My last year’s project.
I wrote 50,000 words last November in honor of NaNoWriMo. The Playgroup is a novel based on my experiences as a young mother in Palm Springs, Calif. It’s a story about testing friendships and how one person changed the quiet lives of the moms’ group.
I wrote 2,000 to 3,000 words each day and made it to my goal by Thanksgiving.
But then, I lost the manuscript. I was waiting until the new year to begin the process of editing and revising, but I blew it. I never backed it up and my laptop was erroneously deleting files. I lost my community newsletter and The Playgroup rough draft.
UGH!
I thought I had set up automatic backups to icloud — but I didn’t. Now I manually back up to a thumb drive each day.
I began rewriting the manuscript and it’s taken on a new life. My biggest change was the point of view. It was written from one character but I expanded it to the POV of four moms. I’m at about 25,000 words now, so my NaNoWriMo month will be half the words I wrote last year.
I’m currently flying to Seattle for the week to visit my mom, so I don’t think I’ll get to writing until I return home. Not an awesome start to the month, but I’ll be back!
Have you taken on a writing challenge? What is it and how did it go for you?
Iโm glad you are rewriting it. Hope you can get it published. All the best my friend
Thank you! I have an idea I think works, but much rewriting and revising ahead.

Glad you are rewriting – looking forward to hearing more about your novel, the POV of 4 moms sounds interesting ๐
Thank you! Yes, I think NaNoWriMo will be the challenge I need to get the rewrite done. I’ve been working a bit on it and then putting it to the side. I think the focus this month will be good .
You’ve done a great job resurrecting the original after that loss! I’ve done a few of those daily prompt writing challenges and really don’t like them. It always feels too forced. NaNoWriMo would not be for me.
It was a fun challenge last year. I don’t think I’d do it again except I felt it would push me to finish the rewrite of the lost manuscript.
You are inspiring me! I have an old manuscript in the cloud and I’m thinking about taking that out and dusting it off! Let’s keep each other inspired! Maybe when we’re ready we can beta read each other’s work? Something to consider. Hugs, C
You totally should! I would love to be your beta reader!
I have not exactly quit but due to health reasons, I am going to slow down. I did write over 1,000 words, yesterday and I also will be gone for a few.
I’m gone for a week, which isn’t great start. But I’ve already written 24,000 words, so I think I can make it to 50,000 this month.
I’m glad you are writing it again. I should go back to trying to write about my life in jail.
You should!
Your novel sounds intriguing, glad you are rewriting it. Sorry you lost it, but glad you aren’t giving up!! Good luck to you. It is definitely a challenge writing something that long, but rewarding. I proved to myself I could do it. Now to find a publisher that believes in it, that’s a Challenge as well!
Finding a publisher is a challenge, I’ll agree. Good luck! Thanks for your words of encouragment.
Thanks and you are very welcome! ๐งก

Good luck!
Thank you!
I look forward to hearing of your successful rewrite!
I hope it’s successful! Thanks for your encouragement.
I set to blog every dayโฆ
I donโt know how you do it seven days a week. Iโm impressed. I need two days off.
Well, sundays are pictorial for the most part, and Saturday is a quick note of gratitude, so they easy.
