I took quite a few photos of Red this week. He was a frequent visitor. I had two close encounters with him that were special moments. Both times I could hear him loudly chirping away. When he does that I believe he is calling me to fill the bird feeder.
I walked outside to the feeder with birdseed and called out, “Hey, Red,” as I always do when he’s chirping at me. I couldn’t see him but then he flew straight to me from the neighbor’s yard. He landed in a bush next to the bird feeder a couple feet away from me.

Red has landed in this planter a few days in a row. I’m wondering if there are some natural seeds or things to eat in it. In any case, it makes a pretty picture.

This is kind of a strange photo. Red swooped down to the birdseed block to take a bite of goodies while still flying!
The other close encounter with Red was I saw him blast off like a rocket flying over our fence to the wash behind us. I called, “Hey, Red!” He made a U-turn in the air and flew back to where I was standing. Once again he landed in the bush by the bird feeder.
It felt really special to have my friendly Red com to me when I called him. Or, maybe he just likes me for my birdseed.

Red on a barrel cactus.
Happy Friday!
Which Red photo do you like the best?
What are your weekend plans?

I love that Red knows you and is calm with you, even if it’s because you are his grocery store 😉 Last day of school for the grands today, SIL is doing some plumbing fixes (hopefully) and we are in storm season with CO thunderstorms rolling in each afternoon. I’ll be grocery shopping.
It seems other worldly that I can call Red to come to me. I’m enjoying this so much. Your grands must be so excited for the last day of school. I remember that being so exciting. Be safe in your thunderstorms. Maybe go shopping early?
On my way to the store now! Things are mostly okay until late afternoon usually.
Good idea to go early!
We use safflower and then we put red cayenne pepper to keep away the squirrels. The birds love the mix and the crows have disappeared. The rains in the afternoon give us about an inch of rain and filled up the bird path yet the crows have decided to congregate somewhere else! Yay! They were bullies to the other birds like the cardinals. Nature takes care of things, often. I am staying close to the house. The pain from the hip disappeared with the cortisone shot but now I have pain in my back. My primary doc yesterday said they are related and should go away with my surgery. It was a good appointment!
I’m glad your troublesome crows have disappeared. Also it’s true that nature takes care of itself most of the time. That’s good news that you had a good doctor’s appointment. I hope your back feels better. I go for an x-ray on my ankle today. It’s a year ago I had all the hardware put in it after breaking my ankle.
Good luck! I know going to doc appointments is never fun. I am not sure how my husband is able to keep his sense of humor with all his appointments. I do have a new primary and I liked her very much, so that is a start. I am moving timidly today but staying close to the nest! Should be a good day for writing. Enjoy your weekend!
I’m going to an imaging place that is notorious for not having the doctor’s orders. I have had to sit around while they contact the doctor. I’m holding my breath that it’s all good today. My husband called for his post op baseline xray and they said they didn’t have the order so he couldn’t come in. Then he called the doctor and they said, “It’s ALWAYS them!” They had sent it in. The reason we go is it’s 20 minutes from our house versus an hour.
Oh, yeah, I think we all had a few experiences like that and mixed messages with doc orders and appointments. Yep!
It happens quite a bit!
So the imaging place didn’t have my order. I drove 20 minutes, sat for 20 minutes while they tried to figure it out and contact the doctor. Then I drove home. I’m trying again next week. The doctor’s office didn’t answer the phone.
I like him on the cactus. in my mind he’s saying should I be standing here, with the head tilt. my bestie is in for the weekend!! dead cover band. Morgan library. lots of food
I like the cactus and the planter photo. I like the contrast of the green with his bright red. It sounds like you’re going to have a fun weekend with your best friend.
💕💕
🥰
All excellent photos, Elizabeth! Red seemingly crashing on the feed block and on the barrel cactus are my favorites! It’s wonderful that you can call Red to come to you, he loves you and your feed! Have a great weekend. 🙏🏻😊
Thank you. That one in flight with Red doing a drive by to the feed block is bizarre, but interesting. Have a great weekend, too!
Love this! What amazing photos of Red, it’s hard to pick just one – there are so many great expressions – how lucky you are to be his friend!
The friendship we are developing is so amazing to me.
Red looks like the headless horseman at the block… he’s quick! My favorite is probable the profile on the planter with his little crest catching the sun. Hope you have a great weekend!
It does look like Red is headless! I like the planter one too. It’s so colorful. Have a great weekend too!
He’s a handsome boy. Love the pic of him on the cactus.
He is handsome! I remember earlier in the year there was an imposter Red. When I looked at the photos, I could tell it was the wrong bird. He had a mean face and damaged bill. Plus he was much thicker all around. I’m glad you like the cactus photo.
Maybe he knows his name. Try calling him, “Hey, blue!” and see if he responds.
How funny! I may give it a try!
What a beautiful relationship you have with Red – that’s so cool. And the pictures are stunning. Hope your husband’s recovery is going well!
It is amazing to me. This morning I saw a young cardinal with Red. My husband said he saw one with Mrs. yesterday evening. So exciting!
Goodness — a fun and full encounter with sweet Red. I love it! Is it just me or is his feathery (comb – is that what the feathers on his head are called?) look extra alert and spike-like. Made me smile. He looks like he’s at full attention – listening to you! 😊❤️😊
Thank you, Vicki! It’s called his crest. It still reminds of Kramer’s hair from Seinfeld. The exciting news is I spotted Red this morning with a juvenile for the first time. My husband said he saw Mrs. with one in the evening last night. We know we have our first Cardinal baby, maybe one or maybe two.
I finished your book and loved it! 💕 I’m thinking through my review. You had so many fascinating surprises.
Ohhhhh! Babies! Cardinal babies!!! And I just LOL’d when you crawled into my brain. Kramer — yes! We’ve started watching episodes starting with season one…just for fun and you nailed it! Kramer…if he was a cardinal.
And yay! So happy to hear you’ve finished Slivers. The book launch last night was great…felt the love from my blogging friends like you. If only everyone could’ve popped in to join us. xo! ❤️💝❤️
Congrats on your book launch. I can’t wait to see your photos from it! I almost named Red Kramer, but Red seemed to fit better. 💕💕
Love it…I’ll be sharing with Paul…he’ll get a major chuckle out of Red/Kramer, too! And yes – I’ll post pics hopefully on Sunday. It was a treat to have a photographer there so we didn’t need to do that work, but I haven’t received the pics yet. ❤️❤️❤️
That’s a great idea to have a photographer there. I’m sure you and your family had enough on your hands. I’ll check on Sunday to see if you’re gotten the photos. Thanks for sharing my photos with your husband.
Doing so now! 🤪❤️🤪
