This is the Rueben from our favorite Sherman’s Deli in Palm Springs.
For Father’s Day, I wanted to treat my husband to a nice breakfast or lunch. We heard about a Jewish Deli that we hadn’t tried yet. We were told it was pretty good.
Well, what a disappointment. It was nothing like what we’re used to. My husband had a breakfast burrito that he took two bites of and left it. I had a Rueben and potato salad. The sandwich was okay. But they didn’t grill the bread and the corned beef was tough. I took it home and doctored it up. The potato salad was inedible.
There’s always a line at Sherman’s. But not for us. We’d be spotted and whisked to a table by the manager. That was the advantage of being a local in a tourist town.
We haven’t found fabulous food in Arizona, which is why we hardly ever go out. It’s always a let down. I should take that back and say there are a few places I like, but they are a trek from our house.
The good news is we’re visiting a friend in New York and I can probably get my fill of fabulous food. I’m also hoping to meet LA from Waking Up On the Wrong Side of 50 in person.
What is your favorite food to go out for?

Oh bummer on the food! It’s always a letdown when you’re expecting one thing and instead get something else. Keep looking!
I think we get used to certain styles and flavors. Then we’re disappointed if it’s different.
We love Sherman’s when we’re in Palm Springs! It’s fabulous but we have to wait in line! You are going to love LA, we get together every time I’m in NY. She’s amazing. Hugs, C
Ha! For waiting in line 😅 We’re headed to CT right now for the weekend. I can’t wait to meet LA Monday or Tuesday.
Oh, what a bummer to try a new restaurant and have it not pan out. How fun that you are going to New York!
Yes! We are visiting a friend who has our week all planned out for including art shows, the weekend in Connecticut and lunches and dinners out. I’m hoping for time to see LA Monday or Tuesday, too.
I’m so excited that you and LA are going to meet up!
I’m so sorry about the deli. I bet NYC deli’s will not disappoint.
Exactly! It’s exciting to meet blogger friends in person. It seems like I already know them so well.
Yes! I love that.
Oh my goodness! I hope you have a blast! Enjoy, enjoy! 🥰
We are with the hostest with the mostest. She’s planned out our entire trip in NYC and in Connecticut. Tomorrow we go sightseeing in CT and to an art show.
I love it! LA’s post today was chock full of fun things to do in NYC. Yay! Do all the fun stuff you can! 🥰❤️🥰
There’s a such a contrast from the business of Manhattan to our friend’s home in the woods in CT. And all so different than Arizona!
Gosh, yes! And what a great change of scenery. So good! 🥰

I know how you feel about a disappointing meal at a restaurant. It happens, but I’m sure you’ll find a good deli in NYC. Say “hi” to LA for me, you kids play nice now.
I have had excellent food for every meal on this trip. It’s amazing. You crack me up about playing nice 😁 We’ll do our best!
I wrote this past blog about being away for 3 days as our home was tented for flying termites. We made it a vacation and stayed at a hotel, old time Florida style I have been wanting to visit forever in Sebring, Fl. It was nice. I was forever looking for good delis as my go to and the husband likes diners. We found a great diner! Good delis, we have one in downtown Tampa which is delicious. I spend a lot of time searching out places to visit. Enjoy NY.
That sounds like making a great getaway out of having your house tented. We ended up spending little time in NY and more time in CT. It’s was a great vacation.
We were in Sebring, an old Florida town enjoying the scenery and the quiet. It was good! Met some interesting people, great place to retire to in Florida. Small enough, and near to bigger cities like Tampa and Lakeland.
Sounds perfect!
I sure definitely am
