This past weekend we took two couples out to dinner. They are friends as well as clients. I looked at the restaurant’s website to view the menu before we left. I always do that so I don’t take forever deciding what to order.
I was shocked! Prices have gone up since we last went out!!!
This restaurant is nice and known for their delicious food and impeccable service. It’s expensive but not ridiculously so — until now.
My favorite dish is their Dover Sole. Last time I was there, it was in the mid $30s. This past weekend I about lost it when I saw the hefty price tag of $55! I thought, I’ll skip an entree and go with the shrimp cocktail appetizer instead. Nope. $47!
I told my husband we needed to take out a loan to take a party of six out to dinner! Maybe get a HELOC. He said he’d ask his boss for the company credit card.
We were pleasantly surprised when both couples decided to split their entrees with their spouses. We did the same. Also, nobody ordered wine or drinks, but stuck to plain old tap water. Whew! I wonder if they were as shocked at the prices as us? Or, they felt sorry for us. In any case, what decent, kind people.
Also, I talked my husband into splitting the sole with me, so all was good!

Gas is ridiculous. I have one of the smallest cars ever! (Smart Car) $20. should get me a lot more than 2 Gallons.
I think twice before driving anywhere. I question whether or not I really need to go.

Definitely not worth it anymore. I enjoy cooking, so I don’t mind staying home to eat, except groceries are expensive, too.
I love to go out to eat and not a huge fan of cooking for myself so I miss it, but I’m glad you enjoy cooking so it’s not too painful…

One of Cupcakes bloggers sent a copy of a menu to a place they recently dined at…an upscale hamburger joint in NYC. The cost of a hamburger? $47.00. Yup. Not a misprint. Forty Seven freaking dollars for a hamburger. We have this meat market here we frequent that sells meats at wholesale prices. They cut their own meats from whole cows on site. We used to pay $7.99 for 5 lbs of 80/20 ground beef. Been using it for years with no problem. I needed to restock the freezer again, and knowing the cost of beef has skyrocketed since I last visited, I was expecting a sticker shock. Nope. It went up to $9.99, Way within reasonable expectations. So why is the local grocery store charging $9.99 per pound?
That’s insane! Why would anyone pay $47 for a burger. I like you meat market. I wish I had one here.
Prices have certainly gone up. I know there are lots of reasons why and I’m not sure that they will ever come back down again, although we can hope. Side note, one of the advertisements on your page was for one of MY exploding boxes on Etsy! I took a screen shot because at first I didn’t believe it but then I clicked on it and it went to my shop! That was pretty exciting. I’m not sure if you see the same ads or if they change as you go in and out of the site but still kinda cool!

Everything is expensive, from appliances (our dryer recently went out), to food, and gas! In California we have the added bonus of expensive water bills! Drought is right! It seems everything is in a long period of abnormal shortages! This might only be the beginning…Hugs, C
I feel like I’m making a car payment when I go grocery shopping! I’m sorry about your drought. It seems like AZ is very good with water management. Our water bill is less than half what it was in PS.
Here in Florida I am surprised we even have to pay for the stuff. Shit is everywhere. We have rain storms that can replenish Central Africa in one fell swoop.
