcat would have run away seeing us stare at him.
I’m a person who likes her beverages, so my answer is coffee in the morning, tea at lunch, and wine at dinner. I’m a simple woman…
That sounds ideal. I like hot lemon water before my walk and then coffee afterwards while I journal.
So much to be grateful for… little things and big things. I think seeing a beautiful bobcat on your patio is a huge and wonderful thing. What a gorgeous creature!
Yes, it’s so special to see the bobcat. Once I saw her with two kittens on our lounge chair! I wasn’t quick enough with the camera. Also a couple weeks ago, she was on our mat outside the front door. I agree. There is so much to be grateful for.
I love your truly happy moments Elizabeth. Some of mine are similar. I do love our coffee time in the morning, it’s quiet, we talk a little, I write. Bliss. Hugs, C
That sounds perfect! Nice mornings.
