We had a lovely visit with our daughter. We packed in as much as we could during her short trip. I especially loved our visit to the Desert Botanical Garden to show her the Chihuly Installation. Because it’s more than one hundred degrees outside, we opted to go for the last hour it’s open — from 7 to 8 p.m. It was gorgeous.
I’m so glad we became members because we are learning so much about desert plants like the many species of cacti, aloe and agave. There’s a butterfly garden, wildflower garden, bee garden and my favorite — a shade garden.
Tomorrow our son comes to visit. It’s wonderful to spend time with our kids, even if their trips are short! Just having them under our roof and hanging out together is blissful.
Here are a few pictures from the botanical garden:

What are your favorite things to do when your kids or friends and family visit?
I love these pictures, especially the purple Chihuly.
Enjoy your time with your children. 🙂
The purple one is definitely my favorite one. I didn’t realize how much I was missing my kids until they come to visit.
Beautiful – do they make the Chihuly installations locally? I haven’t seen these before.
I’m pretty sure Chihuly comes from the Seattle area. But I don’t know for sure. I have a friend who owns a company that is authorized to set up, take down and clean Chihuly glass. I’ll have to ask him.
It’s the best when the kids come to visit! Love all the beautiful pics makes me feel as if I’m there with you! Hugs, C
It’s wonderful indeed. I was happy that my daughter finally enjoyed the new house. The kids were so upset when we sold the downtown Palm Springs home where they grew up. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos.
These sculptures are so pretty and go beautifully with the desert plants. Thanks for sharing your pictures!
Thank you! The combination of the desert with the glass sculptures is so amazing.
You know I’m a huge fan of botanic gardens
Absolutely!
I’m sort of homeless at the moment and living in one of my kids’ homes where I am doing my best to stay out of their way until my new home is available in a month. My other daughter will be moving to Tucson where I got to visit some old friends on my relo road trip. That short visit gave me a new appreciation for and interest in the surrounding desert. I have seen several Chihuly installations and had begun to feel that “if you have seen one you have seen them all.” Your photos moved me away from that a bit so thanks for that.
I was familiar with Chihuly going to the UW in Seattle. One of my college roommates married a man whose hobby was blowing glass. He turned it into a career. They’ve made me more in tune or fascinated with glass.
