It was Waffles the Pug’s seventh birthday over the weekend. Since I’m in a low mood due to health issues in my family and I can’t focus, I decided photos of Waffles were in order to make me smile — and you, too. Who doesn’t like cute puppy pictures?
Seven years ago we got Waffles as a Christmas present for our daughter. Waffles became an unofficial mascot for her Utah swim team and they allowed him to come to swim practice. The sports marketing team posed him for social media posts. He’s been a joy to everyone, especially my daughter.
Waffles is a love bug, but does have one annoying habit. He puts whatever he can into his mouth. He’s uncontrollable like a two-year-old. Consequently, he’s given us plenty of scares. Once he found an adderall on the floor at a friend of my daughter’s. That was a night in the ER. Then he ate poisonous berries in our backyard. Trip to ER. The worst though was when he swallowed a piece of wood that got lodged in his small intestine. Surgery. Good thing my daughter has dog insurance!
Through all the fun and the drama, I can’t figure out where seven years disappeared.

I read that naming pets after food is a trend in 2023. I guess my daughter was ahead of her time?
Both puppies and kittens are totally swoon-worthy in my book. 😍 Waffles looks like such a sweet little guy!
That’s so interesting that food names for pets is trending! My good friend has a ~10-year-old cat named Waffles. It’s such a goofy name, but somehow so appropriate.

They are. I love kittens because they are easier to take care of! Waffles was a full time job!

Love Waffles…what a cutie. And I agree — the trendy stuff about naming pets after food/drink — it’s a thing! One of our daughter’s new kittens is named “Macchi”…a shortened version of “Macchiato.” Silly, silly. Thank you for sharing the pics with us on this Monday morning. I worked with someone who had two pugs. I was hysterical every time I saw them and their antics with their smushy faces! So sorry that health news is still concerned. I will be thinking good thoughts EA!
Thank you Deb. We only had big dogs in our family before Waffles. He is hysterically funny with his constant frown. We are waiting for more details on the family health matter. I’ll post at a later date to not infringe on privacy.

That’s a tough question. But I once heard an answer to the question of who’s more intelligent, cats or dogs, and the answer was that we domesticated dogs whereas cats domesticated us 😀

I have a friend with a Cat named Waffles. I might prefer having Cats but I love all Baby Animal pictures.

I read that naming pets after food is a trend in 2023. Waffles is a wonderful name and your daughter was a visionary [or very hungry] when she named Waffles. I knew a couple years ago who named their dog Noodles, which was a perfect name for him. I like pets with food names, I guess.
Kittens and puppies are so adorable but kittens are easier to take care of. The food names are cute, too. I like the name Noodles, too.
