What happens when I fill the bird feeder

I mentioned this in a comment to blogger Edward Ortiz and he said he’d like me to post a video of it in action. I finally got a quail to cooperate and jump in the feeder and kick the seed out. As you can see from the photo above the buddies were more than happy to show up for their part. I’ve got a busy week ahead with some long days. I hope I have the energy! I’m looking forward to Friday when our daughter visits from Berkeley!

What’s on your agenda for the week?

  1. We realized the other night that we are feeding deer from our front yard bird feeder. Drove up to the house about 8 pm and a group of 4 were munching away. We knew that deer cruised the neighborhood but not that we were giving them dinner! We just stood in the driveway and watched them keep eating 🙂

    • I would love to see deer like that. We used to have them munching on our jojoba bushes on the other side of the fence. I haven’t seen them for a while. Maybe they will be back in the spring.

  2. Sending love and good energy! Thought of you this morning when a pair of mourning doves arrived on our deck. We haven’t seen a pair in months and months…I wondered if they’d wintered around here or made a trip north a little too soon. I’m gonna get some sunflower seeds out for them today! 💝😉💝

  3. Great videos, Elizabeth! Quail make the cutest sounds. ❤️ I’d love to be able to feed seeds but those darn Rock Pigeons ruined that. I know you have the energy to get through the week, you can do it! 💪🏻👍🏻😎

  4. This is too funny! This reminds me of when my father-in-law tosses handfuls of birdseed from his window every morning and the birds swarm. Apparently, they’re recently started knocking on the window when he hasn’t woken up early enough. 😂 You’re smart to leave it to the feeder!

    • I used to throw birdseed on the ground, too. I would have a swarm of doves and quail It works better to keep it in bird feeders! I haven’t had any birds knocking on the window though!

  5. I often want to throw birdseed on the ground but we have this special recipe we use for keeping out the squirrels with some cayenne pepper mixed in. The birds come, but the squirrels don’t steal the food. Sometimes I am tempted to throw sunflower seeds just to see but mostly the squirrels will feel invited.

  6. Awesome! Thank you so much for the video. I was dying to see the quail in action. It was great, and even better to see how the quail kicked some of the seeds out for the others. It was perfect.

  7. Aren’t the birds funny? I can almost hear them down there: “Hey, help out a fellow friend, could you?”
I’m so happy your daughter will be visiting! Is Waffles coming along?

    • She was going to bring Waffles, but it turns out Southwest went from free doggies in a soft case who fit under your seat to $200 for that privilege for where I stick my laptop or purse. She’s buying our second car and driving it back up to Berkeley. She’s staying in our old home town on the road trip where she was born and raised until college. The hotel wants $150 for Waffles. Waffles won’t be coming 🙁 She’s also not happy dad is making her buy the car! He’s giving her a huge discount. The car is a 2015 with less than 50,000 miles and it’s not like we don’t know the history of it! She tried two years carless but finally thinks she needs one again.
