We haven’t been out hiking for months in the preserve by our house because of the summer heat. Finally, the weather is breaking and it felt wonderful to be out in nature at the gorgeous McDowell Sonoran Preserve once again.
We have a house guest, my sister-in-law, and it’s fun to show off our new town to her. She loved the hike, too and took some great photos of our desert life. I’m looking at things through her eyes and it’s inspiring to me.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again
Happy trails to you, keep smilin’ until then
Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather

When you have a guest, what are some of the things you like to share or explore?
That right there is Colonel No-shoulders territory.
I haven’t heard that term before. Can you explain it to me?
Snakes. In the military we called them either “Jake the Snake” or Colonel No-shoulders, ’cause they got none.
OH! Thankfully I didn’t see any. The only snake I’ve seen was squished on the road in our neighborhood.
They are out there. Only a matter of time. Horses sense them first.
Yikes. I hope I don’t see them.
Love the chart! Very helpful 😊 Thank you!
I’m glad you like it!
Love the Sonoran Desert (lived in Tucson for grad school+) thus love this post. Fun shot of the Gambel’s quail!
I’m enjoying it! Quite a change from SoCal, Seattle and Snohomish.
Great pictures!! Hmmm…totally depends on guest. My friend? Broadway and the Whitney. My goddaughter? Comedy club and central park
You have plenty of choices and a variety of things to do!
I enjoy the scenery on your walks! Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
I also love those cookies. I wish you could share those with us too. 🙂
When we have visitors, we normally take them to either Chicago or Milwaukee because we live equidistant from both.
Thanks! The cookies are cream cheese, sugar and flour. Delicious. You have two big cities to share.
You had me at cream cheese. 🙂
