I was engrossed Sunday as I wrote this watching Scottie Scheffler in the Waste Management Golf Tournament, which was played in our new hometown. We did make the mistake of driving near the tournament to go to out with neighbors. It’s a zoo and too much traffic! Remind me next year to stay home.
It doesn’t look like Scottie, the number one player in the world, is going to win this year. His first tournament win was several years ago here. But he came from at least seven behind to almost win. If he had more than one more hole to play, I think he could do it!
Scottie Scheffler earned his first PGA Tour victory at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open on February 13, 2022. He defeated Patrick Cantlay in a sudden-death playoff on the third extra hole at TPC Scottsdale.
He had several crazy shots including chipping in from a bunker and putting one in from off the green 72 yards away! I grew up playing golf, but ever since my ACL surgery and two surgeries this year, it’s been spotty for me playing. I was five years old in my first tournament where we ended up tied and it went into sudden death. I ended up in second place and that trophy I had stared at for a month didn’t go home with me! But mom and dad bought me a chocolate bar and I survived.
As I waited for my Seahawks with QB Sam Darnold to play in an hour, I snapped a few photos of my favorite duo: Red and Mrs.

They did a lot of posing for me. Red in the Bird Buddy and Mrs. on the cactus statue.
Did you watch the golf tournament of Super Bowl? Who were you rooting for?

Wow EA, 5 seems really young to be playing in a golf tournament! I think you won by getting that chocolate treat over the trophy however 🙂
We had the Olympics on in the morning, spent a lot of time discussing the end of Lindsey Vonn’s skiing career after her latest crash, happy to see CO athletes doing well like Breezy Johnson getting gold. I think it seemed pretty obvious early on that Seattle was going to win. NE couldn’t do much.
I feel so badly for Lindsey Vonn. I tore my ACL skiing, too and it’s never been the same. Of course she’s younger and in better shape. She’ll bounce back. Congrats to Breezy Johnson and to our Seahawks!
I watched the Olympics most of the day and the Super Bowl at night. No beautiful cardinals though…
😉
The cardinals were the highlight for me! Plus Seahawks!
I think Mrs Red is looking prettier today. A
Yes, she does look pretty!
😍😍😍
🥰
I don’t play golf but enjoy watching it on TV, football has never been interesting to me. It’s fun to see Mr. and Mrs. again! ❤️😊
The only football I like to watch is if I feel a connection. Like Sam Darnold’s story, plus players my daughter knew in college.
I don’t follow sports, but I have been out watching wildlife. We saw a young, beautiful great horned owl out in broad daylight, who presumably couldn’t catch a meal the night before. Also, a roadrunner and several cardinals… in different areas of the neighborhood, so I’m wondering if they’ve reproduced. Such fun!
That sounds so exciting to see all those gorgeous birds. Lucky you! I’m thrilled every day I see my cardinals.
Mike really enjoyed golfing when stationed in Hawaii. He was quite good. I tried it a few times in Florida but I think my patience level has improved with age. I would probably be okay now with it. That is an unusual bird feeder. I have always wondered at the tenacity of people who come to watch golfers play. We do have some beautiful courses in Florida. Just being outside is nice .
I remember your husband talking about his golf game while in Hawaii. I played in high school, but we didn’t have a women’s team. My friend and I who grew up golfing practiced with the guys, but we were not allowed to compete! The golf tournament here is wild and people are always getting kicked out.
Oh, wow. We have a few beautiful golf courses nearby. One is in a not so great area but the course is very popular and so well maintained. Near us is a golf course and orange grove, the homes are build around the golf course with lots of oak trees. We used to bike all around that area. Very relaxing. Sometimes I drive that way to see the trees and the homes.
I would think that Florida would have lots of beautiful golf courses. On the other side of the wall in our backyard is a golf course but it’s private. I see golf carts driving by. We have friends who live one mile from us at a development that has seven golf courses and seven clubhouses. It’s over the top, but they play every day. They said it’s a Disneyland for adults.
No to golf. I had the super bowl on, but watch is probably not the right word …but congrats!!
Scottie Scheffler is today’s Tiger. He’s very exciting to watch if you enjoy golf. I’m so happy for Sam Darnold.
Really happy for SD. Just kept at it great attitude
He’s got great parents and was raised to not give up, plus be humble.
👍👍
😊
My DIL’s sister played viola with Green Day at the Super Bowl. I just saw her instagram post. Wow!
Omg how awesome!!
She came out here four years ago to play for a headline act at the golf tournament. She stayed with us and gave a concert for our friends and neighbors in our backyard. It was awesome. I don’t remember who she was playing with then, because it was a popular band I’d never heard of! I just looked it up. It was called Kygo.
So cool!!
It was such a treat. Our neighbors were so thrilled, too.
I can imagine!!!
😊
Wow – you did have a sports day, Elizabeth! Love the shots of Red and the Mrs!
Yay for the Seahawks and Sam Darnold. I’m glad you enjoyed my Red and the Mrs. photos. I’m always excited to take their photos!
Ahhhh…THAT tournament….It was a fave for hubby Paul and his sister when she lived in the Phoenix area…despite the epic traffic. Love your bright spots on this gray winter day. Red and the Mrs. sure are “posers” — in the best way! 💝
That tournament has quite the reputation! That’s interesting that your husband and his sister attended. My DIL’s sister played viola there with a pop band in 2022. I had no idea that there are concerts after the golfing is over for the day. Yesterday she played with Green Day at the Super Bowl! ☺️ I love the moments I glimpse Red and Mrs. and get some photos.
Wow!!! Playing with Green Day!!
Super cool! ❤️
Tell my favorite cardinals I said hello!
😘❤️😘
So exciting! Yes, I will say hi to Red and Mrs. for you 🥰
My kids gave me one of those bird cameras for Christmas this year and the entire family is having so much fun following the birds. We have a group channel for comments. Also, Larry and I just returned from your beloved Palm Springs for our annual ride! We love PS. I absolutely love your birds images. You are such a fabulous photographer. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, C
We’ve been back to Palm Springs more often lately. My dad was hospitalized at age 94 and finally decided that he can’t live alone. I did my daughterly duty, got dad into assisted living, got him a realtor and his house sold in two weeks! I hired movers, went through his entire house with him to decide what he wanted to take with him. It’s a relief to know he won’t be found unconscious alone in his house again!
I’m glad you had a nice trip to Palm Springs for the annual ride. It sounds more fun than my last trip there!
Also, I’m glad you got the Bird Buddy feeder. I’m enjoying having two in the backyard and seeing which birds prefer which feeder. My son works for a company in SF that brought it to life through campaigns to raise money and do fulfillment. My son says it was his most successful campaign, raising $11 million for it, plus his favorite because of the product and the guys from Yugoslavia who came up with the idea! You’ll have to post some of your photos.
I was looking forward to my photography workshop this month through June, but the professor was fired by email! It was by invitation only and I learned so much! There were only six students, so I think the college didn’t understand the value of it. One person had enrolled for 10 years. I was the newbie with one semester. Thank you for the kind words about my photography. I’m grateful for a professional photographer friend who has his bird photos in an El Paseo gallery who volunteered to work with me.
We spent the first month trying to out smart the squirrels who seem to enjoy eating our bird food. We finally figured out how to keep them out. A long pole and W-D40! I’m try and post some pics. How cool your son raised so much money! xxoo, C
Lovely!
Thanks! 😊
I love these photos that you are taking, and I think red is my favorite.
Red is my favorite too. He is so striking and loves to pose.
How sweet that a chocolate bar was enough to overcome the disappointment of not winning the trophy. Probably wouldn’t have worked for me.
I come from a family of golfers, but was never any good at it myself. Or any sport, really. I do keep my set of clubs for “someday.”
We don’t really watch sports, either, but we signed up for Peacock for a month to watch a bit of the winter Olympics. We enjoy the winter games, especially the skiing and skating.
I like skiing and skating, too. My dad took my brother and me golfing when we were really young. It always involved picking out a candy bar of our choice. I think that’s why we were excited to go. The tournament was only three holes and then we had to play two more. The chocolate helped.
